Chapter Thirteen: Lonely Walk
I am unfamiliar with the roads around me. Unsure of how I came to be here. All I remember was walking before the smell came into my nose. Decaying. I heard the call of crows and I tried to follow the noise but now I am standing in the middle of the road with all these roads around me.
The wind is carrying harsh snow around me and my vision is blurred. I cannot make out my surroundings but for the road. I look down and spot a set of paw prints in the snow in front of me. I step forward, deciding to follow the prints, hoping they will lead me to something I know. Somewhere I know. When did I become lost? Where was I coming from?
The wind hurls against me and I stumble off the path, the paw prints are blown with the wind. I brace, wrapping my arms around myself. I don't know what to do. I blink, my eyes wet with tears. The wind blows harsh against my eyes and I bring my hands up, cupping them to stop the cold. Against my hands and through the creases of my fingers whispers are echoing. I strain to try and hear the words. No, it's a word.
Harbinger.
The echo flutters into my ears and the wind continues to push against me. I comply with the gusts, walking in the path that the wind is clearing.
Harbinger.
I can make out a building in my view. It's big reaching upward and it is covered in snow. I can just about make it out. The wind wants me to go to the building. The wind is guiding me. The wind is talking to me.
Harbinger.
