Robin

I woke up with the touch of Cat's tail on my nose. I slowly opened my eyes and the first thing I felt was a hand around my waist and a chest pressed against my back and suddenly, all of last night's memories came flooding back. it made me smile. I gently stroked Dust's hand around me, careful not to wake him up. I slowly moved his hand away and got up stretching. I got my white robe and wore it on my naked body and sat up, looking at Dust.

He was laying on his right side and except for his bare chest and flat stomach, the rest of his lower body were covered in blankets. his hair was a bit messy from the sleep. my eyes fixed on his chest and the three long scratches on his left shoulder and chest. I was gonna ask him about it last night but the heat of the moment stopped me. I should ask him when he woke up. I smiled at him one last time before heading to my shower.

After the shower I put on a white tank top and and a light blue shorts and headed downstairs to the kitchen. I put the kettle on and put two toasts in toaster. I looked at myself in the mirror and fixed my hair a bit. outside it was snowing slightly and the air was clear. the house was quiet and warm and the only sound was the tick tock of the clock. I sat down on a chair and smiled thinking about last night, from the kiss on the frozen lake to my apartment. it was like a dream.

The kiss was the height of the dream. it was the best I ever had, even though I only kissed two people in my life and he didn't kiss anyone, it was still the best I ever had. like it was meant to be. it was a scene I could never forget. all the details from the snowing and the frozen lake and ice skates to the Christmas lights of park and even the judging looks of the others. it just made it more perfect.

Then there was the silent walk home. we just walked quietly in the snow, smiling and holding hands. probably processing the recent events and holding in the excitement. as if we both knew what awaits us as we walk through my door.

And then there was the apartment and suddenly all of the innocence of love suddenly turned to pure lust and filled the room. I could feel my temperature rising every second and I could tell his was too. without saying anything we started kissing passionately and he took me upstairs to my bedroom and we started undressing each other passionately. and I have no idea how we got there. from strangers to friends and lovers and now...

Although I wasn't sure about the "L" word yet. I had the feeling that's what he was gonna say last night but I stopped him with a kiss. I think it was too soon for us to say it. true I was attracted to him but attraction wasn't enough for someone like me. I had this whole other sense when I first met him and every time I was with him. like I was safe and meant to be there with him. it was a good feeling that went away every time we separated. I thought it was because our friendship was new and I was still a little nervous around him but now, I doubt that.

I lost my train of thought when I heard the water boiling. I quickly got up and turned the stove off and started making the table. waffles, cream, honey and strawberries. by that time my hair was all dried up. I smiled and headed back upstairs to wake Dust up. I gently knocked on my bedroom door.

-"Dusty? are you up?" I asked. no reply. "Dusty wake up breakfast is ready." still no reply.

I chuckled. maybe he was a heavy sleeper or he was tired since we were up late last night. I opened the door and walked in... and I screamed.

Where Dust was supposed to be asleep, there was a big wolf laying down! it had reddish brown fur and it was rather big. it was also laying on it's side and it's tail was hanging by the side of the bed. with my scream, it jumped awake and quickly looked at me with two big emerald green eyes. my eyes widened as I stepped back a bit.

-"No, no, no, no, no..." I said and stepped back terrified. I refused to believe what I was seeing and the thoughts I was thinking. the wolf flattened it's ears and got off the bed and in a second, it transformed to Dust. the transformation was unbelievable. it happened so fast that I only saw a bit of it. at first it seemed all the fur was going back inside the body and the snout was changing shape. then it got taller and leaner and then the whole structure started to shift and before I knew it, Dust was standing where the wolf was.

-"R-Robin..." he said, scared. "I-I can explain..."

-"No! No, No!" I said as I ran downstairs to the living room. I didn't know where I was gonna go or what was happening, I just I had to get away. from the room, from that bed and from that ...creature. not even a minute later, he ran downstairs wearing only a shorts.

-"Robin-"

-"Stay away from me!" I cut him off and stepped away.

-"J-just let me explain everything!"

-"Explain? explain what?! Explain why there was a wolf in my bed? or why did the wolf turn to you?" I said.

-"Robin! it's not what you think!"

-"Oh really?"

-"Yes it's not! let's talk about this!"

-"Talk about what? I know what I saw! You're a....a...."

-"A werewolf." he said.

-"A-a werewolf..." I said.

-"Yes...and if you just let me..." he said and took a step forward and I immediately took a step back.

-"Don't come close!" I cut him off.

-"Ok! ok! I'm not gonna come close! look, I know you're scared, and you should be. but if you just let me tell you everything, this thing will make a lot more sense."

-"...Ok, ok. what's this all about?" I asked. he took a deep breath.

-"Ok...see, I'm a werewolf. I can shift to a wolf and turn back. and I'm not the only. there are a lot of pack and secret communities of werewolves out there. and we're not dangerous. we don't wanna hurt anyone." he said and I slowly nodded.

