4. Incarcerated
The police were guarding a cell. The cell held a prisoner who was chained to the wall. The police were armed and allowed to use force if they deemed it necessary. The prisoner was serving a life sentence, and if he caused any problems a death sentence.
In the cell was a creature of black slime. He's bones shattered beyond healing. He wore no blindfold to evade the truth. For he had removed it. An ugly truth is better than a beautiful lie.
The cell was cold and damp. The only light came from a small barred window. The chains were old and rusted. And there was a chipped bowl of what could have been porridge lying cold on the floor. There was a crack in the wall at the far end of the cell. A small mouse came out of the crack.
The mouse had been drawn out by the smell of food. It had grown used to the cold sludge that was found in the cells of the prison and would take whatever fell or was left unguarded. The mouse ran across the prison floor careful to stay out of sight of whoever was imprisoned there. He reached the food, taking one last look for any potential predators or threats. It's blood ran cold.
In front of the mouse was a weird creature of what appeared to be slime. It was black as ebony and had bones stuck out of him. All the bones appeared shattered as he was slumped against the wall like a lifeless puppet. He didn't move a muscle as though he was dead or too hurt to leave. The creature in front of the mouse appeared so broken whether the creature knew it or not. Something had B R O K E N him. The mouse seemed to be stuck to the spot as it stared at the creature, its eyes filled with commiseration and disquietude. The mouse was scared away at the sound of bones grinding against rock as the creature regained consciousness.
The creature awoke in a cold cell. Light leaked in through the barred window. The cell was cold but the creature didn't feel it. He subconsciously pulled his bones together as he ran his mind over the events that had transpired. He had fought Tylamthe the tyrant and man made dragon. He had come out victorious and unconscious. The creature was as ecstatic as an incarcerated blob creature could be about having ended Tylamthe's tyranny. He would love to celebrate this victory however he couldn't just get up and leave.
The creature's eyes fell back to the rusted shackles. It would be easy to slip out due to its... odd anatomy (a/n in case you haven't paid attention his bones are broken. I mentioned this several times throughout the story).
The creature stretched his limbs since the restraints could no longer prevent it. He turned to the cross hatched window. He heard shouts from outside. The guards must be doing their rounds. He ran for the far wall, got a foothold and started climbing.
Sap had been waiting for his servant friend to come home. Sap was a sugar glider. Sap was okay waiting for his friend, the creature, in fact he hadn't noticed that he was gone until he got hungry. Sap got bored of waiting and decided to raid the cupboards. He found some honey. Jackpot!
The creature slipped through the bars of the window and slid down the wall, as to not alert the guards. He felt the cold grass beneath his feet. He took one last look at the prison then ran.
He ran past the scorched, desolate park. Past the buildings surrounding the park. He ran till he felt he could no longer and only then he was half way there (a/n if you get the reference then kudos) he was now basically running on adrenaline. He reached his home and in his adrenaline rush he jumpkicked the door.
Sap was nearly done with the honey bottle when he heard and saw the door fly off its hinges. He sat motionless as he took in what just happened. The creature was home and seemed tired and slightly mad at him. He put down the honey bottle and glided off the shelf into his little glider nest. He wasn't going to try and talk about why he had nearly finished all the honey with the creature, who currently looked like he was about ready to beat someone. Not today.
