long Secrets
"A secret account?"
Anna exhaled. She slowly grabbed her mug of coffee from her table as she rose it to her lips.
"And you're sure it's not Angelo's?"
She thought for a while, taking tiny sips from her warm coffee. She rose her gaze to meet Shink's who just stood across her table with a really shocked look on his face. Ever since Anna had told him about the secret account, his anxiety was off the roof. It was a lot to take in.
"Why would Angelo have a secret account?"
Anna had to ask as she took another sip from her coffee not taking her eyes away from his.
"Have you asked him?"
"Of course not. What am I going to say?" She rose her brows. "Hey Angelo, I found out your Mum has a secret account and it happens that it's still in use and could be in use for some sort of secret operation to find a terrorist organization, are you the one using it?"
Shink exhaled. Anna did make sense. How was she supposed to break the news to Angelo without sounding crazy?
"Besides, I don't think I'm one of the people Angelo would love to talk to about his family right now ."
"Huh?" Shink whispered leaning closer so he could hear her properly. What did she mean? Anna looked away. She wasn't sure she knew how to explain it, what happened on the hill but Shink knew. He could read her like a book. He exhaled weakly.
"Anna, you can't be fighting with Angelo. Not at a time like this. We can't afford to. We need him if we're going to have access to level forty five. We need him to find the black city and report back to the G-unit." He whispered.
"Do you think I don't know that?"
Anna whispered back.
Why on earth were they whispering?
There was no one else in the room besides them.
Anna rolled her eyes. How on earth could Shink make conclusions when he didn't know half of the story. When he didn't know half of what was going on? There was a reason why she wasn't putting so much effort. If Shink knew that reason, he'd probably not push her so hard.
"Angelo is in love with me Shink."
At this point, whispers were useless.
"What?"
"And I literally told him to kiss my ass when I found out. He told me about his feelings and I told him I didn't care about how it. I said a lot of hurtful things and I think I must have hurt his feelings. Now he's rebelling. He won't talk to me or look at me." She exhaled and rose a hand to rub her forehead. "I screwed things up really badly Shink."
"Well do you?"
Anna rose her gaze back to him, trying to understand the correlation between the sentences.
"Do I what?"
"Like him?"
"Of course not."
She snapped. Shink exhaled in relief.
He nodded his head, that was good. That was good news. He was glad with the answer she gave him and Anna could see it. She knew how it was forbidden for her people to like one of them, one of the humans. Both people have been at war for centuries, one suppressed and oppressed by the other. Having feelings for a human as an Atian, could make her lose her people's trust in her.
He examined Anna's eyes just to be sure. Anna's gaze was firm on his. It looked almost honest. Shink rubbed his temples and let out a shaky breath.
"We need him Anna. You need to figure out a way to settle whatever it is you have with him. We can't do nothing without him. We are stranded at this point. It's obvious Angelo is linked to all of this. He is the missing piece we need. He's the answer to all of it. We have to do anything to get to where we should."
Anna lowered her gaze on the table, tapping her pen on it. Shink was right. She could not afford to be on Angelo's bad side at that moment. He was an important key to getting all they had worked hard for.
She looked at Shink.
" You told him about André? " Before she forgot to bring that up.
Shink stared at her. He wasn't suprised she found out.
He exhaled.
"Why did you tell him Shink?"
"Yeah what was I supposed to do? He wanted the truth and to be honest, he had every right to know. We've had almost every one in the family thinking you killed André."
"I thought we talked about this? I really don't care what anyone thinks especially the Trusks. You just made everything more complicated."
She rolled her eyes
"Now anytime he looks at me, he's going to see me as this fragile Atian the whole world has the wrong idea of. He's going to pity me and do all he can to protect me because he's too sentimental and I can't have anyone treat me like I'm some pityful woman that needs saving. He's starting to think I'm holding back because of André."
"Anna, what Angelo or anyone else feels about you right now should be the least of your problems. Of our problems. We have a lot of things to think about right now and you need to make another contact with the G-Unit."
Anna rolled her eyes as she rubbed her arms together. She was beginning to get tired of hearing any word that had a G or unit in it.
"Did Gina tell you anything about what's going to happen after we have access to level forty-five?"
Anna shook her head slowly
"Not exactly. All she said was that she and her team would take it from there. She also said something about a secret weapon."
"A secret weapon?" Shink frowned.
"What's that? Like a deactivating device or a bomb?"
"She didn't get into details."
"Did you even ask?"
She lowered her brows and curved her lips in disbelief
"Did you think I'd even miss that? Of course I did. 'you'd know everything in due time Anna.' that was all I got."
Shink exhaled. All of it was getting super frustrating.
"I don't know Shink, I feel like something is not right."
Shink looked at her.
"All my life I always believed that I was supposed to lead the unit, be a part of them. I worked so hard to find them and now I have, it's like I'm not even a part of their cause. It's like they are hiding so much from me. It's like I'm lost in whatever this is."
"Patience Anna."
Shink told her. "It's just like Gina said. you'd know everything in due time. Don't rush it."
Anna pouted.
"I need to go."
Shink got up to leave. He grabbed his briefcase from the sofa behind him.
"Go?" Anna asked confused. "Shink I've got a meeting with Jo Jo housing and estate in like two hours. I need my lawyer."
"I'd make it in time for the meeting, I promise. I just need to make a quick visit."
Anna was calm a little.
"W-where are you going?"
"To the arc. I need to speak to your brother."
Anna could feel a tight grip on her heart. The sound of that word 'brother' made her heart skip several beats. She could feel the muscles in it tighten up. It was like she was trying so hard to breathe now.
"I need to update him about what just happened. I need everyone to know we are making progress."
Anna exhaled.
"D-do you have to?"
She had no idea when she let those words out of her mouth. She shook her head.
"I mean c-cant it wait?"
Why on earth was she stammering?
Shink exhaled.
"You know you can't keep running from the arc or your brother Anna."
"I'm not running. Who said I was?"
"Sooner or later you'd have to meet your brother face to face. You'd be the one to liberate us all. And you can't do that by running away from him, from all of them."
Anna got up quickly. She hurried as fast as she could to The window slides. She needed to breathe. She took a deep breath of air from the window and then another.
She turned to Shink slowly.
"I'm not running from anything Shink. I just have a lot on my plate right now. Everything I'm doing, I'm doing it for them. They should understand if I've not had the time to make a quick visit. And it's not like I can just walk into the Arc when I like or send them letters. Once you're out, you're out remember? No going back. We were just lucky you found a way to go in there sometimes."
"Everything You're doing, You're doing it for all of us." He corrected. Anna held her breath. "I'd see you in two hours."
Shink slowly grabbed on tightly to his briefcase and walked out of the large office.
Anna rubbed her forehead.
Shink was right. She was a big part of this too.
She exhaled. She was more than a big part of it.