-"Ok...but what does this got to do with me?" I asked.

-"Uh...you see you're...well" he sighed. "you're my mate."

-"Your what?"

-"My mate. when we reach a certain age, we have to find our mates...and you're mine."

-"Did you... pick me?" I asked.

-"No no no no! it doesn't work like that. we don't pick our mates we just have to find them."

-"I don't understand."

-"I really can't explain it. no one really can. I guess when werewolves are born, they're destined to have one soulmate. and we can find them by touching them. if you touch your mate for the first time, you get this amazing feeing. it's indescribable but great! and then they know that they're mates and their bond is sealed."

-"...But when did you touch me?" he sighed.

-"That day back in autumn. when you were walking by mansion. I tackled you and... I knew."

I suddenly remembered. the forgotten memory of that day and the wolf that tackled me. and I remembered that warm feeling I got when he tackled me down and how surprised the wolf looked then.

-"T-that was you?!" I asked and he nodded. "I...I thought I saw your eyes somewhere. it was that wolf! I mean it was you! I-I got that feeling!"

-"That means you're my mate. our bond was sealed then."

-"This...this is a lot to take in..." I said and stepped towards him a bit. "w-why didn't you tell me before?"

-"I...I was trying to protect you. not all werewolf communities are good and they might hurt you... and I was scared. scared that you might reject me."

-"Reject you?" I asked.

-"When two mates don't wanna be with each other and their bond is sealed, they reject each other. meaning that they stay away from each other and don't see each other for one year and then their bond will be broken."

-"Dust... you should have just told me."

-"I was gonna last night, but things got complicated and one thing lead to another..."

-"Well it's too late now isn't it?" I said slowly and walked towards the kitchen.

-"Too late? too late for what?"

-"You've bee lying to me all this time Dust! you hid the most important thing about yourself from me!"

-"I was trying to protect you!"

-"By lying?! you know how much easier this would have been if you had just told me the truth?"

-"What was there to say? should I have just walked up to you and told you that you're my mate and I'm a werewolf?"

-"We've been seeing each other for a long time now! we were friends! you could have told me then!"

-"I-I wasn't sure!"

-"Sure about what?"

-"I Was Gonna Reject You!" he yelled.

-"R-reject me...?" I asked.

-"I wasn't sure I wanted a mate! specially a human one!"

-"Then... why did you keep coming back?"

-"Cause... I really love you. I was gonna tell you last night... I love you and I want to be your mate." he said. I was silent and turned away slowly and walked in the kitchen.

-"Robin..." he said. "Do you?"

-"Do I what?"

-"Love me?" he asked and walked towards me and stood behind me. "Do you want to be my mate?"

I looked down at the sink silently. all that could be heard was the ticking of clock.

-"I...don't know." I said and sighed and turned to him.

-"You don't know?"

-"No I don't... I need to think about it."

-"For how long?"

-"As long as it takes! we can't just be with each other cause you say I'm your mate!"

-"I don't say so! and I said I love you."

-"Well what about me? aren't I supposed to love you back?"

-"Don't you?"

-"I Don't Know! I mean how could I when I don't even know who you are!"

-"What do you mean? I'm the same guy I was!"

-"No! there's a big difference now! I didn't know you were a..." I trailed off. he looked at me.

-"Go ahead, say it. I'm a monster."

-"I wasn't gonna say that!"

-"Then what were you gonna say?" he asked angrily. I stayed silent and he chuckled. "you know what..." he stepped back a bit. "you don't even need to think." he said and walked away.

-"What do you mean?" I asked.

-"You know what I mean! it was a mistake from the first place and I knew it..." he said and headed upstairs and closed the bedroom door.

I stayed there, staring at the place he stood. he came down couple of minutes later, all dressed up.

-"Where are you going?"

-"It seemed like there was no need to stay." he said.

-"You really do have an anger issue! I just said I needed to think about everything!"

-"Well I'm leaving you to it." he started putting his shoes on.

-"No it seems like you're rejecting me."

-"Do you care now?"

-"Of course I do!"

-"I thought werewolves were monsters to you."

-"I Never said that!"

-"You were Going to!"

-"You're the one to talk! wanting to reject your mate cause she was a human!"

-"That was not the reason!"

-"Then what was?"

-"Whatever it was, it doesn't matter. clearly you and I were not meant for each other. so I suggest we go our separate ways and never see each other again. next year bond will be broken and that would end everything!"

-"Find by me!" I yelled. "I couldn't spend my life with such a irritable person either!"

-"Guess that settles it then!"

-"Fine!" I yelled.

-"Fine!" he yelled back.

we looked at each other for a second, filled with anger and I could feel a tear streaming on my cheek. then he opened the door and walked out and shut it behind him. for a couple of seconds I looked at the door a couple of seconds before running upstairs to my room and laid on my bed and slowly started crying.
