Chapter 10

Tony, knowing that he can't figure this out on his own, decided to call Pepper. It took a few rings, but she eventually answered.

"What do you want Tony? I was in a meeting and if this is about that conversation I told you that we would talk about it in person," She said sternly through the phone.

"Um, no. I actually need help with something." When he didn't get a response he took that as a cue to continue. "The boys have this thing that I agreed on and is all set up for school. They're gonna be in two groups and rotate school every few months between New York and Gotham. But I can't be in both places at once. I need to find adult supervision, but someone who knows how to handle children," Tony explained his dilemma to her.

"You also have to find someone who's willing to live in Gotham," she reminded him.

"Yeah. That too," Tony agreed.

"Well. Clint has a family, so he might be able to watch over them sometimes, but for the most part, he's out. Natasha is free. I wouldn't leave Bruce fully alone with them, from what I've observed of their eccentricity. Thor should never be left alone with children. I guess that really just leaves Steve. Steve and Natasha would be your best choice," Pepper told him after some thought.

"Thanks, Pepper. . .for everything. You're the best," Tony told her.

Not knowing how to respond she said thank you and hung up.

"Well now I know who can stay with them, now I just need to figure out if they're up for the challenge. Of course, they're going to have Alfred with them so they won't have to do much. Then I have to check on Peter," Tony thought aloud to himself as he went to go and find the two avengers.

After some searching, he found them in a gym. Steve was doing some lifting as Natasha was watching him; keeping an eye in case he drops it.

"Ay the number one superhero team-up I was looking for," Tony said as he walked into the room. Steve stopped lifting and put the weights back as Natasha looked at him.

"You want something," Steve said as it was obvious.

"I don't want anything," Tony tried to fight, but at the look, the two gave him he failed. "Would either or more preferably both of you be okay to live in the mansion with two of the boys and Alfred while the rest of us go back to New York?" Tony asked them.

"Why would we stay in Gotham of all places?" Natasha asked.

"Because the boys don't want to leave their home, but they also want to give New York a try so they came up with a system that would allow them to do both, but they need some adults to watch them and I don't trust them to live by themselves," Tony said.

The two gave each other looks and after a debate, they agreed, "Yeah we'll stay and watch over them," Natasha said as Tony thanked the both of them.

"Sorry, but I gotta go and find Peter!," Tony yelled at them a few minutes later as he ran out of the room.

"Well he has his hands full," Steve said as he was still staring at where Tony was yelling.

"Can't blame him. No matter how suspicious those boys are Tony instantly went from a father of one to five," Natasha said as they went back to exercising.

It took a lot more looking around before Tony finally decided to check the room that Peter was staying in.

He Knocked a few times and made sure to wait until he heard the "Come in," before he opened the door.

As Tony walked in he made sure to shut the door behind him as he noticed Peter set his laptop aside and pull his headphones down.

"Hey Pete," Tony said as he sat down in the computer chair. "I just wanted to say sorry that we haven't had time to talk about everything going on.

"It's fine. I mean I know you're busy trying to get the others back on track," Peter said.

"But that's not an excuse to neglect you. I would like to say that tomorrow we could spend the day together, but I don't trust Gotham that much, but how about when we're back home we spend a whole day around New York? Just us," Tony suggested.

"That sounds great, but I mean if I l have to live with them now then I feel like we should spend time with them as well. I'm not saying that a day with just you and me in New York would be bad, but I mean. They know Gotham. Right? Maybe all of us can go and spend the day in Gotham?" Peter asked.

"I can't guarantee anything Petey, but I can see what I do and what the news says," Tony says as he pats Peter's head and walks out.

As Tony opened Peter's door they both heard Jason screaming at someone.

"YOU STUPID IDIOT!"

JASON'S POV

Jason was having a good day based on everything that's been happening. Sure he knew that he would be getting calls from his friends after Barbra showed up and started spreading the news that their good to talk, but he was not ready for the news that he was about to get.

"Sup Roy," Jason said into his phone

"Hey, Jay! Heard that you are doing okay since the funeral," Roy greeted nervously.

"I'm doing fine," Jason said tired from the conversation already, but it was nothing against Roy; it was the tone of his voice that he was using.

"Ey that's good that's good," Roy said, trying to get away from the topic of conversation he needs to have.

"Roy I don't have time for this so spit it out," Jason said getting fed up. Roy wasn't offended, after all, he knows how Jason works.

"So Jade might have just visited me and I may have gotten her pregnant," Roy said, getting quiet as he finished his sentence.

Jason took a deep breath after hearing that statement "YOU STUPID IDIOT," Jason yelled at him.

"I know! I know! I know!," Roy said into the phone quickly, as a way to calm his friend down.

Jason just pinched the bridge of his nose as he saw Tony and Peter staring at him. "Listen I got to go. We'll meet up later so I can yell at you for being an idiot and you can have a plan," Jason told him as he hung up.

