1. Drives and Accidents

The moon shone up in the sky and down on the road, Mishthi kidnapped Sia. It wasn't the easiest task to do, and she would have probably ended up in hospital if she had approached her from the back, but she'd appeared in front of her and pointed her fingers at her as if they were a gun.

If you'd ask Sia, she'd tell you she had no idea why she was still friends with this girl but deep down she adored her. She let out a small laugh when Mishthi explained her plan of a long drive and then some food she'd picked up previously, "sounds like a date to me." Sia had joked.

Mishthi winked at her and led her towards the car, "now hurry up! We only have four hours before the day ends." Sia had rolled her eyes at the girl with fondness.

Despite everything, Sia had enjoyed a lot. After almost three hours of driving, and getting lost a few times, they'd finally stopped in front of some park which neither Sia nor Mishthi recognised. They'd eaten the food there and then gazed at the stars before taking their leave when the clock stuck twelve in the midnight.

On their way they'd blasted sad songs and sang along to them, all off-tune. Around two in the morning, the two girls had gotten back to Sia's house. Mishthi had given Sia 'The Folk of the Air' series by Holly Black, she had been bugging Sia to read it since a long now. Sia had bid her one final farewell, knowing that the older girl wouldn't be in the state by morning.

Sia walked back to her parents' flat, inserting the key and twisting it before opening the door as quietly as she could. She didn't want to wake her parents at this hour, nor did she want to get lectured. She quietly kept the box of books on the coffee table before making a cup of coffee for herself. Just another week and she'd be back home in the northern part of the city. She yawned before pouring the coffee in a cup and retired to her room.

She spent the night after her birthday, browsing on her laptop and completing the assignment she was supposed to turn in next week. After another hour or so, she was sound asleep with her head on the keypad of the laptop and the screen emitting bright light. She regretted all of it when she woke up the next morning.

She regretted it even more when she left for her way towards the local train and a pair of boys started to hit on her, "would look even more beautiful without it," one of them had said. In her right mind, she would have probably ignored them, but she was sleep deprived and had a huge headache.

She landed a punch at one of the boys left eye and the other automatically approached her. She kneed him in the groin, pushing him back and punching him in the throat. She had even landed a kick to the other guy before she left both of them groaning on the desolated street.

With every movement that passed by, she rolled her eyes and groaned. Upon arriving at her office, she secluded herself in her cabin, murmuring repeatedly, "just one more week." After all, it was a choice she had made herself.

Sia was nineteen when her father mentioned a vacant part-time position in his office. He believed it would provide her with experience beneficial for her future endeavors. Sia applied for the position and was successful in securing the job. In less than two years, she learned numerous skills, significantly improving at her job. Now, she works full-time on days when she does not have college.

She yawned, struggling to focus on the files she needed to complete within the week. Almost everything was done; she just had to match the product prices with the bills. Shaking her head, she took a sip of water and stood up from her chair. Deciding to get a cup of coffee, she left the cabin. As she walked toward the coffee machine, her gaze landed on the man approaching her, and she froze. She would recognize that face anywhere, and by God, she hated it already.

She hadn't realized how it had happened, but in less than a minute, the guy from the bar had bumped into her, resulting in both of them falling to the ground.

"What the fuck?" She heard the guy speak and she could swear, she hadn't hated someone so bad. "Can't you fucking see?"

"You were the one who was walking!" She accused; she couldn't believe this guy. How dare he blame her when he himself was walking while looking backwards? "And what the hell are you doing here?" She found herself asking.

Ayaan crooked his eyebrows at the girl, "I work here!" It was a lie, both of them knew it but Ayaan was pretty sure he was going to get the job. He glared at the girl and stood up from the ground.

Ayaan's day had been relatively good. He's woken up on time and hangover wasn't that bad either. He'd made himself a cup of coffee, and it tasted great. He'd worn his finest suit, without ruining it in any way, and left his flat with a lot of hope. The day had gotten even better when he confidently answered all the questions in his interview and the interviewer even seemed to like him.

He had a huge smile on his face as he exited the cabin. He watched as another boy went inside with a nervous look on his face, and smirked, no one else was getting this job. He was very confident.

He wondered why God was being so good to him today. He had his gaze attached at the cabin he'd exited a few moments ago as he walked outside. His happiness was, however soon taken away as someone bumped into him and made him fall down. He looked at her and his stomach did a somersault.

"No, you don't!" She argued back, getting up herself. Oh shit! He thought to himself.

"Well, I was here for an interview and I'm gonna get that job," he countered and saw her giving him a look. It was as if she didn't believe him.

"No, you're not!" She spoke. In the same tone as before. "You're not going to get a job here!"

"Who are you to decide that?" He asked and saw as she opened her mouth and closed it again with nothing to see. He smiled at her, sarcasm dripping in his voice as he spoke, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some other stuff to do, Princess." And with that, he walked out, leaving Sia speechless.

