Dust

I woke up with a knock on my door.

I opened my eyes and looked around a bit. it took me a second to remember last night and then the memories came flooding back. the second date, Alice and Frost, Vertigo, Elsa's look and Robin.

The next knock made me get up and realize I was only wearing my jeans. I walked towards the door and opened it to find Elsa standing there.

-"Sorry, did I wake you up?" she asked even though she didn't seem that sorry.

-"Uh kinda...what's up?" I said rubbing my eyes.

-"Well my dad wants to see you right now... unless you're not alone in that room and need some time..." she said, looking at me funny.

-"If I got what you mean and I know I do, Robin went home last night. I'm alone."

-"Good then. put on a shirt and get downstairs." she said and walked away. I rolled my eyes and closed the door. I took a look outside to see it was still snowing. I headed to the bathroom and washed my face to wake up and put on the first black t shirt I found and walked out.

I got downstairs and straight into Alpha's room. he was standing in front of the window and looking out at the snow with his back to me.

-"You wanted to see me sir?" I said and he turned around.

-"oh Dust. sorry to wake you up but it was urgent." he said, turning around.

-"Its ok I was up anyway... what's urgent?"

-"I've been thinking about the party and...there's something bothering me. something's wrong."

-"What is it? is it about the Elsa getting married? have you decided on that?"

-"Not that. something else. something about you."

-"Me...?" my heart started beating fast and thought he had figured out about Robin.

-"How did he know you were my Beta?" he asked.

-"Huh?" I asked surprised.

-"How did Liam know? he never saw you before. the last time I saw him was for Alex and Elsa's christening and you still hadn't come to us back then and he never met you. yet when you sat at the table he asked if I always shared a table with my Beta."

-"He could have guessed...."

-"Impossible. before you, Franklin was my Beta. he knew that and as far as I know he has no idea Franklin has died. besides, you know Betas don't sit with Alphas unless they're asked to and couldn't have guessed you were a Beta unless he knew."

-"...He talked to me when he came in. he knew I was the Beta the moment he came in. I greeted him and he said I was the Beta and turned to Alex! he knew it!"

-"But how?"

-"..." I stayed silent, not having an answer.

-"You do know what this means right?" he asked.

-"You mean... there could be a spy here?" I asked. he sighed.

-"I didn't want to come to this conclusion... but yes. I think someone's spying on us."

-"What are we gonna do?"

-"There's nothing we can do but to look for them. in the meantime we have to be very very careful with what we say. if there is a spy, we're at a greater danger than we thought."

-"I'll find them sir. I'll find them and deal with them."

-"I know you will and I'm counting on you to do it fast. the only people I trust in this mansion is you, Alex and Elsa. don't trust anyone else and tell them about this too. any day now Liam's gonna call and ask if I'd decided on the wedding yet."

-"....Is there gonna be a wedding?" there was a moment of silence before he turned back to window

-"You must understand what dangerous time this is Dust. we're weak and easily vulnerable. so, I must consider that as one and possibly my only option."

-"But sir, Elsa is-"

-"I know. an arranged marriage is not exactly what I had planned for her either. but if Liam decided to attack and get our pack, he will kill. like he had always done. he will kill anyone who tries to stop him from getting this pack and there's another problem: people."

-"People?"

-"Liam hates humans and his pack is settled in an all werewolf town and community. if he attacks us, not only he will kill werewolves but humans too. he will do it to get this pack or he'll do it just for fun. so, for the sake of everyone in this town I must consider the wedding as an option."

I looked down. at the moment, the only thing I could think of was Robin and how she would get hurt if there was a war coming.

-"I....understand sir."

-"Good to know there's someone who understands. I can't tell Elsa this yet but you, I trust you with my life."

-"It's an honor sir." I said.

-"Go have your breakfast now, and don't forget what I told you. no one can be trusted."

I nodded and slowly headed out of the office and closed the door. as soon as I did, someone grabbed my shoulders and pulled me in a hallway.

