Dust

For the next three days I rested in bed and besides waiting for my scars to heal, I tried figuring out a way to tell Robin about everything without giving her a heart attack or making her think I'm nuts. needless to say, I got nowhere.

On the 4th day I finally managed to get up from the bed without my shoulder hurting like hell. Doctor told me I could take the bandages off. I walked in the bathroom and slowly took them off and that's when I realized what did he mean by the scars never go away. the three of them were still a bit red but they've been better and I realized their very deep and long, running from my shoulder to my chest. I tried to ignore as much as possible and started taking a shower.

After the shower I heard my phone started ringing and I picked it up.

-"Hey Dusty!" Robin said.

-"Oh hey Rob. how you doing?" I asked and sat on my bed.

-"Me? how are you? I haven't heard from you in three days!"

-"Yeah I was... sort of sick. I had a cold." I said and ran my hand through my hair.

-"Oh I'm sorry! how do you feel now?"

-"I'm better actually. how do you do?"

-"I'm good! I wanted to ask you if you had any plans for tonight?"

-"Tonight? no I don't think so. how come?"

-"Well I heard the lake in the park froze and now it's an ice skate sight. I wanted to go there tonight. I thought maybe you had plans for Christmas eve but since you don't-"

-"Christmas eve? that's tonight?" I cut her off

-"Yeah of course? you forgot?" she asked chuckling.

-"Yeah I guess I lost track of time... were you gonna ask me to go ice skating?"

-"If you don't have plans..."

-"Um... no I don't. we eat at 7 so I could meet you at the park around 8:30? sounds good?"

-"Great! I'll meet you there."

-"See you." I said and hung up. this was my opportunity. I had to tell her the truth tonight and get myself out of this nightmare. then I could bring her back to mansion so that we can explain everything to her better and hopefully it would all end well.

As soon as I finished my dinner, I got up from the table.

-"Dust, where are you going?" Alpha asked.

-"I'm finished sir, thank you."

-"Are you going somewhere?" he asked.

-"In fact, yes." I said. "Robin asked me to meet her tonight and... I think I'm gonna tell her the truth."

-"You serious?! alright!" Alex said.

-"In her place?" Elsa asked.

-"No, at the park." I said and wore my black coat and scarf around my neck.

-"Oh..." Alpha said and got up and walked up to me."it's alright Dust." he said and put a hand on my shoulder.

-"Sir?" I asked.

-"I know it's hard telling your mate how you feel. specially with your mate being a human and all."

-"Oh God is this the talk?" Alex whispered.

-"Shut up." Elsa whispered back.

-"But it's ok. cause she definitely feels the same way you do. that's how mates work. they may not love each other at first but they fall in love eventually. I fell in love the moment I saw Agnes and before I knew she was my mate. and I know you feel this way about this Robin. what about her?"

-"I...I don't know... but what if she doesn't?"

-"She does. like I said, that's how mates work. you're meant for each other. it's hard explaining to her cause she's a human but she'll get it. she felt exactly what you felt when you touched her so don't worry about it."

-"Ok... I'll try to keep that in mind. thanks." I smiled a bit and walked out. I walked down the hallway and out of the mansion. I started walking down the road in the slightly snowy weather. I wasn't nervous before all this but now with what Alpha said I was starting to get worried. what if she doesn't feel the same way? she is my mate but that doesn't mean she's in love with me. at least not like I do...

The sight of town made me forget all that for a bit. Christmas eve. it was like I always remembered it and nothing like it at all. it was always a magical time in Willow Creek. with the snow, Church choirs and bells, Christmas lights all over the town and window lights the town looked like a fairytale village more than ever. it was more crowded than usual. couples holding hands, old couples sitting on benches, families buying toys for their kids. I saw all of this kind of people in the park when I was waiting for Robin to show up.

I could hear the sound of Church bells as it echoed through town as she slowly approached me. she was wearing a dark grey coat and a blue scarf around her neck with dark jeans and short boots with a grey winter hat on her long Auburn hair. even from the distance I could see her beautiful smile. she looked more beautiful than I ever saw her. like an angel on earth.

