26| BRO DOWN

Harper arrived at the Davenport mansion early in the morning, dressed in black leather skinny jeans, a long-sleeved black shirt and a faded denim jacket. She added a touch of color with peach-colored flats, the soft hue standing out against the darker tones of her outfit. She was ready for whatever the day held, though she didn't expect things to get quite so chaotic so quickly.

Stepping off the elevator, she walked in with Adam and Leo, their footsteps echoing in the quiet Lab. But something immediately caught Harper's eye—a rope lying on the floor in the middle of the room. She raised an eyebrow, confused. It seemed a bit out of place in the usually meticulous lab.

Her attention shifted to the far corner where Chase stood, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He was barely containing his excitement, looking like he had just pulled off a genius move. Harper frowned, not sure what to make of it.

"Trap." Leo said casually as he and Harper walked past the rope.

Adam, not noticing the trap, furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, scanning the room. "Trap what?"

Before Harper or Leo could warn him, Adam stepped right into the trap. In an instant, Chase clicked a button and the rope tightened around Adam's foot, yanking him upward toward the ceiling.

Harper jumped back in surprise, narrowly avoiding Adam's flailing arms as he was hoisted off the ground.

"Oh, yes! It worked!" Chase exclaimed with uncontained glee, jumping around in celebration. He practically bounced over to Adam, clearly pleased with the success of his trap. "Now, let's see how you like being relentlessly manhandled!" Everyone looked at him uncertainly. "That came out wrong."

"Ya think?"  Harper quipped with a smirk, crossing her arms and raising an eyebrow at him.

"Oh, the trap was on the floor." Adam chuckled in amusement.

"Yep, and now we're gonna play a game called 'Human Pinata'. But instead of candy, we're gonna guess what Adam had for lunch." Chase said.

Harper couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Ironically, I'm guessing it's candy."

"You're forgetting one thing, Chase. I can use my heat vision to break free." Adam reminded.

"Adam, I don't think..." Harper started, but was cut off by the sound of Adam concentrating, his eyes glowing with heat.

He aimed his vision directly at the rope, cutting through it with a precise burst. The rope snapped and Adam landed with a loud thud on the cyber desk below. His shoulder hit first and the sound was enough to make everyone wince in sympathetic pain.

Adam quickly sprang to his feet, a triumphant grin spreading across his face. "Ha! Nice try!"

Harper's mouth dropped in shock as she took in the scene. Adam's arm was completely out of place, hanging awkwardly behind him and meeting his other shoulder. His shoulder was clearly dislocated.

Bree, who had been sitting in the swivel chair, stood up and nervously pointed at Adam's arm. "Uh, Adam?"

Adam, still completely oblivious to the severity of the situation, looked down at his arm and chuckled. "Whoa! I never knew my arm could bend like that."

"Um...." Chase hesitated, his voice trailing off.  "It can't."

The realization hit Adam just a moment too late. He paused, and then, without warning, his face contorted in pain as he clutched his shoulder. The sound of his yell was a mix of shock and agony.

Leo, who had been standing nearby, rolled his eyes back and lost feeling in his legs from the sheer awkwardness of the situation. Harper barely had time to react before she had to catch him as he toppled to the ground.

••••

Mr. Davenport rushed into the Lab with a look of concern on his face after hearing about the incident. He immediately set to work on Adam, who was still cradling his shoulder. With swift efficiency, he reset Adam's dislocated shoulder, his hands moving with practiced precision. Once the shoulder was back in place, Mr. Davenport gave Adam a sling to keep his arm immobilized.

The others sat around the cyber desk, where an x-ray image of Adam's injury was displayed. Bree, Leo and Harper sat on the stools, while Chase spun lazily in the swivel chair, eyeing the screen with curiosity.

"You're lucky it's just a dislocation." Mr. Davenport said with a mix of frustration and relief. " How many times have I told you guys not to goof around?" Mr. Davenport scolded.

Bree gave him a sideways glance and a half-hearted smile. "Brace yourself, because this is probably gonna shatter your world, but they don't listen to a word you say."

"Look, I know this was a freak accident, but he could have seriously been hurt. What if he'd have landed on his head?" Mr. Davenport questioned.

Chase, leaning back in his chair, shrugged nonchalantly. "Uh, it would have popped open, spraying confetti everywhere?"

