Cold War - Two
As each chapter goes on I love Araya more and more, she's so adorable.
Let's keep it rolling!

The group walked through a compartment. "So, why have you got a cattle prod on a submarine?" Clara questioned Grisenko.
"Polar bears." He answered.
"Where?" Araya yelped looking around in alert.
"No." Clara giggled. "None here, Araya."
"Oh." She replied. The Doctor chuckled and took the young girl's hand.
"We run across them when we're drilling," Grisenko explained to the brunette. Can be quite nasty, you know."
"I'd swap one for an Ice Warrior any day." Clara smiled.
"They're cuddlier." Araya beamed and looked at her father. "Not as cuddly as daddy though."
The Time Lord smirked picking his daughter up and then started tickling her. Her giggles filled the room as the rest of them walked. "That's enough torturing her sweetheart." The Stone said as Araya's laughter died down.
"Courage, my dear," Grisenko said to Clara who stared at the three Time Lords. How could they be so calm in the position they were currently in? "I always sing a song."
"What?"
"To keep my spirits up."
"Yeah, that would work, if this was Pinocchio."
"What's a Pinocchio?" Araya asked.
"You've never seen Pinocchio?"
"Who?"
The Doctor rubbed the back of his neck. "It isn't the first thing to come to mind with what to watch with our daughter." He nodded at the Stone.
"When we get back to the TARDIS I'll watch Pinocchio with you." Clara promised
"Yay!" Araya cheered, it died down when her father managed to open a compartment and set off some alarms.
"Do you know Hungry Like The Wolf?" Grisenko asked Clara.
"What?"
"Duran Duran. One of my favourites. Come on."
"I'm not singing a song."
The Doctor poked his head inside the hatch just as an echoing growl bounced around the compartment.
"What was that?" Clara asked.
"It sounded like a wolf." Araya whimpered moving closer to the Stone who took her hand. "But I know it wasn't."
"Pressure." The Doctor reminded crouching down to her. "Just pressure."
Clara crossed her arms across her chest. "Didn't sound like pressure."
"We're seven hundred metres down, remember?" He shot her a look and kissed Araya's hair.
"Don't worry about it." Grisenko smiled. "Think of something else."
"Like what?"
"You could revise the Gallifreyen I taught you earlier." The Stone whispered into her daughter's mind.
Grisenko then started to sing; "I am hungry like the wolf."
"I'm not singing." Clara protested.
"Don't you know it?"
"Course I know it." She sniffed. "We do it at karaoke, the odd hen night."
"Karaoke? Hen night?" He blinked. "You speak excellent Russian, my dear, but sometimes I don't understand a word you're talking about."
Araya giggled at that, even if she had never heard of the two either.

The Time Lords were in the compartment for a while longer until they heard a growl and screams of men. The Doctor darted through the sub, the Stone behind him with Araya on her back. The Doctor reached it first followed by Clara and Grisenko. "Stop!" The Doctor screamed in the Stone's mind, making her freeze.
"Doctor?"
"They're dead, torn to pieces." She swallowed.
"I'll wait here with Rae, she doesn't need to see that."
"Yeah, she doesn't."
"Where's daddy?" Araya asked, peering up at the Time Lady eagerly.
"Helping the people." She answered. "It's too dangerous for you so we're staying here."
×××
"Good God." Grisenko gasped. "Torn apart. It's a monster, a savage."
"No, Professor." The Doctor answered not seeing how pale Clara looked. "Not savage. Forensic. Well, he's dismantled them. Skaldak's learning. Learning all about you. Your strengths, your weaknesses. Come on." He turned away and saw the Stone around the corner. He tightly hugged her and Araya.
"Daddy?" Araya whispered seeing the terrified look in his eye.
"No matter what stay with your mother." He said and headed up a ladder. "Clara stay with the Stone."
"Okay." She answered.
"Stay here." He repeated. "Don't argue."
She frowned. "I'm not."
"Right." He frowned slightly. "Good."
"Oh, it's a young man's game, all this dashing about." Grisenko said. "Clara, what is it?"
"I was doing okay. I mean, I went in there and I did the scary stuff, didn't I?" She said to him. "I went in there with the Ice Warrior and it went okay. Actually, it went just about as badly as it could have done but that wasn't my fault."
"Not at all."
"So I'm happy about that."
"Yes.
"Chuffed."
"And so you should be. So what's the matter?"
She looked at the Stone who nodded and left the room guessing what she wanted to talk about.
"Seeing those bodies back there. It's all got very real." She told him. "Are we going to make it?"
"Yes, of course."
×××
"What was that?" Clara asked as the Stone returned.
