CHAPTER 1- Seriously! This is junior high?

I can't believe it's been two years since I started high school. I still remember the first day that I got here. I was so terrified, I was convinced the girls would somehow manage to eat me with their nasty glares and the boys would hunt me down at night. But seeing how as I'm still alive I assumed wrong.

And now I'm in junior high!

How exciting that must be right? WRONG! This is so lame.

Maybe it's cause I'm considered a dork here or I'm just seriously antisocial. I mean I've made some friends but they're just people I hangout with in this town.

Would you listen to that! The bell just rang and I haven't heard a thing this new economics teacher has been blabbing about. That means that I haven't taken any notes and my friends don't take economics classes so I'll just flunk this semester.

Whatever, screw that I better get to my next class. I get past the class door and head to my locker. As soon as I turn left  to the long hallway that leads to my locker, I'm faced with a heavy make out that's taking place between a very familiar long blonde head cheerleader and the school joke, Jacob.                           My cheeks start burning due to my lack of experience in this area. I bury my face in my book although I'm sure no one will notice me blushing thanks to my dark toned skin. Well, actually my skin tone is somewhere between chocolate and olive.

OUCH!!

"oh I am so sorry. I didn't mean to..." The poor guy didn't even finish apologizing when his so unkind friend interrupts him and says, "Dude! You're apologizing to this?" He's pointing his index finger at me like I'm some sort of a disease and I already feel tears stinging my eyes.

I was wearing my black and blue JORDAN. I remember Tori squealing about it being the newest, limited version or whatever but it's doing a great job at getting his attention.

"Do you have any idea how much those cost?"

Well he's staring at me like I came from another planet.

"Yeah, I'm quite aware of that."

For some reason Tori felt the need to waste $530 on a single pair of shoes. So we got one each and let's just say I'm not buying anything anytime soon!

"And you're walking on it? You put your nasty feet in a limited 2016 Jordan?"

"Well I'm pretty sure I didn't buy it to put it in a glassed frame"

"Oh you got some guts to..."

That's when the guy I 'accidentally' bumped into decides to speak up.

"That's enough Kaleb."

After turning to look at me with sorry eyes, he pulled his friend (whose name seems to be Kaleb) and leaves me there astonished and frozen. That's probably the longest I've been engaged in a conversation, if you call it a conversation, with a guy in a long time. Sad, I know.

I walk over to my locker, take my Math book and go to Algebra. Kill me!

--------------------------------------

Gosh, I've never despised Algebra so much! I mean honestly, numbers make me dizzy. I couldn't understand anything the teacher was talking about, and now he's given a group work. If you ask me he just did that so he can keep us busy while he plays Candy Crush on his phone.

He grouped us six members a group and I'm stuck with Rebecca, Kate, Cole, Claire and Ashton. We're as different as it can get. Rebecca is on the dance team. She's tall and confident (you can tell by the ripped skinny jeans, crop top and spiked Timber shoes).

Kate is more of an emo. She's got a dark hair with different colors here and there. She's got piercings a little above her left eyebrow and she's wearing a grey boat neck sweater that says, "If I actually spoke my mind I'd be in deep shit", a black ripped skinny jeans and converse.

Cole is the 'Golden boy'. He's wearing an Old School jacket, blue jeans and his hair is combed and shiny. Claire looks a little bit airheaded. Honestly, who wears a skirt so pink and so short with a top that's way too yellow and too tight?

I think Ashton's supposed to be the bad boy. He's wearing a leather jacket over a white T-shirt with faded jeans.

And then there's me, the geek. Personally I think it's better to be a nerd than to be geek. I mean at least nerds got the brains. We're just lost causes. Almost as if I want to prove that I take out a paper to start working. The second I start working on the first equation I hear,

"Seriously dude? You're gonna do this shit?"

I look up just in time to be confronted by a pair of dark blue eyes that belong to Ashton. I didn't even get the chance to speak up when the Golden boy says, "Well unlike some nonstarters, some of us actually want to get into college."

"Honestly, I don't think he'll grade this." Kate didn't even look up from her phone when she said that.

Claire steps in this time and says, "Ashton is right. I can't believe you guys are seriously gonna do this!"

"By the way, what's your name?" Of course Ashton doesn't know my name. The only reason I know everyone's name in our batch is the gossip loving tweets I've got for a friend.

"Jessica right?" Cole knows my name? Well that's a first.

"Yeah, Jessica Stone."

"Well, well. I sense books aren't the only things you study golden boy." What's Kate on to?

"The name's Cole Wilde and I've met Jessica before. Guess she doesn't remember though." Of course! Sophomore year...We had Literature together.

"No I remember. We had literature together right?"

"No...it was History actually. Is that the only thing you remember though?"

"Uhh....is there something else I should?" What is he talking about?

"Never mind." Okayyy. What the hell was that about?

"Cole isn't it? If you're done with your grilling, I would like to introduce myself." Ashton extends his hand so I can shake and I do.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Jessica."

"Ashton but YOU can call me Ash." Did he just wink at me?

--------------------------------------

That's by far the most fun I've had in a year or two. We talked about all sorts of stuff. It is weird how people so different can get along so well. They are all amazing in their own twisted ways.

But now it's lunch time. That means I'm at the usual table with my 'friends'. They're really just people I hang out with. They chose this table last year being convinced that it's the best place to mind everyone's business. They declared it has the best view of the preps and jokes and you can hear exactly what the rest of the average kids are talking about. Their words not mine. So ya, I'm here. I don't even know why hangout with these people. What's shocking is that at the end of every lunchtime I end up knowing more about the school's population than about them. I practically don't know them.

Five minutes till the bell rings. I can ditch them now. "I'm going to the toilet."

With that I grab my backpack and walk away. I doubt they heard my excuse when they're too obsessed with some guy asking this girl out.

I know school just begun like today but I can't help but think 'this is junior high?'