-"Hey there!" she said as she approached me.

-"Hey..." I said smiling at her.

-"Sorry I was late. I was putting Cat to sleep."

-"No no it's alright really. I enjoyed the view."

-"Yeah it's really beautiful isn't it? I love this time of year."

-"Yeah me too..." I smiled.

-"So, skating?" she asked smiling.

-"Yeah, yeah sure." I chuckled and walked beside her in the park. "so did you finally got your tree decorated?"

-"Oh yeah. it's not special but it's alright." she smiled and looked around. "don't you just love it?"

-"Love what?" I looked at her.

-"This. everything. I always found it fascinating. it's amazing how a miracle can lighten up the entire world on a single night and bring them together to celebrate it. I mean it's so beautiful that even people who are not Christian celebrate it. have you noticed ever it?"

-"Well, not really. I told you about our Christmas eves and I'm not really a church going type."

-"You're not?"

-"Are you?"

-"Yes and no. sometimes I go, sometimes I don't go. but I sure believe in it. I find the whole thing very fascinating. one person, sacrificing himself to save the rest of the people. it's amazing. and even his birth is a miracle! and here we are, 2017 years later and we're still celebrating it."

-"Yeah but celebrating it isn't enough. going to Church and reading the bible is important otherwise... God will damn you to hell."

-"Who told you that?" she asked chuckling.

-"No one...I figured."

-"Religion isn't about a book or a certain building. it's the belief. you have to believe it first and put your fate into it then you'll obey it the best way you could. God doesn't expect the impossible from you. and also I don't think God just goes around damning people, he's too busy creating all of this for us!" she said excitedly pointing all around smiling at the sky. I couldn't help but to smile at her and gently holding her arm.

She looked at me and chuckled a bit.

-"Sorry. I get carried away sometimes." she said, slightly blushing.

-"I don't mind at all." I smiled back.

We kept walking in silence after until we reached the lake. it was all frozen and the people skating on it with a Dj on one side who played soft music. I took two skates from the cabin that rented them and gave one to Robin and started wearing the other one myself. I got up and tried to control my balance on the ice and I somehow managed. but when I looked at Robin, she was holding onto the side rails to not fall. I chuckled at the scene.

-"Need some help there?"

-"N-no! I can manage! I used to do this all the tiiiiiiiim-" she said and fell down on ice. I skated over to her and kneeled down.

-"Guess ices are friendlier back in Canada huh?" I said.

-"Har har." she said and took my hand and slowly got up. as soon as she did she lost control again and hung on to me to not fall. "ok I might have forgot how it was..." she chuckled and I smiled, holding out my arm for her to hold on.

She took it and we started skating slowly around the lake and among other people. at first it was just a couple of yelps and laughs but soon she got the hang of it and we skated silently for a while.

-"So aren't you visiting your family on vacation?" I asked.

-"Not this year. they're visiting my sister who's pregnant."

-"Oh congratulations." I said.

-"Thanks it's no big deal though."

-"So... how many siblings do you have?"

-"3. two brothers and one sister."

-"Wow. big family." I chuckled.

-"You have no idea." she smiled. "I'm the youngest. my older brother Charlie is the oldest. then there's Taylor and Tyler who are twins. and then it's me. Charlie's married with two kids and Taylor is having her first. Tyler and me are the single ones."

-"So you're already an aunt."

-"Yeah. what about you?"

-"You already met my siblings." I said.

-"I know but who's the oldest?"

-"Well Elsa and Alex are twins but I'm a month older than them."

-"Obviously." she chuckled.

-"How come? cause of my charm that only comes with age?" I smirked.

-"No, cause you're too bossy!" she laughed.

-"Not true!" I said laughing a bit but we stopped when the music stopped and we heard the speaker.