"The Doctor told you, it's just the boat settling."
"Tell me about yourself. What do you like doing?" Clara looked around ignoring the Russian man. "Clara?" She didn't reply. "Clara?"
"Stuff." She shook her head. "You know, stuff."
"Stuff." He nodded. "Very enlightening. And the Doctor and the Stone, what they said. Is it true you're from another time?" He asked. "From our future? Clara?"
"Yes."
He stood up. "Tell me what happens."
"I can't." She shook her head eyes darting to the Time Lady who raised a brow.
"Well, I need to know."
"I'm not allowed."
"No, please."
"Grisenko-" the Stone went to warn.
"Ultravox," He suddenly asked, "do they split up?"
Clara stared at him for a moment and then laughed, Grisenko smiled. "Who's Ultravox?" Araya wondered.
"What have your parents been teaching you for a hundred years?" Clara asked.
"One hundred and one." Araya corrected.
"Oh, alright then." Clara rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "One hundred and one years"
"Araya knows more than a human girl her age."
"Clearly." Clara snorted.
"I know how to multiply numbers up to 25." Araya grinned.
"Blimey, remind me to get you to tutor the kids I nanny." She was pushed with a force that Clara thought wasn't possible for a little girl. She managed to miss the two clawed hands that went to grab her, Araya, however, missed by only a second and was grabbed by two claw-like hands above making her scream. She thought she could make it and save Clara at the same time.
×××
The Doctor heard it in his mind, his hearts froze and he turned back, running as fast as he could, forcing his legs to go numb as he pushed harder and harder. "Araya!" He screamed; the Stone was with her, if she tried to do anything on impulse it could put them both at risk. He couldn't lose them. Anyone but them.
×××
The Stone gave a threatening look, her eyes narrowed at two dark red glowing orbs near the ceiling. Grisenko pointed his gun up at the darkness where the arms were attached to before the Time Lady could do anything. "Let her go!" He shot two bullets and the arms released the Time Tot. She sprinted towards her mother and jumped into her arms, burying her head into the Time Lady's neck, she was shaking with terror as she sobbed. "I thought I could save Clara." She wailed into her mother's mind. The Time Lady swallowed hard and rubbed her daughter's back. Her hearts broke hearing how upset the little she was, her crying was even more painful.
The Doctor burst into the room, his eyes darted around and locked onto the Stones. Quickly making his way across to her he checked Araya and breathed out a sigh, kissing her head. "Don't scare me like that Rae." He murmured into her hair tightly hugging her after the Stone let go. Letting him hold her for a bit, reminding him that she was okay. "I don't know what I would do if something happened to you. You're mine and your mum's little girl."
"I wanted to help." She sniffed, squeezing his neck tightly. "Just like you and mummy do."
"Oh poppet..." he whispered, "we'll talk about it later." He softly replied. "But I got you, it's okay. No one will hurt you." He promised and then looked up at the others. "Is everyone okay?"
"Yeah," Clara breathed out. "Grisenko saved her."
"But not himself." Skaldak hissed and grabbed onto the mans head.
"No, please don't hurt him." Clara shouted. "Please!"
"You attacked me." Skaldak hissed. "Martian law decrees that the people of this planet are forfeit. I now have all the information I require. It will take only one missile to begin the process. To end this Cold War."
"Grand Marshal, there is no need for this." The Doctor resisted a growl of anger. He wanted to honestly make the Ice Warrior beg for forgiveness for laying even a finger on his daughter, but that wouldn't help anyone. "Listen to me."
"My distress call has not been answered. It will never be answered. My people are dead. They are dust. There is nothing left for me except my revenge."
"There is something left for you, Skaldak." The Stone cut in, her eyes were still like daggers but her voice had grown slightly softer than moments ago. She was asking him nicely, not threatening or growling. "Mercy."
"Mercy?"
"You must wear that armour for a reason, my friend." Zhukov walked in with a gun. "Let's see, shall we?"
"No, Captain, wait!" The Doctor shouted moving the gun down while turning slightly to keep himself between it and Araya.
"I will do whatever it takes to defend my world, Doctor."
"Yes, great, fine, good, but we are getting somewhere here." He argued. "We are negotiating. Jaw-jaw not war-war."
Grisenko asked. "Churchill?"
The Time Lord nodded. "Churchill."
"Very well, we'll negotiate, but from a position of strength-"
"Excellent tactical thinking." Skaldak cut in. "My congratulations, Captain."
"Thank you."
"Unfortunately, your position is not, perhaps, as strong as you might hope."
The Stone frowned. "What do you mean?"
