Chapter 10: With Friends Like These
Yes! I am finally updating this book again! I finally have some inspiration to write this one again and I have an idea of how I want the next three and last chapters of this book to go. Yes, there are only three more chapters...maybe four. It really depends on how I want this to end.
January 3rd, 1480
You were a prodigy with a sword, to the surprise of Ezio and Mario. You were your father's daughter. He was a very skilled assassin. One of the best. Mario compared your fighting skills to your father's. You never even held a sword in your life and you were excellent with it. You even started to go with Ezio on missions. But you would feel guilty about leaving Teodora back at the villa.
You sometimes felt like a terrible mother to your child. But it was never for long though, but still; it killed you to leave your baby. It was necessary though. You wanted to do what you could to try to get rid of The Templars and to keep Teodora safe. You sometimes feard of what would happen if Lucia found out about your sweet little Teodora.
You pondered on what you were going to say to Lucia once you saw her again. You wanted so many answers on why she turned out the way she did. One day she was your best friend...the next, she was cold and heartless. You blamed Vieri. He corrupted Lucia and made her into this monster. You missed the days when you were children playing in the tall grass outside Firenze. Sometimes, when it was late at night, you and Lucia would try to scare each other with stories, which would end up in you and Lucia sharing her bed to make you feel safe.
Those days were over now. Never again will they happen.
Over the many months since the death of Francesco de Pazzi, you have helped Ezio track down and kill Jacopo de Pazzi's co-conspirators, Bernardo Baroncelli, Stefano da Bagnone, Francesco Salviati, and Antonio Maffei. Jacopo and his co-conspirators were hiding in San Gimignano and one of Jacopo's co-conspirators carried a letter that contained the location where Jacopo would be. This is what the letter said.
Brother,
As you've no doubt heard by now...they hunt us...in search of retribution. We should have never consented, never have conspired. But what's done is done. And so I have called a meeting with Maestro three nights from now to ask for sanctuary...either in Venezia or with him or in Roma.
We will assemble at the church in San Gimignano and travel to the meeting location at the appointed hour. I urge you to attend. Remaining here would be suicide. The Assassins are relentless. We cannot hope to stop him or her alone. But perhaps, aided by Maestro, we might buy ourselves the time to form a proper response.
Guard yourself well. Firenze may be lost to us, but it does not have to mean our end.
May the Father of Understanding guide you.
Your brother,
Jacopo
You and Ezio were standing on the roof of a builing that overlooked the very church that Jacopo wrote about in that very letter. You glance at Ezio and you place your hand on his shoulder as tou both see Jacopo come out of the church.
"If we can stay our blades long enough to follow him, he'll lead us to his Templar brothers. We'll have more names for our list..." Ezio tells you
"Lucia might be with them." You say with bitterness laced in your voice, "My chance to kill her."
"Don't let vengeance get in the way of our mission, amore mio," Ezio tells, making you scoff.
"You sound just like Mario." You shrug and you do a leap of faith into the pile of hay that was in a wheel barrel. Ezio rolls his eyes and does a leap of faith in the same pile of hay after you get out. You brush off any hay from your (f/c) assassin robes and you and Ezio follow Jacopo. As you both followed him, tou both found it strange that the other Templars weren't with him.
"What's going here? Are they late?" Ezio raises an eyebrow at you, "They haven't seen us, this much I know..."
"Maybe they are meeting him at wherever they arw having the meeting." You whisper. You and Ezio then continue to follow him.
"What are you and the others planning, Jacopo..." Ezio whispers and glares at the old man. As we were walking, Jacopo leaves the city walls of San Gimignano.
"His letter mentioned Venezia...Do you think the Templars are there as well?" You ask Ezio.
"I'm sure they are." Ezio nods. Jacopo then walks into an area with ancient Roman ruins. You and Ezio move to a spot where you both could overlook the meeting. You both saw how many people attended the meeting, "How many men are responsible for my father's death?" His expression was a mixture of shock and anger as he thinks about how many people could have been invaulved in his father's murder.
You then see a woman in a dark green dress standing next to an older cloaked man. You then see her golden blonde hair...Lucia. You press your lips together in a thin line and you clench your jaw. You saw her place her hand on the older man's shoulder as Jacopo walked towards them.
"I am sorry, Maesteo! I did all I could, but the Assassins proved too strong." Jacopo begs for forgiveness.
"Not enough it seems." Lucia chimes in and she glares at Jacopo. The mystery man waves her off and she obediently steps away from them.
"Clearly. Else the others would be here with you..." the 'Maestro' says with disappointed and anger, "To say nothing of the fact that Firenze remains in Medici hands."
"It's Francesco's fault!" Jacopo blames Francesco, "His impatience made him reckless. I tried to be the voice of reason-"
"More like the voice of cowardice." A man interupts Jacopo, making Jacopo scoff.
"You're one to talk, Signor Barbarigo. Had you sent us quality weapons, instead of garbage you Venetians call ar-"
"Enough!" The 'Maestro shouts at the two men. He then turns his attention back on Jacopo, "We put our faith in your family and you repay us with inaction and inconpetence." He raises his voice, making Jacopo cower in fear and Lucia smirk, "Then, when asked to account for your failures, you make excuses and insult us? How do you expect me to respond?"
