Chapter 1: A Frozen Heart is Temporarily Thawed
(Finally! First story of the new year! Just in time for the Lantern Festival as well! I wanted to post this around the winter holidays, but I was so busy! Anyway, Klee is the reason I started to play Genshin! She's so smart and powerful and bright! Well, her and Zhongli. Enjoy!)
Aether and Lumine were readying themselves for another day at the Smash Mansion. Of course, today was a holiday to them.
"Travelers! Are we ready for another day at the Mansion?" Paimon, their travelling companion asked excitedly.
"Of course, we are" Lumine, the twin sister, said warmly.
"Who are we fighting today?" Aether, the twin brother, asked curiously.
Before Paimon could answer, there was a bit of commotion in the mansion. Lumine had managed to get breakfast before Toon Link tackled Boswer Jr for the morning sweets.
"I am not sure, but we should probably leave before their food fight breaks out" Lumine suggested as she handed a plat of pancakes to her twin brother.
"Right" he agreed.
Although it was rare, the twins were finally reunited for a moment and not in Treyvat and fighting each other. They both received invitations for this tournament and were excited to partake in it too. They decided to eat at the courtyard with a few other fighters.
"Ah! What a wonderful day for tea! Wouldn't you agree, Zelda?" Peach asked in a warm manner as she, Daisy, Rosalina, Zelda, and Twilight Zelda were enjoying teatime together.
Beresu entered with a tea tray holding a warm pot and a few snacks.
"Ah, nice to see you two spending some time together" she said a little jealous as she gave the princesses their tea.
"What happened to Byleth?" Aether asked as Paimon took a whole pancake and ate it herself.
"He's spending time with Cloud and Twilight Link. They wanted to test their strength, but I am not sure what that entirely means when it comes to my twin" Beresu answered with a shake of her head, "May I join you two?"
"Sure! Paimon wouldn't mind having someone else to talk with besides these two!" she said in delight as she tilted her head back and forth, "Though it is really strange that Aether and Lumine share their memories"
"Sharing their memories?" Beresu asked curiously as Sothis was even surprised to hear this.
"For some reason, when they reunited, they were also able to share their memories of their travels when the other wasn't present" Paimon explained as the twins nodded in agreement.
Beresu was surprised to hear this as Sothis reasoned, "Perhaps that is because of a twin connection. Twins often have unique skills. I wouldn't be surprised if you and your twin even have the same connection too. Well, we have time. Why not ask them a story?"
The Teacher grinned at the idea and asked, "It must be because of your twin connection. Twins are often regarded with mystical powers and abilities. Perhaps you shared your memories because of it. Why don't we test this? Do you have a story you would like to share to pass the time?"
The twins shared a look and nodded, but Aether announced with a determined expression, I'll be one to tell it!"
Lumine raised a brow at him as he nodded his head with delight. He cleared his throat and prepared to tell a story of their time at Mondstadt.
It was the day of the Windblume festival. The Knights of Favonius were excitedly preparing for the wonderful holiday as the traveler and Paimon finally arrived at the gates of the city.
"Wow!" Paimon said surprised as she floated besides the Traveler, "I wonder what's going on. Do you think the Knights of Favonius will need our help?"
"I don't know. We should head to their headquarters and find out" Aether, the traveler, replied with a nod of his head.
It wasn't often that they were in the city, so they should celebrate with their friends when they have the chance too. They were in between their adventures as well, so it didn't hurt to see their friends. They made their way to the headquarters and knocked on the door to Jean's office.
"Ah! Hey cuties. Are you here for the Windblume festival?" Lisa, the electro librarian mage, asked warmly as she raised her hat.
"Oh! Is it that time of year again?" Paimon asked warmly, "I cannot wait to enjoy the food and other fun activities here! Oh! Do you guys need help? We can help you!"
Lisa giggled at Paimon's reaction and opened the door just as another door to their right. They looked at the door and found the young Spark Knight happily holding her stuff as she was giggling.
"Ah, and what are you too, Klee?" Lisa asked as she and the traveler turned their attention to her.
The small girl turned to them in delight as she skipped to them. she adjusted her backpack, red hat, and wore the most adorable red outfit.
"Hello Lisa and honorary knight! I am getting ready for the Windblume Festival too!" she said happily, "I am going to set up fireworks around Mondstadt and set it off at night!"
Lisa laughed as Aether and Paimon grinned at the Spark Knight.
"Klee, who is going to supervise you with those fireworks?" Jean asked as she put her hands on her hips and stood behind Lisa, Aether, and Paimon.
The Spark Knight jumped embarrassed and quickly answered, "Sucrose and big brother Albedo! Oh! I am running late! I have to meet with them!"
She quickly gathered her belongings and rushed out of the knight's headquarters with Jean sighing.
"Perhaps you could look after Klee, Travler and Paimon. The Knights already have most of the events handled and prepared for everyone" Jean answered with a shake of her head.