The Ice Warrior's armour suddenly burst in and Skaldak released Grisenko and wasted no time getting into his armour.
"He summoned the armour."
"How did it do that?"
"Sonic tech, Clara. The song of the Ice Warrior."
Skaldak turned around and headed towards the console room as a submariner emptied their rifle in the back of the Ice Warrior's armour.
"No!" The Doctor shouted, stopping the man by pointing the weapon down with the arm not holding his daughter.
"My world is dead but now there will be a second red planet." Skaldak swore and continued walking. "Red with the blood of humanity!"
"Skaldak!" The Doctor shouted. "Wait!" He ran ahead carrying Araya as Skaldak headed into the control room, plugging himself into the computer with small cables coming out of his fingers. The launch keys all turned to lock on.
"No! Skaldak, wait!" The Doctor's eyes widened as Clara, the Stone and Captain Zhukov caught up. "Wait, wait."
"He's arming the warheads."
"Where is the honour in condemning billions of innocents to death?" The Stone asked. "Five thousand years ago Mars was the centre of a vast empire. The jewel of this solar system."
"The people of Earth had only just begun to leave their caves." The Doctor cut in. "Five thousand years isn't such a long time. They're still just frightened children, still primitive. Who are you to judge them?"
Skaldak unplugged himself and turned around. "I am Skaldak! This planet is forfeit under Martian law."
"Then teach them." The Stone ordered. "Teach them, Grand Marshal. Show them another way. Show them there is honour in mercy. Is this how you want history to remember you? Grand Marshal Skaldak, Destroyer of Earth." She scoffed. "Because that's what you'll be if you send those missiles. Not a soldier, a murderer. Five billion lives extinguished in a moment. No chance for goodbyes. A world snuffed out like a candle flame!" Skaldak didn't reply and the Stone shook her head as he turned around. "Alright then Skaldak you leave me no choice. She brought out her screwdriver. The Doctor staring at her now as her eyes grew dark and her voice grew threatening. If anyone thought the Oncoming Storm was dangerous they hadn't met the fury of the Stone yet. "I'm a Time Lady Skaldak and you know what that means." She warned pointing her sonic at the controls. "I know a thing or two about sonic technology, you leave me no choice."
"A threat?" He asked. "You threaten me, Stone?"
"No." She replied her eyes darting to look at the Doctor and Araya. "No, not you, all of us." She swallowed slightly and looked back at the Ice Warrior. "I will blow this sub up before you can even reach that button, Grand Marshal. Blow us all to oblivion."
"You would sacrifice yourself?"
"In a heartbeat." The Doctor cut in before the Stone could reply. Taking her hand in his and entwining their fingers together, the Time Lady blinked at him. Araya slowly nodded at her mother in agreement.
"Mutually assured destruction."
"Look into our eyes, Skaldak." The Doctor warned. "Look into our eyes and tell me you're capable of doing this."
"Can you do that?" The Stone said. "Dare you do it? Look into our eyes, Skaldak. Come on. Face to face."
"Well, Time Lords." He turned around and the helmet tilted back to reveal a lizard like face with lidless red eyes. "Which of us shall blink first?"
Araya frowned remembering when Skaldak let Grisenko go. She squirmed her way out of the Doctor's hold. "Araya." The Doctor tried to stop her.
"No Daddy." She shook her head and stepped forward, looking up at Skaldak. "Why did you hesitate?"
Clara nodded and stepped forward to join the little girl. "She's right, back there, in the dark. You were going to kill this man, remember?" She nodded at Grisenko. "I begged you not to, and you listened. Why show compassion then, Skaldak, and not now?"
"Mummy's right. Billions will die if you do this."
"Mothers, sons, fathers, daughters." Clara cut in. "Remember that last battle, Skaldak? Your daughter. You sang the songs."
"Of the Red Snows." He whispered.
"Don't let them have to say goodbye to their daughter," Clara said just before the submarine shifted. "What's happening?" Clara asked grabbing Araya to help keep her steady.
"My people live," Skaldak stated. "They have come for me!"
Zhukov ran to the controls. "We're rising." He shouted. "We're rising!"
"Six hundred metres." Grisenko read off. "Five fifty."
They crashed through the ice. "We've surfaced. Your people have saved us."
"Saved me, not you." Skaldak corrected the Doctor.
The Stone shook her head. "Just go, Skaldak, please."
"Please, go in peace." The Doctor asked.
Skaldak teleported away. Clara cheered but the Time Lords stood frozen, Araya backed away from Clara and closer to her parents, both of their arms resting on her shoulders. "We did it. We did it!"
They knew they hadn't yet. "No." The Doctor stated making her stare at the three. "No, no, no, no, no."
