Chapter Seven
The large hall was the central area of the house. It was structured by stone and wood. In two rows on either side of the building were five identical wooden pillars holding up the rounded roof. Round shields hung from them facing inside of the room. Large wooden tables littered the place covered with different items ranging from map and weapons to ale and chicken. The wooden floor had seen better days with chips scattered here and there. Behind the Throne, a tall back wooden chair was a large fireplace. The flames were dancing and burning away, giving the hall a warmth.
"Sir Gaywn, I must say, you have done wonders with this town." Aldith smiled broadly to a man who sat in a tall back chair. His brown hair was sprinkled with grey stands throughout, and was pulled back sleekly from her forehead. His face looked young but with a few age creased on the outsides of both of his brown eyes. His chiselled square jawline was clean-cut and a smile planted on his thin lips. "King Jehanel put his trust in the right person."
"If it weren't for the King and his quick thinking, this little village would have caused many problems," Gaywn said as he rose from his chair, it slid back from under the large wooden table in front of him as she walked around it. "It pains me that he was taken so soon from us." Gaywn murmured as he walked over to Aldith. He put his hand out and placed onto the outsides of her upper arms. Gaywn stood half a foot taller than her small figure, so he looked down at her with a smile. "It is good to see you again, little one."
"And you Gaywn, it has been far too long," Aldith replied as Gaywn reached his arms around her and pulled Aldith tightly into his chest. His right hand placed itself over her hair. "Gaywn, I need your help." Aldith began speaking into his shoulder before pulling away and looking up to his chocolate eyes once more. "I need to bring the guild together again."
"You know we swore that the guild would never reform to the royal seal." Gaywn shook his head, was it was true they had not seen each other in so long. But there was a good reason behind that.
"Yes, I know that I was there. I signed the parchment too."
"Then you should also know that the only person who can break that deal was King Jehanel." Gaywn half yelled at her, before gaining back his temper. He walked away slightly, turning his back to Aldith with his head hung low. "Or his descended, which he does not have." Aldith fell into silence, not knowing how to piece together the words that she was about to say.
"That is where you are wrong," Killian spoke up in her defence. He stepped forward to Aldith left-hand side as Gaywn turned to look at him up and down.
"Well, if it isn't the little brat prince from the north," Gaywn spoke as he began to size the prince up.
"Have a care with how you speak." Aymer stepped forward in a threatening tone.
"I will speak how I please to whom I please. This is my house!" Gaywn yelled out at them both with an orange spark in his brown eyes. Something that Aldith had not seen in a very long time. "In here there is no rank, you earn your respect."
"And how do we do that?" Eliot piped up behind them. Aldith sighed and dropped her head into her right hand.
"You fight, no weapons. No armour." Gaywn smirked deeply as they all looked around.
"Where do we sign up?" Aymer spoke enthusiastically with a smile.
"Excellent! Tonight we feast and fight!" Gaywn yelled at the top of his voice. All those who were in the hall also began to roar with excitement. Soon the bells started to ring above the roof, signalling to the rest of the village there would be a feast that night.
"Trust me to find a way into a fight." Aldith rolled her eyes at Aymer's words and turned around before walking away from the men.
"Where are you going?" Gaywn called out. "To get ready for a fight," Aldith called back throwing her right arm into the air, "You'll fight too?" Gaywn called out happily.
"Only to your biggest and best!" Gaywn let out a squeal of joy at her statement. Aldith left the hall and descended the stairs of the main house. Once she was on level ground, Aldith crossed her arms across her chest, lazily looking around the little town. Deciding to go for a walk, she turned to her right slightly and walked forward over the dirt road. She watched as the local villagers wandered around, talking with each other happily. Some had already begun to prepare everything for the feast. In Doondin, when Lord Gaywn held a feast -no matter who the guest- everyone within the village would attend; even the children.
" Excuse me miss," A little high pitched voice called behind her. Aldith looks down to her right a saw a little boy, no older than seven smiling a toothless smile up at her. She smiled brightly and turned to face the little boy. "Are you the Lady Aldith?" He asked her.
"Yes, Indeed I am. How might I be of service to you, young man?" Aldith humoured him. His smile only grew wider with each word.
"Will you teach us how to fight with a sword?" He beamed up. "A sword?" Aldith asked high pitched, her lips lifted in a smile to the right. The little boy nodded rapidly with an adorable giggle. "Okay, but first. What is your name, little one?"
"Guy!" He called out before grabbing her hand before beginning to drag her with him. They made their way around several houses before coming to an open field where four other kids were playing around. "Look, look!" Guy yelled out, "Lady Aldith is going to teach us sword fighting!"
"Really!"
"So cool!" Where some of the words chimed out by the young ones who now surrounded Aldith's legs.
"Okay, but first thing is first! You must find a stick to be your sword. But not just any old stick. It has to be the right one for you." Aldith smiled at them as they all nodded.
"But how do we know when we have the right one?" A little girl asked quickly. "Well, when you pick it up," She said as she reached down and picked up a random stick. "And you hold it, you'll know it."
"Okay!" They all cried. "You have the having until tomorrow morning to find one or two! Then we will have a little bit of training." Aldith told them before they all scattered with very loud giggling. Aldith stood to her feet before heading to the hut which had been set for their stay. She had to get ready for tonight; she couldn't let her reputation slip.
