I'M Diana Alberts, grade six student with a mom friend complex and a cool sword that I use to slice up bad hybrids. I'm friends with teens from the 1940's and a grumpy seventh-grader—ow! Jeez, sorry, then. I'm friends with really cool people, and this is the story of how my summer took a wild turn. Classic story plot for a 12-year-old, 'innit?

If I was given the choice, I would tell a certain piece of shit scientist to mind his own business, because me and my friends were trying to have a good afternoon walk. But no, his lion-dogs just had to ruin it. Then we met an invisible boy and his human coloring marker girlfriend, and got weapons, as in full-on big knives.

One thing led to another. My other best friend, her crush, his best friend and my cousin got dragged into it. Prom night was a disaster and ended in me sniffling into my ice cream sundae while Philip tried to hide a sword up his suit. We helped a British drummer boy run away from his household, and even ended our summer with a bit of trauma!

I learned a lot, met a few new people, and did a lot of things I would never have guessed I'd be able to do, but, hey, that's that and I can't change it. Me and my friends agreed to fight, not knowing the mess we would get ourselves into. Or, messes, if I'm being honest. We didn't know we'd be fighting for the world, all of it beginning in our tiny little hometown. God, this is sounding like a Disney Channel show voiceover.

Oh, but that piece of shit scientist gave us one hell of a fun adventure!