"It's still armed. A single pulse from that ship." The Stone shook her head looking at the Doctor, who squeezed her hand I'll destroy us if I have to. "I will destroy us if I have to."
"Show mercy, Skaldak." The Doctor whispered picking up Araya, holding her tightly between himself and the Stone. "Come on. Show mercy."
"I'm lost and I'm found, and I'm hungry like the wolf." Clara quietly sang.
The keys all turned back making the Time Lords let out a breath, the Stone pocketed her sonic as the Doctor kissed Araya's hair.
"Now we're safe." He murmured.
Clara laughed and hugged the Time Lords. "Saved the world, then?" She raised a brow.
"Yeah." He nodded.
"That's what we do." Araya beamed.
"Yeah."

They stood outside just above the ice on the submarine tower with the Ice Warrior spaceship above them. "The TARDIS!" Clara exclaimed. "Where's the TARDIS? You never explained."
"Oh well, don't worry about that." The Doctor tried to wave her off.
"Stop saying that. Where is it?"
"Yeah. Well, I wasn't to know, was I?"
"Know what?"
"I've been tinkering, breaking her in. I'm allowed."
The Stone snorted. "You've been doing that for over around nine hundred years now." Araya giggled at her father who pouted at his wife.
Clara sighed. "What did you do?"
"I reset the HADS."
"Huh?" He didn't reply.
"Doctor." The Stone gave him a small nudge to explain while smiling almost smugly at him.
"I don't want to say it." He mumbled through a pout.
"He reset the HADS." The Stone sighed.
"The what?" Clara frowned.
"The HADS." Araya cut in smiling. "The Hostile Action Displacement System." She recalled. "If the TARDIS comes under attack, gunfire, time winds, the sea etcetera it relocates."
"Oh, Doctor." Clara shook her head.
"Haven't used it in donkey's years." He shrugged. "I was showing Araya parts of the TARDIS and how to fly her, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Well, never mind, it's bound to turn up somewhere."
His sonic then buzzed in his pocket and he grinned. "Ooo. Ha, see?" He showed them. "Right on cue. Brilliant."
"Brilliant." Clara smiled.
His face fell slightly. "The TARDIS is at the pole."
Clara shrugged. "Not far, then."
"The South Pole."
"Ah."
"Could we have a lift?" The Doctor asked Zhukov who laughed.
×××
"Araya-Rose." The Doctor spoke up when they stepped back into the TARDIS, the little girl had tried to avoid her parents and head deeper into the TARDIS since they left Clara's after dropping her off. "We need to talk."
The girl froze her foot in the air, afraid that if she put it down the noise would echo and bring more attention to herself.
Her parents never used her full name unless it was something serious.
"Yes." She winced turning around to face them.
The Doctor sighed and ran a hand down his face, walking towards Araya, the Stone next to him. they both crouched down to match her height. "What happened poppet?"
"I wanted to help." She whispered looking down.
"We know." He nodded. "But why did you risk your life?"
"You and mummy do it all the time."
"Oh, darling." The Stone murmured tightly hugging Araya and picking her up, shifting her slightly so she could see both her parents. "We're so much older than you are, you're precious to us."
"And if something happened to you it would be our fault." The Doctor cut in. "You don't need to risk your life to help, you have something special to help you, Rae."
"I do?" She sniffed growing tearful.
"Yes." He smiled lightly tapping her head. "You have this."
"My temple?" She frowned.
"No silly." The Stone chuckled. "Daddy means your brain."
"Yes, you're the smartest little Time Lady I know and you don't need to risk yourself for others, you're very clever. You and Clara changed Skaldaks mind today when he was going to destroy the planet."
"I did." She smiled remembering what happened. "I did that."
"Yeah, so no more trying to save others by putting yourself in danger okay?"
"Okay, daddy." She smiled hugging him. "Sorry mummy, sorry daddy."
"It's okay poppet." The Doctor smiled kissing her cheek. "Let's all go to the library for a bit, that adventure was rough."

I got a Macbook today which is making writing and editing SO much easier! Just to give you a bit of an insight into what I went through before: I wrote on my iPad on Notion as I have a keyboard that connects to it, then I'd have to move over to my computer to edit and then transfer everything to Wattpad, edit the gif sizes, add the gifs and publish.
It also was truly a nightmare when I used to make video edits and I stopped due to the space my software, scene packs etc was taking up but now I have this! It's been a bit hard to wrap my head around it as I'm a Windows girlie through and through with a gaming computer because I'm a nerd but it's not been so bad so far, it just means now I can do all my editing from the comfort of my bed!