-"Attention Skaters!" the voice said. "it's time for solo skaters to skate out of the lake for it's that time of night of couple skating~ so unless you have a sweetheart or a partner please step aside for a couple of minutes and let the couples dance with the stars~" then most of lights went dim and only some stayed on as a soft music played. I looked at Robin chuckling and blushing a bit.

-"We better get out..."

-"Oh no. I''m just getting the hang of this! he said couples can stay. we're two people which makes us a couple. who knows we're not together?"

-"Um..." I looked around as some skaters went to sides and the couple skaters stayed on ice. "ok, ok you're right." she smiled and held my arm and we skated slowly.

-"D'accord, il existait, D'autres façons de se quitter" the sound of a woman singing in French played on the speaker.

-"Oh My God! I love this song! it's Je T'aime."

-"I haven't heard it before..." I said.

-"iI's really beautiful. she sings about someone she loves and and how she loves him."

-"You understand all of it?"

-"Of course Dummy! I told you I could speak French." she smiled as we skated some more.

-"Well, would you care to translate then?" I asked.

-"Sure!"

-"Je t'ai volé ce sang, Qu'on aurait pas dû partager, A bout de mots, de rêves, Je vais crier" the song continued.

-"I stole your blood, that we should not have shared." Robin translated. "at the end of words, dreams I scream."

-"Je t'aime, je t'aime"

-"I love you, I love you" she said.

-"Comme un fou, comme un soldat, Comme une star de cinéma"

-"Like a fool, like a soldier, like a Cinema star." she translated

-"Je t'aime, je t'aime"

-"I love you, I love you." she looked at my eyes this time as I smiled a bit.

-"Comme un loup, comme un roi, Comme un homme que je ne suis pas"

-"like a Wolf, like a King, like a man that I'm not."

-"Like a wolf?" I asked.

-"Yeah, how come?"

-"Nothing it's just unexpected when she's singing about love."

-"Didn't you know wolves are the best lovers?"

-"Are they?" I looked at her.

-"Yeah. after they find their mate, they stay with her and only find another mate if one of them dies. more loyal than humans if you ask me."

-"Yeah..." I said slowly. "Robin?"

-"Yeah?" she asked.

-"I-I wanted to tell you something..." I said nervously.

-"Yeah?" she asked.

-"I-I...well it's uh...I'm-" but before I could finish my sentence I slipped and fell on ice in my back. Robin immediately lost control and fell over on my chest. we both yelped and groaned at first then we slowly looked at each other and burst into laughter. she was laying on top of me and her face was really close to mine. so close that I could count the small freckles on her cheeks and see her lovely auburn hair fallen on her face.

We slowly stopped laughing as others skated past us. she was now smiling and looking down at me with her baby blue eyes and moved her hair aside.

-"So um... you were saying?" she said.

-"I um...I was just saying that..." I said and looked at her. her blue eyes looked more beautiful than ever and her smile made me want to smile too. I don't know what happened, maybe the mate thing kicked in. but I slowly raised my head and brought it close to hers. inch by inch I felt like my heart was gonna jump out of my chest. she was still perfectly still but her smile was now slowly fading.

-"I-I was saying...I..." my face was only an inch away from hers. I never got to finish my sentence. cause right then she made the last move, and pressed her lips on mine.

My eyes suddenly widened and my brain stopped working. I couldn't hear anything but my heartbeat anymore. it wasn't long before I closed my eyes and gave in the kiss, raising my gloved hand to hold her face. her lips tasted like mint toothpaste and I could feel her hand on my chest. she finally pulled away slowly after a minute or so. she was smiling down at me and I just looked in her eyes.

-"No need to say anything." she said and ended all my anxiety. "you wanted this right?" she asked.

-"Y-yeah... so much." I said, stuttering.

-"Show it then." she said smirking and this time, with more confidence, I brought my head close to hers and started kissing her again.

I completely forgot where and in what situation were or who would others say about us, kissing on the ice skate park. all I could think of now was nothing. my inner wolf was howling excited and happy and for the first time in a long time in that blissful moment, I didn't have a worry in the world.