Adam couldn't help but laugh at the image. "Oh ho! That would be awesome!"

Mr. Davenport rolled his eyes and gave them all a look of exasperation. "You know what I mean."

Chase stood up from the chair and walked over to Mr. Davenport. "But Mr. Davenport, I wasn't trying to hurt him. I was trying to get even. Adam is always punching me and throwing me around."

"Yeah, but when I do it, it's funny." Adam defended himself.

"Adam, it is not funny. If any of you get seriously hurt when I'm not around, all it takes is one x-ray of your bionic chip and you know what happens next." Mr. Davenport warned the bionic teens.

"Yep." Leo chimed in, pointing at Adam, Bree and Chase. "You three go to a government facility, you go to the big house, and I get a big old mansion all to myself, and Harper moves in without asking."

Harper raised an eyebrow and tilted her head, giving him a pointed look. "Leo, that's not funny. Remember how you were when they were nearly sent away when we first met them?"

Leo sighed dramatically, trying to brush it off. "Oh, come on. This really can't be the first time Adam has ever gotten hurt."

"No, it really is." Bree confirmed. "Although there have been some close calls."

"Yeah, like that one time I reached under the table..." Adam began as he ducked under the cyber desk "... and when I stood up I-" He smacked his head on the underside of the desk with a loud thwack, groaning as he rubbed his skull. "Ohh. Hey, it was just like that."

"Look, you're all gonna have to start being a lot more careful. You're superhuman, but you're not invincible." Mr. Davenport cautioned the bionic siblings.

"Maybe not, but I can still do this." Adam said, lunging at Chase with a punch, but Chase easily dodged it, taunting him with a grin. Adam groaned in defeat. "Oof! That hurts! Great, now Bree's the strongest."

Bree's eyes immediately lit up at the compliment and she raised her arms, flexing them proudly. She glanced around the room, clearly reveling in the moment.

Harper couldn't help but chuckle, giving Bree an amused look.

••••

Later that day, Bree and Harper curled up on the couch in the cozy living room, both wrapped in a soft, blue blanket. The faint glow of the TV screen flickered in front of them, casting a warm light as they settled into the cushions, ready for a relaxing evening.

They had rented a movie for the night, one they'd been dying to watch and they shared a large bowl of popcorn between them, constantly reaching for more.

The two were so engrossed in the film that they didn't notice Leo sneaking up behind them. Without warning, he launched himself onto the couch, landing with a dramatic thud between them.

"Oh, I love this movie!" Leo exclaimed, grinning ear to ear "Okay, I don't want to spoil it, but he falls off a cliff, those two get married, and that bear is her father in disguise."

"Leo!" Harper groaned, throwing a pillow at him in frustration.

"Why do you always have to do that?!" Bree grumbled before, unintentionally, mimicking Leo's voice perfectly. "I'm Leo, and I have to ruin everything for everyone."

The room fell silent. Leo's eyes widened and Harper froze, looking from Bree to Leo and back again. The atmosphere seemed to shift as both Leo and Harper slowly backed away to the right, while Bree, still unaware of what she'd just done, backed up to the left. They all exchanged baffled glances and the tension in the air grew thick.

"What- Did you just? What'd you just do!?" Leo stammered, his eyes wide with shock.

"I have no idea!" Bree exclaimed, her voice still perfectly imitating Leo's. She quickly slapped her hands over her mouth, her eyes widening in horror

"Okay, we have to tell Mr. Davenport right now." Harper insisted.

The three teens hurried down to the Lab, adrenaline still rushing through them from the strange turn of events. They pressed the elevator button and waited impatiently for it to arrive, their thoughts racing as they tried to process what had just happened with Bree's sudden voice-mimicking ability.

When the doors finally opened, they piled inside, pressing the button for the lab floor.

The elevator door opened with a soft ding and they rushed out. Mr. Davenport was already inside the Lab, but when he saw the frantic expressions on the teens' faces, his confusion was evident.

Harper managed to explain the situation to Mr. Davenport. His eyebrows shot up when he heard Leo's voice slip out of Bree's mouth.

Mr. Davenport turned to the lab's equipment, scanning the area for something. After a moment, he found a scanning device and approached Bree, tapping a few buttons to activate it.