Lisa sighed at her friend's exhaustion and even nodded to the Traveler.
"Oh, sure thing! We will handle this!" Paimon answered as she placed her hands on her hips with Aether nodded.
They left the headquarters and went after the Spark Knight who was running to another location very quickly. The two of them went after her and found her speaking with a mage who also happened to be a scientist. She has a pair of wolf ears and wore a mage's outfit for the cold weather.
"Oh, he's coming Klee. Don't worry" she reassured the Spark Knight before she looked up and greeted warmly, "Oh, hello traveler and Paimon. Are you here for the Windblume Festival too?"
Klee's expression brightened at the site of them
"Yep! And we are even here to help Klee with anything she needs!" Paimon confirmed as Aether smiled and nodded his head.
"Really?! Yay! You can help Klee with preparing the perfect day for her to spend with her big brother Albedo!" she answered happily.
Aether nodded his head as he felt a little sad that he would not be sharing the festival with his twin sister. Paimon and Sucrose noticed his quiet, sad expression while Klee took his hands and pulled him after her.
"Come along, honorary knight! We have work to do!" Klee said determinedly as she marched on ahead with a determined expression.
"And what will you be doing, Sucrose?" Paimon asked curiously as they followed the knights.
"I am helping Klee with her fireworks and making sure it doesn't harm anyone" Sucrose answered in a whisper as she adjusted her glasses, "But also, I am on the lookout for Mr. Albedo. He said he was going to attend, but he wanted to meet with me first"
Paimon was surprised Aether listened in and kept up with Klee.
"Do you think I could meet up with him?" Aether suggested with a grin, "He and I are good friends after all"
"Oh, I am sure he would enjoy that too" Sucrose answered with a nod of her head, "He seems a little lonely lately. I am sure the company would help him greatly"
Aether was surprised to hear that Albedo was lonely. Albedo was usually in his studies and focusing on his research. He hoped his friend was doing well.
"Oh! Honorary Knight! Klee wants to give this to big brother Albedo!" Klee shouted as she gained their attentions.
The traveler, Paimon, and Sucrose looked over little Klee's shoulder and saw the item in her hands. It was a new beaker and alchemist set. Albedo already used his, but Klee believed her big brother could use another one.
"It is a wonderful gift, Klee" Sucrose said warmly as Klee grinned in delight.
Klee let out a delighted cheer as she went to pay for it. Aether and Sucrose happily watched after her as Paimon suggested to grab a bite to eat.
"Let's see. Everything should be in order for when I leave" Albedo whispered to himself as he checked his clipboard.
He adjusted his blond hair and dusted his white lab coat. He wore a fancy, blue shirt, and black pants with boots. His vision was tied on his waist, but his eyes glanced to his table on the light blue vision.
"Perhaps I should take this with me as well" he reasoned as his blue eyes shined with worry.
It was unheard of. A person having two visions is not a common trait even though he did hear a report from his time in Inazuma that someone did use two visions. Perhaps it will be common soon enough. He didn't want to leave it out of his site either. He sighed as he recalled how excited his little sister and Sucrose were about him attending this Windblume festival.
Albedo picked up the light blue vision as he whispered to himself a melody, "Don't let them in. Don't let them see. Be the good scientist you know you always are"
He picked up the vision and clasped it to his belt behind his belt.
"Conceal, don't feel" he whispered as he picked up a paintbrush as the cryo element froze it, "Put on a show. Make one wrong move and everyone will know"
Albedo placed the paintbrush down and then picked up his black gloves to put it on.
"It is only for today" he whispered to himself as he turned to Mondstadt with a grin, "Time for me to open my way to them!"
"It is only for today! I cannot wait to see my big brother!" Klee sang happily as she was skipping around Monstadt with Paimon floating at her side while the traveler and Sucrose were walking behind her.
She happily took in the sights of her home as she grinned and giggled at the site of everyone preparing for the festival. A person was opening their window to place fresh new plants, Diluc was opening his winery for the festival, Lisa was using her magic to carry the many plates that would be used for the festival, and Fischl and Bennett were clearing an area for people to dance on.
"The window is, so that's door! I didn't know they did that anymore! Who knew we owned eight thousand plates?! For days I've roamed this empty city! Why have an empty courtyard with no balls? They're finally ready for the festival!" Klee sang happily as Aether and Sucrose found her adorable.
"Why is she singing?" Sucrose asked bewildered as Aether shrugged.
"I think it is nice. She's having fun!" Aether replied as they continued to follow the little knight.
"Big brother Albedo will actual be. It will be a little strange, but wow, I am so ready for this change!" Klee exclaimed happily as she skipped down the street, "Cause for the first time in forever, there'll be laughter, there'll be light!"
The other people were overlooking her and grinning as she waved to them and giggled in reply. She then stood in front of the gates to Dragonspire as she grinned at it.
"For the first time in forever, I'll be dancing through the night with my big brother!" she sang happily as she twirled in place.
