"This battle is between the Santalune City Gym Leader; Viola and the challenger; Serena from Vanville Town. This will be a two on two matchup. Only the challenger may switch Pokémon. Serena will have the first move. Contenders, send out your Pokémon!" The ref shouted.

"Surskit, it's picture time!" Viola called out, releasing Surskit onto the battlefield.

"Chespin, let's go!" Serena shouted, firing Chespin's ball.

Bothe Pokémon erupted from their respective devices and faced each other, ready to battle it out.

"Go get'er Serena! You've got this!" Shauna cheered.

"We're rootin' for ya Serena!" Calem shouted.

"Take her down!" Trevor called out, causing Tierno to raise a brow.

"Easy Trevs, it's a Gym battle, not a wrestling match," Shauna laughed, causing Trevor to blush faintly.

"You guys really support each other huh?" Alexa chuckled.

"You bet your sweet arse we do!" Shauna exclaimed.

"Yeah. If you thought my match was exciting, then strap yourself in. Serena's no slouch and you'll see why soon," Calem stated with a smirk.

X-X-X

"Chespin use Tackle!" Serena ordered.

Chespin obeyed and broke into a run, head lowered as he darted forward with increased momentum.

She watched my last fight, and makes a frontal assault like this? Oh well, I guess she'll have to learn the hard way. "Ice Beam!" Viola countered.

"Vine Whip into Rollout!" Serena commanded calmly.

Thick vines shot out from Chespin, snaring the pond skater on the spot. This still didn't impede her enough to prevent the Ice Beam that exploded from her antenna. Chespin rolled up inside his shell which hardened as he rolled forward with intense speed, powering through the Ice-type move.

"Quelle!?" Viola exclaimed as Chespin thundered across the field.

Chespin hammered into the Bug/Water-type while still holding onto her with his vines. Chespin came out of his roll and shook a little from the cold. His shell may have softened the blow but he still felt the super-effective attack. Turning to look at his handiwork, he noticed that Surskit was struggling to get up.

"Send her flying!" Serena ordered.

"Ice Beam!" Viola countered.

Surskit powered up her antenna and fired, however, her aim was disrupted when she was flung towards the far wall with devastating force. Surskit passed out upon impact. Her efforts weren't without fruit as there were patches of ice on Chespin's right side.

"Surskit is unable to battle! Chespin wins!" The ref declared.

X-X-X

"Wow!" Shauna exclaimed enthusiastically. "That was awesome! I know I've seen her battle hundreds of times in school but that was sweet."

Alexa let out a long, drawn out whistle. "That was fast. You weren't kidding Calem, she is good."

"Told ya. In our first battle, she had the upper hand the whole time. I only managed to pull a tie due to Froakie's ability and a mistake Serena made. In other words, she had me beat," Calem stated as he observed.

X-X-X

"Impressive work Serena. Looks like I will be having even more fun this time around," Viola smiled, returning Surskit.

"Merci, I plan to keep you entertained," Serena replied.

"Good, because there's more to come. Vivillon, let's do this!"

Vivillon immerged onto the battlefield and spread her wings to take flight. Her eyes gazed upon her would be foe, waiting patiently for her trainer's command.

"Chespin, return for now," Serena stated, recalling her companion. "Pidgey, let's fly!"

Pidgey burst forth from her chambers with wings spread wide and a determined expression on her face.

"Vivillon, use Psybeam!" Viola commanded.

"Pidgey, Sand Attack!" Serena ordered.

Vivillon snapped off a concentrated Psybeam towards Pidgey only for the little bird to whip up a thick cloud of dust while moving to avoid the attack. The beam hit the wall instead.

"Watch out Vivillon, she could be anywhere! Gust the cloud away!"

"Quick Attack, Pidgey!" Serena shouted.

Like a rocket, Pidgey exploded out of the dust towards Vivillon, nailing her on the fly by. Vivillon shook off the blow and blasted the dust cloud away with a powerful gust, exposing Pidgey.

"Psybeam!" Viola called out.

Pidgey ducked the first and pulled up to avoid the second. Serena, though in a tight spot, remained calm.

"Pidgey, Quick Attack!" Serena bellowed.

Pidgey flapped her wings and bolted towards Vivillon, aiming to ram her. Viola smirked at this.

"Stun Spore!"

"Blow it away with Gust!" Serena countered.

Vivillon released paralyzing spores from her wings only to have them blasted away by a Gust from Pidgey, sending her sprawling through the air. Pidgey darted forward again and Vivillon was unable to avoid the speedy bird completely, and took a glancing blow before dishing out a Psybeam to her back.

"One more!" Viola ordered hastily.

Vivillon powered up and released a powerful blast of psychic energy towards Pidgey, driving her into the floor. When the dust settled, Pidgey was out cold.

"Pidgey is unable to battle! Vivillon wins!" The ref announced.

"Yikes, that was intense. The way she had that Pidgey moving was pretty impressive. Now she has to worry about Vivillon's effectiveness against Chespin," Alexa sighed.