"I don't know..." Jacopo mumbles, in shame. The 'Maestro' then puts his hand on his shoulder.
"It's alright. I do." He says and pulls out a dager and stabs Jacopo once in the stomach. Jacopo's eyes widen and he steps back.
"No...please...don't..." Jacopo begs out of fear. Lucia smirks and steps forward. Signor Barbarigo chuckles.
"Your incompetence can't go unpunished." Lucia tells him and she pushes the bleeding old man to the ground. He kneels on all fours and he reaches his hand up.
"I can fix this..." Jacopo begs, yet again and coughs, "Only, spare me..."
"No." The 'Maestro says darkly and pulls out his sword and stabs Jacopo through the neck. Yet, he was still alive, "What a mess." He comments as he looks at all of the blood on his sword, "So sorry to have claimed your prize, Assassin!" He shouts as he knew that you and Ezio were watchingthe whole thing.
Yours and Ezio's eyes widen and then four grab you and Ezio and they drag you towards the Maestro, Lucia and Signor Barbarigo. You and Ezio struggle to get out of their hold as they drag you both towards them. You then notice that the Maestro wore the red robes of a Cardinal.
"Did you honestly think I wouldn't expect you to follow? That I didn't PLAN for it?" He scoffs, "We've been at this a lot longer than you!" He then glances at the guards, "Kill them." He orders them and he walks away. He then noticed that Lucia wasn't following him, "Lucia!"
"I will be with you in a moment, Cardinal Borgia." He smiles at him and he continues to walk away. Lucia puts her hand up to the guards, signaling to the guards to not kill you and Ezio just yet.
She walks towards you and plances her hand on your cheek. You scrunch up your face and you move you look away from her. She smiles 'kindly' and sighs.
"My sweet sister...my milk and honey sister." She awes, "I'm sorry it had to come to this...you will see mama and papa soon." You breath heavily and you lunge at her, but the guards hold you back. Lucai scoffs and she punches you in the stomach. You groan in pain and you glare up at her, "That was not very kind of you." She shakes her head and tsks at you. You then kick her in the stomach. She gasps and glares at both you and Ezio, "Kill them!" She gives the guards permission to now kill you and Ezio and she walks away.
You then start to think about what would happen if both you and Ezio died tonight. Teodora wouldn't have parents...she would be an orphan. You wanted to cry at the thought of it...but you didn't. You weren't going to show weekness in front of these bastardos.
"I know you're only doing as you're told. So if you release us, we will spare your lives." Ezio tells them.
"Ha!" One of the guards laughs, "Listen to this one-" Ezio then takes the advantage and he pushes them away. You quickly stomp on one of the guard's feet and you kill the other with your hidden blade as they both release you. Ezio then runs towards the suffering Jacopo and he quickly assassinates him to end his suffering.
"Vai amico, libero da fardelli e paure. Requiescat in pace. (Go forward friend, unburdened and unafraid. Rest in peace.)" Ezio says and then Jacopo dies. You and Ezio then quickly run away from the guards.
Meanwhile, in Monteriggioni
Lucia sent a spy over to Monteriggioni and he disguised himself as one of Mario's men. He sneaks into the Auditore villa to gather any information as much information as he could. It was the middle of the night, so he was certain that he wouldn't be seen. He walks upstairs and thwn he overhears Claudia talking to Maria.
"I still can't believe little Teodora is Vieri de'Pazzi's daughter." Claudia scoffs, "she is nothing like him...such a sweet little baby." The spy smirks. He knew that Lucia would want that baby. He knew that she would want anything that was of Vieri's. He then goes to search for Teodora. He walks around and finds a crib in one of the rooms and a large bed.
He looks into the crib and sees the sleeping baby. She looked about a year old. He carefully picks her up so that he wouldn't wake her up. He wraps her in her blanket to keep her warm. He then quickly walks out of the room and out of the villa so that he wouldn't be seen. He sneaks out of the city and he gets on his horse, that was when Teodora started crying. The spy quickly gets his horse moving and he travels all the way to Firenze, where he knew that Lucia would be back there so she could pack her things to go to Roma.
Timeskip
Lucia was back at the de'Pazzi villa, packing some of her dresses when her spy walked in. He had handed Teodora to one of the guards. She smiles at the spy.
"So, what have you learned?" She asks him as she stop packing.
"Vieri de'Pazzi had a child with your sister...a girl named Teodora." He tellz her. Lucia's smile fell.
"My Vieri had a child with her?" She presses her lips into a thin line, "she should be mine....I want the child brought to me!"
"I thought you would say that." He smirks and he calls in the guard thst he gave the baby to, "I already got her." Lucia smiles as she sees her niece. The guard then hands Teodora to her and she holds her in her arms.
"Did anyone see you?" She asks him as she looks at the baby's features. She noticed Teodora's dark brown hair and her hazel-blue eyes the had some green around the pupil area.
"No." The spy tells her.
"Good." Lucia says and she Teodora's forehead, "You said her name is Teodora?"
"Yes."
"I'm going to change her name..." Lucia says.
"What will her new name be?" The spy asks.
"Juliet de'Pazzi."