Aether and Sucrose were surprised to hear this from her, and Aether rushed to pick her up and hold her above his head. Klee laughed happily as Aether continued to walk forward. Sucrose grinned and walked after them while Paimon was happily flying after them.
Klee whispered to herself warmly, "Cause for the first time in forever, I won't be alone"
Albedo stepped into the city and saw it buzzing about with life. He greeted and waved to others who were preparing for the festival. He was pleased to see the people going about their days happily.
"For the first time in forever, there'll be magic, there'll be fun" Albedo whispered in delight as he walked towards the headquarters for the knights, "For the first time in forever, I could finally be with my little sister"
He grinned at the idea of being with his little sister for the festival and began to imagine all of the fun activities they were going to have together. He grinned as he through about sharing desserts, creating wonderful experiments together, and going off on some adventures together.
"And I know it is unpredictable to even conjured up these events" Albedo whispered as he placed a hand to his head while smiling, "But for the first time in forever, at least I have this chance"
"We should head back to the headquarters" Sucrose whispered to Aether who nodded in reply.
They were making their way back to the headquarters for the knights.
"For the first time in forever!" Klee sang happily as she raised her hands and cheered
"Don't let them in, don't let them see" Albedo whispered as he looked at his gloved hands.
"I'm getting what I'm dreaming of!" she shouted in delight as her big brother whispered, "Be the alchemist you always know you are"
"A chance to be with him!" Klee shouted in delight as she turned her head to see Albedo walking towards them.
"Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know" Albedo whispered until he smiled at the sight of his little sister with Sucrose, the traveler, and Paimon.
"For the first time in forever, nothings in my way" the siblings sang with a grin as they were finally together again.
"Big brother Albedo!" Klee exclaimed as she jumped from Aether's shoulders and rushed to give him a warm hug.
"Hello again Klee" he said warmly and turned to his friends, "And hello again to you, traveler, Paimon, and Sucrose"
They waved to him as he picked up his little sister and smiled.
"Thank you for looking after Klee for me, but I will take it from here. She is my little sister, and she and I will be spending our time together at the festival" Albedo informed them.
Sucrose was a little sad to not be able to spend time with them, but Aether understood and took the gift Klee bought from Sucrose.
"Sure. Klee bought you this. Sucrose and I will go to Jean and see if she has anything she wants us to do for the festival" Aether reassured the siblings and motioned Sucrose to follow him and Paimon.
"O-oh! Yes! And if you do need anything, please let us know, Mr. Albedo. Have fun with Klee!" she exclaimed a little loudly before following Aether to the headquarters.
Albedo took the gift and examined it as Klee giggled in excitement.
"What did you get me, Klee?" Albedo asked curiously as she remained quiet as best as she could.
He pulled it out to see the alchemist set and grinned softly at it. He then patted her head as she giggled in reply.
"Thank you, Klee. It is a thoughtful gift. I am sorry that I didn't bring you anything. Well, let's walk around the marketplace. You can pick out anything you like" Albedo said with a grin as he put the set back in his bag.
"Oh, yay! Come on! I want you to see this awesome set of explosives one store was selling!" Klee said excitedly as she took his hand and pulled him to the marketplace.
Albedo could only smile as he let his little sister drag him to it.
"Do you think they will be ok?" Sucrose asked worriedly as she glanced back while Aether nodded his head in reply.
"Albedo and Klee don't get a chance to hang out as often as they would like" he explained warmly, "So, they should enjoy it"
He seemed a little sad as Sucrose and Paimon remained quiet. They entered the headquarters as they heard someone growling while another person was teasing the person who growled.
"Please! Let's just get along for the rest of the festival" Jean's voice shouted over them.
The trio shared a worried expression as they rushed to the officer's room and found Jean standing in the middle of the group. Diluc and Kaeya were present with Lisa shaking her head while Rosaria was tense. However, there was one person Aether and Paimon didn't recognize.
"Oh, he's back" Sucrose said nervously.
"Who?" Aether asked in a whisper as they were leaning away from the group.
"That's Dottore. When Master Diluc was gone, Dottore was the one who fought off the monsters that invaded our city" Sucrose explained nervously, "He must be here for the festival"
Aether and Paimon got a good look at Dottore. He wore a white lab coat that fancy and held a few pockets. He has pale hair and wore fancy shoes too.
"Paimon doesn't feel good about him" she whispered nervously.
Aether remained alert as he eyed Dottore.
"Well, I am done with my work for now. I cannot wait to see the festival as well" he said with a smirk to Diluc who seemed frustrated the most.
Dottore turned away as Aether finally got a good look at his face. He wore a white mask that only covered half of his face. His red eyes shined brightly with madness as he stepped away from them. He spared a single glance at the traveler before leaving.
"Paimon gets a feeling that this won't be the last we see of him" she whispered nervously as Aether nodded his head in agreement.