"She'll be fine. Sure the odds aren't in her favor but she's been in tough spots before. Trust me, I know," Shauna pointed out.

"Yeah, you and her had some pretty rough matches back in school," Tierno laughed.

"That's right Dancy-Pants. And that is something that her and I loved about our time in that school. The thrill of the fight. And boy is her fire ignited now!" Shauna grinned.

Serena glanced up towards Shauna, her best friend, and smirked. Shauna knew that it was about to go down.

"Looks like we're down to our last Pokémon. Gotta hand it to you Viola, you really are worthy of the title you hold. A Bug-type expert and leader. But, I don't intend to lose here. I'm getting that badge," Serena stated.

"All I can say, is bring it on Serena! Let's see what you can do," Viola said with a grin.

"Chespin, battle's on!" Serena shouted, releasing Chespin back onto the field.

There were still frozen spots on his body, but other than that, he was fine. Vivillon seemed worn out and Chespin was as well. This was going to be tough.

"Chespin, Vine Whip repeatedly!" Serena commanded.

"Vivillon, Gust!" Viola countered.

Chespin released his vines into the air, lashing out at Vivillon with vicious strikes. Vivillon couldn't do anything but dodge.

Well, this is going to be interesting. Vivillon can't Gust and Chespin can't hit her so he's keeping her busy. Must be trying to wear her out. Not happening! "Vivillon, get clear and use Psybeam!"

Vivillon rose up higher, barely avoiding a vine before blasting the ground with a high powered beam. No fool, Chespin balled himself up and rolled out of the way, albeit a bit slower due to the frozen effects. Vivillon traced the beam across the floor, chasing Chespin as he rolled around. Vivillon launched another beam, only this one landed ahead of Chespin, throwing him off course and blasting him out of his ball, sending him skidding to a halt before his trainer.

"Finish it, Psybeam!" Viola shouted.

"Chespin, use your vines to jump and Rollout!" Serena commanded.

Much to Viola's surprise, Chespin whipped out his vines and slammed them on the ground, propelling him above the beam and towards Vivillon. Chespin balled up and spun rapidly before crashing hard into Vivillon, knocking her from the sky. Vivillon crashed into the ground with great force and fell unconscious. The ref's hand went up.

"Vivillon is unable to battle! Chespin wins the round which means the match goes to Serena the challenger!"

"You go girl!!!!" Shauna exclaimed excitedly, leaping from her seat to tackle-hug her friend.

"Ack! Shauna, we talked about this!" Serena growled, only to laugh at the situation.

"Bah! We did no such thing. Besides, you had it coming!" Shauna grinned.

Calem and the other two sweat-dropped as they watched. "Uh, are they alwaus like that?" Alexa inquired, shutting off her camera.

"Oh that? That's mild compared to what usually happens. But I don't feel like going into detail," Tierno laughed.

"Yeah, it's best to just leave them alone," Trevor replied.

Shauna was forced off Serena, landing on her butt and laughing. "That never gets old," Shauna giggled.

"And neither does seeing you flat on your arse," Serena declared proudly.

Shauna rolled her eyes and Serena helped her up. "That was intense!" Viola declared as she walked over with another badge.

"I'll say. You got me nervous when you knocked Chespin off balance. It was too close for comfort," Serena chuckled nervously.

"Still, you are one hell of a contender. You and Calem. This will be an interesting League this year if you two are in it," Viola beamed, presenting Serena with a badge. "This, I believe belongs to you. Great work, you earned it!"

"Thanks! I enjoyed every minute of that battle. It was, magnifique!" Serena replied, taking the badge and putting it away.

Turning around, she faced Calem, a smile spreading intermingled with a blush as he smiled back. "You were awesome Serena," Calem complimented.

"M-merci, Calem. You were great too. I mean, I know I said that already, but it never hurts to say it again you know?" Serena replied hastily.

This is good! They're bonding over this. It's a slow start, but a good one nonetheless! Shauna thought.

"Well, it's been a long day and I'm beat. I think I'll heal and head out for a while. I'm working on a new project and this is one of the best times to do it. Catch you all later!" Viola called back as she made her exit.

"I'll be going as well, be sure to see us before you leave!" Alexa stated before following her sister.

"We will! Bye you two!" Shauna hollered back.

The group soon exited the gym and made their way to the Pokémon Center to rest up. Trevor and Tierno had rooms near each other and Shauna was across the hall on the other side of Calem and Serena. The group chatted for a while and ate dinner before heading up to bed.

Calem was about to enter his room when he saw Serena was in the room next to his. They both looked at each other and blinked. Serena looked away nervously and smiled faintly.

"Those three..." Serena grumbled.

"They did this on purpose it seems. Eh, I ain't even mad," Calem laughed.

"Me either. After all, we are rivals and friends. Staying close is what it's all about right?" Serena chuckled.

Calem nodded and opened his door. "Good night Serena."

"Bonne nuit, Calem."
