Some Substance
It was a long morning for Angelo, more like a long night too. He had spent the entire two hours since he woke up thinking about the night they had, wondering why she had suddenly disappeared from his side before he woke up.
Facing her wasn't what he was worried about. Facing the Anna he had always known, the Anna that always asked him to stay away from her, that was terrified him because after what had happened, Angelo knew he couldn't ever leave, leaving her was going to be almost impossible. He was so attached to this woman now. He was sure of it. There was no way in hell he was ever going to let her push him away again.
"Good morning sir Angelo."
Angelo noticed the snickering on the faces of the maids as they walked past him.
That was weird.
How loud exactly was he and Anna the day before anyway? He could feel his cheeks reddening just thinking about it. He had lost counts of how many rounds they went. All he knew was they kept switching places, it was the living room, and then the dining, the shower, and everywhere else. It was a crazy night, the most crazy experience of his life and it was no surprise if the whole house knew too. That was one thing about being with Anna, there were no boundaries. He was free.
He took a deep breath.
Breakfast!
He was starving.
Angelo checked his wrist watch, twenty something minutes past eight. There was no way Anna was going to be home that late, it had to explain why she left without even saying a word to him.
Was she embarrassed? Did she regret it? Was she going to lash out on him at the office again?
Angelo exhaled. He walked into the dining room.
"Good morning."
Angelo froze for a while, holding his breath as he narrowed his gaze on the table in front of him. He didn't understand a thing he saw but that smirk, that smirk on her face, it was something he never dreamed of seeing the moment he walked into the dining area. The table was filled with every dish he could think about, they were his favorites too.
"I'd take it from here."
She said.
Angelo looked at her closely. Why was she still in her night dress? Why wasn't she halfway at the office already?
"H-hey."
He greeted back trying to wrap his head around the entire scene as the maid walked away with a large smile on her face. She bowed as she walked past him.
"Well, have a seat. You're about to drool all over breakfast." Angelo scoffed. If this was a dream, he surely didn't want to wake from it. He walked slowly to the large seat at the head of the table while Anna walked towards him with a plate filled with pancakes.
She placed some slices into his plate.
"You look awfully suprised."
Angelo looked at her. He was blushing from ear to ear, it had to be embarrassing for a grown man like him. He shook his head.
"I wasn't just expecting - I thought you already left."
"Why would you think that?" Anna dropped the plate and took a seat beside him.
Angelo raised a brow, pursing his lips like he was trying to stop himself from being too shy about the situation.
"I honestly have no idea." he scratched his forehead. "When I didn't find you next to me after I woke up, I just thought it like that. You've never really stayed home by this time."
Angelo poured himself a glass of water and took a drink. Angelo shook his head with his lips still in his glass cup.
"True." She said. "But I was feeling generous today, I just thought I'd wake earlier and make you breakfast-"
Angelo turned around and spat the water in his mouth out before he chocked. She hurried to him immediately with a napkin, concern laced on her face and in her eyes too.
"Oh my goodness, are you okay?"
She took the initiative to rub his back in case he had chocked on the water.
Angelo nodded, coughing hard. He almost did.
Did Anna just say she made him breakfast? He turned to the table. How on earth did she have the time to do all that. He raised his head to look at her.
Anna exhaled weakly.
"It's ridiculous isn't it?" She rubbed her forehead. "It's too much?"
"N-No."
"Did I try to hard? Am I freaking you out?"
"No. That's not-" Angelo took a deep breath. It was pointless explaining with just words, she was probably not going to understand what he meant, understand that he didn't mean it like that. He exhaled
"Come here." He reached for her arm and pulled her closer to him so she sat gently on his legs.
"You're not ridiculous and you're definitely not freaking me out." He had to explain. I'm just not used to this, it's just- I guess I never thought you-" he paused for a minute, looking into her eyes, there were just as sincere as they had ever been. He was weakened once again to his knees.
"Thank you." he told her.
Anna smiled. Her entire face had gone red immediately. She couldn't explain it but she was a tad bit embarrassed at the thought of it, at the thought of what she was doing. Was this really it? Was she really going to take his hand? Was she really going to be brave about how she felt for him? Was she ready to embrace him and her feelings for him? She just didn't know. Anna didn't know but whatever it was that she was feeling at that moment, she liked it. She liked how different she felt, she liked the thought of testing this new water she had dipped herself into.
"What?" She asked him, after noticing how long it was taking him to stop staring at her. He shook his head.
"I'm just thinking." he said. "I'm just wondering if this real, if this isn't just a dream. I just want to know if this is what we're doing now, if this is it, If It's going to be like this tomorrow and the day after that. You're not going to run away, push me away again?"
Anna chuckled.
"What do you think?"
He shrugged.
Anna exhaled. She slowly reached for Angelo's hands.
"I know I've been very difficult, and really unlivable. It'd be hard to believe me but this is it, this is me. I want this to work, I want to try to make this work. I'm ready to do whatever this is with you, if you'd let me."
Angelo was numb, to say he was dumbfounded was the least of emotions he felt. This was everything he had always wanted, everything he had always hoped for.
" Anna, -are you sure?" She furrowed her brows. "I mean, a lot of people aren't going to be happy about this. I want this too Anna, more than you know." He scoffed and then paused. He took his hand from her and placed it on hers.
"You're not going to regret this in the end are you?"
Anna shook her head.
"No regrets." Anna raised her fingers so Angelo could see her diamond studded wedding ring.
Angelo exhaled.
"You kept it?" He looked rather impressed. "I honestly thought you threw yours away."
She lowered her head to him and placed her forehead on his, holding still for a minute and shut her eyes, she drew a deep breath.
"You know nothing Angelo Trusk." She whispered to him. Angelo had his eyes closed to, he was taking her in, all of her. He could feel his heart racing even more when he felt her fingers reach his face like they were dancing on it. He gulped hard. At that point, it was hard to want anything else besides her. She was doing things to him, a lot of things that he could not explain, a lot of things that his body could not explain nor resist. It was like that with her, no boundaries. It was almost like he wasn't human. Every sense was heightened, every touch, it was like he could feel his body hairs stand straight on his skin each time he felt her breath on his face.
His breathing was getting so ragged and it was hard to think of anything else. Angelo's breathing was loud, she could hear it, his heart beat.
"We should get out of here." He told her, finally opening his eyes.
"What about breakfast?" Anna asked him softly, pretending like she cared about breakfast. She just wanted him, she just needed him, at that moment she wanted all of it. Her entire emotions were heightened and it was like she was loosing her mind.
"Fuck breakfast."
He wrapped his hands around her waistline and pulled her up, managing to get up to his feet too. Anna held on tight to him. She wanted what he did, her breathing was unsteady under his touch, that was how she knew , that was how she knew how much she needed him. How much she wanted him. Angelo jerked her up so she wrapped her legs around him and then she sought his lips while he carried her with him, unsure of where they needed to go.
If this was it, he didn't want it to end, as long as she was holding on to him like that, he was never going to let go.
He loved this woman, he was in love with this woman,
With all of her.
