Lumiose City. A bustling metropolis with awe-inspiring architecture as far as the eye can see. This place had everything from great food to astounding entertainment. People from all walks of life gathered to this great city to experience its pleasures.

Calem's eyes widened at the sight of the city. Having been from Hoenn, he had never seen anything like this. Serena and Shauna both giggled at Calem's speechless reaction. Trevor and Tierno however, frowned.

"Hey guys? What's up with the tower? It's always lit," Tierno pointed out.

"Hey, you're right Tierno, the tower is down. And what's the deal with all the cops?" Serena asked aloud.

"The city's had a power outage on the other side," came an unfamiliar voice from behind.

Calem and the crew turned to see a young man and woman standing before them. The man had dirty blonde hair and wore a white longsleeve and white pants with tan shoes. He also had a blue scarf to round off the outfit. The woman had violet locks and wore a similar outfit to the man with the substitution of a skirt. She had a red scarf.

"Ah! Dexio, Sina! Bonjour!" Shauna greeted.

"Bonjour Shauna, glad you guys could make it," Dexio stated, his eyes shifting to Calem.

"This must be Calem, am I right? The Professor briefly mentioned you to us a few days ago. And it looks like you managed to stay alive hanging with these two," Sina gestured to Serena and Shauna.

"What was that!?" Shauna fumed.

"Relax Shauna, I was kidding. No need to get your undies in a twist," Sina laughed.

"Still the same as you were in school huh Sina," Serena smirked.

"Yep. And proud of it. But nevermind that. The Professor wants to see you five so we'd best not keep him waiting," Sina said with a sweet smile.

"Are they friends or something?" Calem muttered to Trevor who nodded.

"Yeah, Sina's just like them too. The three were a trio back in school. They still keep in touch. Sina's just busier since she and Dexio work for the Professor. Not to mention, they're pretty good trainers too," Trevor informed.

"That explains their remarks," Calem replied.

"Yep. Dexio hung out with us too. He was the ladies man of the bunch. He once tried to court Serena, but before he could, he witnessed her axe-kicking a jock who tried to grab her. Let's just say he gave up after seeing that. The guy's a lover, not a fighter," Tierno inputted.

"I've been meaning to ask about that. Shauna asked if I boxed. I'm guessing that's what Serena does right? Based on what you told me that is."

"Bingo Callie. But it's more than that. She kickboxes. Power in arms and legs," Shauna chimed in.

Calem shifted his gaze towards Serena who nodded at Shauna's statement. "Yep. I was part of the kickboxing club at our school. I'm guessing you had a martial arts club since you mentioned it during our trip to Santalune City?"

"Yeah, I did MMA which also included swordplay," Calem retorted.

MMA? Swordplay? Boxing!? I'm starting to get the feeling that I wasn't imagining what I felt from those two. Thought the raven-haired young woman who was hiding nearby.

You were right to follow them, Angelique, replied the Lucario with her.

I seriously wasn't expecting strong aura signatures to stand out that much in a city filled with thousands of people. I will need to keep a close eye on them, Angelique stated with a serious expression.

Inside the lab, Professor Sycamore was busy getting things ready for his soon-to-be arriving guests. Just then, the elevator to his floor opened and seven individuals stepped out.

"Bonne journée! Glad you all could make it!" Sycamore declared.

"Bonne journée Professor!" Shauna chirped happily.

"Dexio, Sina, thank you for bringing them. Dexio, could you go and retrieve the surprise we have for them?" Sycamore asked.

"Oui, de retour bientôt!" Dexio replied, complying with the Professor's request.

"Surprise?" Calem blinked, glancing towards Serena.

"Don't look at me. I am just as clueless as you are," Serena said nervously.

Dexio soon returned with a box similar to the one Tierno carried Froakie and the others in.

"Before we start, I have a question. You all know that once a Pokémon reaches it's final stage, there is nothing beyond it right?" Sycamore queried.

"That's true Professor. No Pokémon can go beyond their final evolution," Trevor replied.

"What if I told you," Sycamore began, "that there was a stage beyond the final evolution?"

Everyone, save for Dexio and Sina looked shocked. "Excuse me, but...what?" Shauna inquired.

"Allow me to explain. I am sure that you all are familiar with Lucario. Well, according to legend, as well as data, Lucario was the first Mega Evolution. However, if we go back even more, we find that it was not Lucario who was the first, but the legend of Hoenn, Rayquaza who did it first," Sycamore explained.

"Mega Evolution occurs when the bond between a certain Pokémon and their trainer has reached its full potential. When that happens, they take on an entirely new form and become even more powerful than before. Of course, this cannot be accomplished without keystones and mega stones," Sycamore summed up.

"Whoa! That sounds awesome! So, does this work with any Pokémon?" Tierno asked excitedly.

"Unfortunately, no. It doesn't. However, there are several that it does work with. Take the lab's Garchomp for example. He is capable of Mega Evolution. Which brings me to why I called you all here. In this box are three Pokémon that I am going to give to you. Serena, Shauna, Calem, choose your newest partners!" Sycamore exclaimed, releasing three Pokémon from their chambers.

The three that stood before the trio were Torchic, Mudkip and Treeko. A smile plastered itself onto Calem's face. He knew exactly who he was going to pick.
