The Sketch
Dust
-"This a bad idea mate." Alex said while sitting on my bed.
The dinner went well, just as planned and we were supposed to think over Alpha Liam's proposal. the next day I sent all the staff for their Christmas vacation and all except a few who lived in mansion, left. I, however spent all day checking clock every five minutes for 9 o'clock. I was both hoping that t would go slower and faster. I still didn't know if I made the right decision to see her again but I couldn't ditch her...and I'm not sure if I wanted to.
-"That's the 4th time you said it!" I said as I walked out of bathroom, my hair soaking wet from the shower and I was only wearing a jeans."why are you so against me going to her place?"
-"I'm not! You are! YOU said you didn't want a mate and most definitely not a human one! YOU said you were gonna reject her! and now YOU wanna go on a date with her!"
-"It's not a date!" I said while opening my wardrobe, looking for something to wear.
-"Yes it is! it's date! you either don't know it or you're in denial but I'm telling you... it's a date!"
-"So what! she asked me to!" I said as I looked at a black t shirt.
-"And you suddenly lost your excellent ability to reject something. I wonder how you're gonna reject her if you can't even reject a date." he lied down on my bed.
-"I'm gonna reject her just... in the right moment."
-"Dude why don't you just face it? you like this girl. and why shouldn't you? I like her and I haven't even talked to her yet! and she's your mate you're supposed to be a mate to her!"
-"I don't like her! ...I mean I do but not in that way!" I said while throwing some clothes on my bed.
-"Then why are you going to her house?"
-"To watch my favorite movie with my mat-... Friend! just a friend! now would you please just shut up and help me pick something?" I said as I pointed at the pile of clothes on my bed.
-"Why do you need my help?" he said.
-"I don't know! you're a better dresser than I am! I usually just pick up a jeans and t shirt."
-"And why exactly do you need me to pick you something fancy and nice for a movie night with Miss just a friend?" he asked smirking and I growled at him. "ok ok, don't wolf out on me for telling the truth. I'll get something for you and you go take care of that horror of a hair." he said as he started to look through my clothes.
I walked back in bathroom and looked at myself. I didn't actually know what to do with my hair. I always liked it the way it was but I didn't know now. I tried not to think that I didn't know what she likes. I ran my hands through my hair on both sides to smooth them back and to calm it a little and for a little bit it worked. still it looked a bit messy but the front looked rather presentable. I looked at that white streak for a second and thought about how Alpha Liam looked at it last night. I couldn't tell if he figured out something about me or not but I didn't like the way he looked at me.
I stepped out of bathroom and took a look at Alex.
-"Any result?" I said.
-"I found some stuff." he said and pointed at the pieces of clothes he had picked out. I was checking them while he put the rest in my wardrobe. finally I decided on a jeans and a sky blue cotton shirt. I put them on along with a dark blue tie. to look more like myself, I didn't tie the tie hard enough and left the top button on my shirt open.
-"Dust, is this yours?" Alex said.
-"What is?" I turned to look at him, holding Robin's red scarf. my eyes widened a bit. "I um..."
-"It's hers isn't it? it's Robin's." he said.
-"It may be..." I said, rubbing back of my neck. he just looked at me for a second and put it down on my bed without saying anything.
-"Alex what is it? no sarcasm? no playing big brother and giving me pointers?"
-"Dust...you really like this girl. I don't know if you know it or no, but you do. and she's your mate. you don't know how lucky you are sometimes. some people search their whole lives for their mate and don't find it." he said smiling. "Just give it shot, and be a good boy!" he said the last part with a smirk and walked out of my room. I didn't even smiled at that point. I guess I was afraid that he was right about this and I'm not sure if I didn't want him to be.
I put my coat and scarf on and walked out of mansion and in the cold weather of outside. it was already dark and slightly snowing but I didn't want to take the car so I just started walking. I walked down the hill and towards town, thinking about what I'm gonna say and how I'm gonna act around my mate all night.
Her home address was not that far, just a few blocks in the town. I walked through the town and looked at the Christmas lights on houses and their window lights. I didn't come to town often but when I did, I took the best of it. I always liked this town and specially in Christmas time, it looked like a village from one of Grimm's fairytales. not many people were in street that night. I made my way through and blocks and finally found her house.
It was an almost narrow three story building with red bricks and a black pitched roof that had a round window in the middle of it. I approached and pressed the third and last doorbell next to the entrance door. just a few seconds later the door opened and I walked in. I didn't see an elevator in the lobby so I made my way upstairs to third floor and saw her at the only door on the floor.
She was wearing a dark blue tight jeans and a red t-shirt with a grey cardigan over it. her auburn hair wasn't wavy anymore and hanged on her back and the side of her face and without that make up her cute little freckles were obvious on her cheeks and nose again. she smiled as she saw me and moved her aside from her face.