Sia sighed, glaring in his direction one last time, and walked towards the coffee machine. She pressed the button of the machine and waited for the coffee machine to pour some energy liquid in the cup.

"If you wanna walk out of that door alive, hand over all your money to me," came a deep voice from behind and without thinking anything, she turned around, landing her fist on the person's nose.

He groaned, holding his nose in his hand and Sia looked at him with wide eyes, "the hell, Kai?" She practically yelled at him, "you scared the shit out of me."

"Well, you punched the shit out of me!" Kairav argued back, his hand still covering his nose, "I think you broke it." He muttered and Sia shook her head at the boy. Why the hell was he so dramatic?

"Alright, I'm sorry," she said, rolling her eyes and filling the cup with coffee. "Now please stay away from me for today or you're gonna regret ever being my friend." She threated, in response to what he saluted at her. She smiled at the boy, before walking back into her cabin and got back to work. This wasn't how anyone would want their holidays to go like.

This was exactly what he wanted his holidays to be like. Ayaan got the e-mail of getting the job before he'd even gotten back to his apartment. He was in an auto and all he wanted to do was jump and dance. Instead, he opened the 'Phone' app in his mobile and dialed a number which was labelled as with a monkey emoji followed by a red heart.

"Bhonk!" Came the voice from the other side as soon as she picked it up.

"I got a fucking job!" He told her and expected her to scream in excitement. She did scream. But not of excitement. She screamed at him instead.

"What the fuck dude? Why are you drunk at two in the afternoon?" She said, and Ayaan was sure that she was serious.

"Mishthi! I'm not drunk or high," he told her, "I actually got a job!"

"Really?" She asked, sounding surprise, "I swear, I'm gonna kill you!"

"What? Why? I'm giving you good news!" He was quite confused by now.

"Well, first you get like a ninety seven percent in your twelfth class's board exams, then you get admission in IIT Mumbai, while I'm left here all alone and now you get a job! Before me! Tell Mum about the job and you're dead!" The threat wasn't as convincing as it should be but Ayaan nodded, nevertheless. "And the fact that you should be focusing on studies right now."

"Of course! I won't tell Mum about it," He replied, "and don't worry, it's just a part-time thing. It's far from college so I'm going to do most of the work online, only attending the office when it's very important." He explained and heard her sigh. He smiled slightly, he knew she wouldn't admit it but she cared about his aims and goals more than her himself did.

They talked about a bunch of stuff, which probably won't make any sense to anyone other than those two. She ranted to him about her new history professor, him adding a few comments here and there. He told her about how stupid his roommate was, and she agreed with him, telling him how she'd never liked him.

"What? You've not even met this guy!" He laughed a little, while paying the auto fare.

"I have!" She said to him in full confidence, "you're talking about Kartik, right?"

"No Ishu! He's my best friend! I'm talking about Sparsh!"

"Oh! Well, I don't know about Sparsh, but I don't like Kartik at all!" She clarified.

Since the two of them were kids, they shared each and every thing with each-other. They were like twins, born to different couples accidentally. Mishthi's father was Ayaan's mother's brother. When Ayaan was six, his parents left him with Mishthi's parents and went on a business trip to Meghalaya.

Mishthi and Ayaan still don't know the exact details except that they never returned. The taxi they were travelling in was found in a very bad state and the driver was dead, but the couple's bodies weren't found. Since then, Mishthi's parents adopted Ayaan and the two of them grew closer than ever.

"Yeah! I don't like Ainat much either!" He told her, rolling his eyes at the girl, not really remembering that she can't see him. He stepped inside the lift of his apartment and pressed the button to twelfth floor.

Mishthi let out a small laugh, "yeah sure! of course you don't like her a bit, it's not like you were literally begging me to introduce you to her just two years ago."

"Hey! That's a different thing! You also had a solid crush on Kartik when we were in ninth standard!" If she was going this way, then he had a lot of stuff on her too.

"Lies!" He heard her gasp, "I never ever ever ever did!"

"Yeah sure, the amount of evers you just used, clarifies it all."  He said in sarcasm as he exited the lift and walked towards his flat.

"Just leave it," she said, "how was the party last night?"

"Party? You literally just invited me to inform everyone that they're supposed to go home!" She giggled on the other side, "I didn't even get properly drunk before you messaged me to announce it!" He turned the doorknob and walked into his flat to find all the stuff the packed. "What the fuck?" He muttered to himself.

"What happened?" Mishthi asked.

"I'll call you later, I need to find out the answer to your question."  And with that he hanged up without waiting for the girl's response.

Also, to all those readers who don't know Hindi (if there are any) Bhonk means Bark! And yeah, this is it for now! See you next Wednesday!
