A Night
For a person, the shadows in the hills can be terrifying. As I look out at it, it does give me a sense of insecurity. When I climb onto the window sill, a creak of the door from behind the curtains gets me right back down.
A friend comes to join. I say the sounds of crickets outside are wonderful. Really, they're not all that great. It just seemed like the most obvious thing at that moment.
I look up at the skies. Instead of pitch black, it is a grey that outlines the shadows of the trees. The brightness sets me anticipating a sunrise that won't come until I close my eyes. I hate it.
The sounds of passing planes blare in the silence of the night, loud and clear in my ears. It sounds like the incoming of a disaster, yet carries the anticipation of many waiting to land. Without anything in sight, the blares slowly fade into the chirping of crickets.