-"Hey!"

-"Easy its me!" Elsa said.

-"Elsa! are you crazy?! I thought someone broke in!"

-"It's just me ok?"

-"Jeez..." I said, taking a breath in.

-"So is it true?" she asked.

-"Is what true?"

-"You know..." she looked around. "the spy!" I narrowed my eyes.

-"you were listening?"

-"I might of overheard it... so what? daddy says he trusts me."

-"I don't care! it doesn't mean you can just listen to everything talk about."

-"Are you gonna blame me all the day or are you gonna tell me about that spy!" she said and crossed her arms.

-"Stop saying spy. and no, I'm not gonna tell you."

-"What? why? daddy said-"

-"I don't care what daddy said. just because he trusts you doesn't mean I have to."

-"oh so now you're saying I'm untrustworthy?" she said.

-"Well for one thing eavesdropping on us doesn't make me want to trust you!"

-"Oh like I can trust you! brining people in for movie nights! what's your deal with the human girl?"

-"People? as I recall you invited her to an all werewolf party in the first place! why did you do that?"

-"I..."

-"Distract me? is that it? maybe you actually liked Ignis boy after all."

-"What?" she said.

-"And maybe he got under your skin. maybe he asked you for a little favor of telling everything that happens in your daddy's office to his uncle and-"

She cut me off by slapping me. I was shocked and looked at her to see her eyes as I held my cheek.

-"H-how can you even say that?! how could I? that night was the first time I even met him and Alpha Liam already knew who you are so how could I have told him anything?! I can't believe you think I'm..."

-"Elsa-"

-"You're supposed to trust me and have my back! instead you think I'm spying on my own dad and my brother and pack for a guy I don't even know?!"

-"Maybe not on them but what about me?! maybe you're not spying on them but what reason could you give me that you're not spying on me?"

-"Are you seriously-"

-"Yes! I'm seriously asking this and you know why? because you keep saying stuff like 'my' dad wants to see you. 'my' daddy trusts me. I never spy on 'my' dad and 'my' brother! you don't even say our dad! or my brothers! no! it's your family and your dad! even that night at the party, you introduced me as your step brother and mentioned that we're not related! why is that? is it because any other reason that you don't want me as your family? because of this?" I pointed at the my streak of white hair.

She looked at me angrily while a tear was streaming down her cheek.

-"Don't talk to me, don't come in my room...I don't wanna see or hear you now or possibly ever!" she yelled and stormed off upstairs.

I stood there panting for a while, staring at where she used to stand before growling and heading towards the front door. I opened it and stepped in the snow covered garden and shifted to my wolf and ran straight in the forest. I could feel the snow and cold early morning wind on my muzzle and fur but that didn't stop me. I ran and ran deeper in the forest until I finally stopped at a hilltop under an oak tree and sat down.

This is where I came when I was angry or sad or just wasn't myself. I discovered it when I was a kid and it became my hideout. it was on the edge of a hill and I could see the whole town and forest around it.

I laid down and rested my head on my paws and tried to forget my terrible morning. but something scary just wouldn't leave me alone. if there really was a spy in the mansion, then they could have figured out that I have a mate and that she's a human. this was something that I couldn't tell Alpha and could risk our safety. they could easily get to her and use her as a hostage if they were gonna attack.

I closed my eyes at the thought of them attacking the town to get the pack. I knew having a human mate could cause me trouble but this was something I could never dream of. if anything was going to happen to her...

I growled at this thought. I just looked at the sky and the snow. and then I knew there was nothing I could do to keep us from being mates. I wasn't gonna tell her anything about it, in case that it would risk her safety. but I will look after her and protect her from any harm that may come to her because of me.

I made this promise to myself and looked up at the sky and the snow. maybe even sometime I could come out to her. when it's all set and done, maybe we could be together. but even I knew that's probably never gonna happen.