"Everything okay?" Tony asked him.

"Everything's fine. My best friend is just an idiot," Jason answered as Damian walked past in that second.

"That's an understatement," Damian said passively with no emotion.

"You little brat," Jason yelled at him, but that was all he did.

"While I have at least half of you here. Tomorrow we might be spending the day in Gotham as some bonding time, so if you have any safe and nondeadly ideas let me know," Tony told them as he went off to inform the other boys. After all, this day was meant for just the six of them.

"I'll inform Pennyworth," Damian said as he walked in the opposite direction of Tony

"Safe and nondeadly ideas?" Jason questioned to himself as he was left alone with Peter.

"Well this is awkward," Peter said after they both stood there for a minute in silence.

"Awkward for you. I got things to do," Jason said as he started to walk away.

"Wait!" Peter yelled at him causing Jason to stop.

"What do you want?" Jason asked annoyed.

"I was thinking that maybe- or well I thought that we could maybe hang out. . .you know since we're gonna be living together and all?" Peter asked, unsure of himself in his question.

Jason smiled at the slightly younger teen in front of him, "Listen, I'm not really in the mood today. If you really want to spend some "quality time" together then can it be another day?" Jason asked, putting quality time in quotations, as he started to walk back to his room.

"Uh yeah okay," Peter said as he watched Jason walk away. . .until he remembered that his room was in the same direction as Jason's.

PETER'S POV

Peter sighed as he quietly walked back to his room, Jason not that far ahead of him.

'I'm never gonna get them to like me, ' Peter thought as he saw Jason enter his room.

Peter kept walking, a little slower since he was lost in thought, as he passed Jason's room he noticed that the door was cracked.

Peter, knowing that he shouldn't, but did. Peter quietly opened Jason's door a little bit more to see what he was doing.

'What is he doing,' Peter thought to himself as he saw Jason grab something out of his desk drawer and then walked over to his window and sit in it.

Peter once again knew that he shouldn't, but as he saw Jason light the cancer filled stick and bring it to his lips he just had to barge in.

"STOP!" Peter yelled at him as Jason turned to him in surprise.

"What the fuck are you doing in my room!?" Jason asked shocked.

"I just-nevermind! You shouldn't be smoking. It's bad for you," Peter told him sternly.

"Well duh. Obviously," Jason said back as he rolled his eyes.

"But those things could kill you," Peter said with a sad expression on his face, and though he tried to hide it, Peter saw a brief flash of fear on the other boy's face.

"Everybody's gotta die of something," Jason said, making sure to not let it show that dying really actually bothered him.

"But-" Peter tried to continue, but Jason Stopped him with his hand.

"Just stop. I know you're supposed to be a friendly neighborhood Spiderman and all that, but take this as a lesson: you can't save everyone from everything," Jason told him.

"I know that I can't, but I can at least try! Right?" Peter asked unsure.

"To be truthful, no. Everyone dies of something, heroes like you, your job is to make sure they live longer and don't die from something stupid," Jason told him, slowly working on his cigarette.

"You sound like you speak from experience," Peter told him.

"I do," Jason said, but when Peter kept looking at him for five minutes he decided to continue. "Before Bruce came along I was living in the slums of Gotham. I had a deadbeat drunk for a dad and my mother overdosed on drugs more than once. I was set out when I was young more than once to collect money, whether it be used for rent, drugs, or food I would never know. To put it simply I tried to steal from Batman and when I told him why the big mean and scary bat, bought me fast food and it was and still is one of the best meals I ever ate. Not for the flavor but because of the memory itself.

Batman got me out of a bad situation and because of how many times he rescued Dick from being kidnapped he introduced Bruce to me. Bruce took me in and raised me. I became a Gotham elite overnight, so yeah I did get saved. If Batman never came along when he did I would either be a druggie, a worse one than I am now at least, or dead," by the time he finished his story he also finished his cigarette.

After a minute of silence, Jason took a moment to look at Peter and he was shocked, "uh are you okay?" Jason asked him, trying to avoid the tears that are sure to spill.

"It's just- that's so sad. I'm glad that you're here Jason," Peter told him, wiping his eyes clean of tears, but Jason couldn't stop the hug that Peter gave him.

"Listen I don't do tears, so instead of crying and getting sad over my horrible past let's go play some video games," Jason suggested and Peter happily agreed with a smile.

"How's Super Smash Bros Ultimate sound?" Jason asked as he held up two controllers.

"That sounds great," Peter said, happily taking the second controller.

That's how the rest of the day was spent and if when Alfred went into Jason's room to get him for dinner but instead saw the two laughing over the game, well who is he to stop them and instead sneakily leave some snacks on Jason's bed, and if he was to sneak a few pictures for his family photo album, well then that's just his business.

The next chapter won't be up for awhile because I have finals to study for but I hope you enjoyed Pete's first bonding with the bats!