-"Hey!" she said.
-"Hey." I said approaching to her as she took me in a hug. I was a bit surprised but then I hugged her back. she pulled back after a few seconds.
-"You're right on time! I didn't expect that!" she said she walked inside the house and I followed her in.
-"I didn't want to keep you waiting." I said.
-"Make yourself at home!" she said from the kitchen.
-"Ok thanks..." I said while taking off my coat and scarf and hanging them.
She was in her small open kitchen making a drink. her house immediately made anybody feel at home. it wasn't a big apartment but big enough for a young girl to live alone. the walls were made of red brick like the building and only some walls were clear and white. her furniture looked simple and comfortable and was filled with a lot of stuff made the place look like a personal home. there was a Persian rug on the floor and a coffee table on it in front of tv and a soft grey sofa with lots of colorful cushions on it and a matching armchair. next to the sofa was a side table with a table lamp on it. there was a book case next to one wall that was filled with books and from the distance I could see the Harry Potter and The Hunger Games book series. the walls were covered with painting and pictures of her family and friends and some framed posters of Audrey Hepburn and her movies. to my surprise, there was a staircase leading to a second floor. next to the stair case was a round dining table with four chairs and a flower pot on it. on the other side of house next to the window that I guessed was her working area, was a corner desk with a computer and lots of papers and a lot more sketches and post its were on the wall above it.
I walked over to her desk and looked at it. the computer was off and there was a half full coffee cup of coffee on the desk along all the papers and a lamp. I turned my attention on the sketches on the wall. suddenly one of them caught my eye. there was the face of a growling wolf. it was very realistic and expertly drawn. it's fur was detailed and the ear were pinned back and the snout was wrinkled because of growling. the whole sketch was in black and white but the eyes of wolf were green. it was only a matter of second to realize she had drawn me.
-"I see my sketches got your attention Dust." she said as she handed me a glass with a carbonated neon green colored drink in it.
-"Uh yeah... they're really good."
-"Yeah it's my hobby. I like to sketch and draw as much as possible."
-"Don't you need to imagine something to draw it?"
-"well the paper is a whole another world. everything is possible if you just have a pencil. as soon I start drawing a line the next one comes to my mind, then the next and then the next until before I know it I have the full picture and can describe it with words." she said smiling.
-"That's really creative... was this one an imagination too?" I said and pointed at the wolf drawing.
-"That one? No, that one is real. it attacked me right outside your mansion. didn't hurt me though, he just let me go. I drew whatever I remembered of it. you'll laugh but, it seemed like there was more to that wolf than meets the eye."
-"Is it?" I said looking at her sort of excited. so she felt something too.
-"I don't know I got this feeling when it attacked me... or maybe it was just fear." she said and sipped her drink. I nodded and sipped mine. I tasted lime and a bit of mint.
-"Wow what is this?"
-"Oh this? it's a lemon drink I make. sorry I don't have any alcohol. I don't drink."
-"It's ok I don't too." I said, taking another sip.
-"Oh great! I wondered why you were the only one with water glass last night."
-"Yeah..." I said. I was cursing myself inside for not being able to communicate with her but at least she talked enough and didn't let the conversation die. right then a white and grey cat walked down from the stairs and ran towards Robin.
-"Aw Cat did I wake you up?" Robin said picking the cat up and holding it.
-"Is her name Cat?" I asked.
-"Yeah it is." she chuckled. "I guess I was impressed by-"
-"Breakfast at Tiffany's." I finished her sentence.
-"Yes! it's my favorite movie! and I love Audrey Hepburn. she inspires me. I wanted to get a dog but this place is too small so I got this cutie instead."
-"This place is not small. I mean you got a second floor." I said and she chuckled.
-"That second floor is barely half the size of this floor and it's an attic. I turned it to my bedroom. can't complain though, it's a really nice place. It was really cheap so instead of renting, I thought I would buy it."
-"Yeah it's a nice place. did you decorate it yourself?"
-"My friend, Lucy helped a bit. she works at cafe too. you must have seen her."
-"Oh yeah I did. the girl with braided hair."
-"Yup. that's her. she was my best friend since my college." she said and stroked back of cat more. "so are we gonna watch the movie or not Dusty?" she smirked and it made my face heat up.
-"Oh yeah I got it here. I'll put it on."
-"Yeah ok." she said and sat on her couch in front of tv. I put the movie on and walked towards the lamp switch to turn it off but suddenly I realized maybe it would give off the wrong vibe.
-"Hey should I-"
-"Turn off the lamp? yeah, of course!" she said. I smiled and turned it off and sat next to her. her couch was really soft. I looked at her once before I turn my face towards the screen. from this close, she was even more beautiful and her freckles looked cuter than usual. I smiled slowly before turning my gaze back at tv and stare at James Stewart's face as the movie started.