"Bree, remember when I told you that strange things might be happening to your bionics?" He asked, his voice slightly more serious. "Well, it looks like you have uncovered one of your hidden abilities. Either that or puberty has been very unkind to you."

Leo snorted in laughter from beside Harper.

Bree rolled her eyes. "It's not funny. This is really freaking me out."

Leo raised an eyebrow and scoffed. "Freaking you out? You jacked my voice, man!"

"It seems to be some kind of vocal manipulation. Whenever Bree hears a sound, her bionics manipulate her vocal cords to reproduce the exact same sonic wavelength." Mr. Davenport explained.

"That's so cool." Harper said with a smile, impressed by Bree's new skill.

"Oh, that's fair. So, Chase gets to move stuff with his mind, and I'm a ventriloquist without a dummy." Bree complained.

"Look, I'm guessing you will develop a bank of voices and sounds that will come in handy on missions. But until then, do not use it! It's not a toy." Mr. Davenport warned.

Bree stood confidently in the middle of the Lab, her arms crossed as she watched Mr. Davenport leave the room to gather more information on her newly discovered ability. As soon as the door closed behind him, she couldn't help but smirk.

"Right, it's not a toy." Bree said, mimicking Mr. Davenport's serious tone perfectly. She pointed at herself.  "And I'm awesome! Ha!"

Leo's eyes widened with excitement. "You can do him too! This is incredible!" He pulled out his phone and held it up to her. "Now say, 'My name is Donald Davenport, and I would like to withdraw all my money from this bank'."

••••

Harper had taken the day off for a dentist appointment and in typical Bree and Leo fashion, they couldn't resist the temptation to have a little fun—especially at Principal Perry's expense.

To be fair, even when Harper was around, she wasn't always the voice of reason. She had a slight problem with following along when it came to Adam, Bree, Chase and Leo's schemes.

It wasn't like she tried to get involved, but she couldn't help herself. Take the recycling center incident, for example. At the beginning of the year, she'd voluntarily thrown herself into a recycling bin. Sure, it wasn't her brightest moment, but she did survive it.

So, it was no surprise when Bree and Leo, ever the troublemakers, decided to take advantage of Harper's absence.

Harper, Bree and Leo were casually strolling down the stairs when Principal Perry marched into the main hallway. She had that look on her face—the one that meant trouble was coming.

"I've got news for whoever parked their bike in my parking spot, uh, you need a new bike, and you owe me four tires!" Principal Perry barked, her face flushed with frustration.

Bree elbowed Leo and Harper, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I'm gonna do her voice again."

Harper's eyes widened in alarm. "Again? I leave for the dentist, and I come back to find you mimicking Principal Perry. Bree, this is not a good idea."

"I'm with Harper on this one." Leo chimed in, trying to offer some caution. "Bad idea, Bree. She really looks mad, and with Perry, you need to know when to draw the line."

Bree scoffed and flashed a grin. "Come on. I'm loving this. I never knew bionics could be so much fun!"

"The last time she turned that red, the janitor had to take her down with a tranquilizer gun. And it took three shots." Harper explained.

"Somebody better fess up. I don't have all day!" Principal Perry called out.

Bree hid behind the stairs and began imitating Principal Perry's voice, mimicking her every inflection perfectly. "Because school ends right now."

Just then, the school bell rang loudly, signaling the end of the day. A cheer rose from the students and they quickly rushed out of the doors in packs, eager to leave.

"No, no, no, no, no! Who said that? School isn't over! Don't make me go home." Perry protested. As the hallways cleared, with the last few students lingering behind, Bree, Leo, and Harper tried to keep their composure. The only ones left were Leo and Harper. She turned and pointed directly at them. "Aha."

Leo and Harper exchanged an awkward glance, realizing they were caught.

"Later." Leo said, forcing a smile as he quickly linked arms with Harper, pulling her down the hall as fast as he could.

"Hold it right there, you two!" Perry demanded. They froze in their tracks, already knowing there was no escaping the wrath of the principal once she was on a roll.

Bree, still crouched behind the stairs, took full advantage of the moment as she continued to mimic Principal Perry. "Keep walkin', you two!"

"Freeze!"

"Beat it!"

"Park it!" Perry called again, but Leo and Harper were already halfway near the door, trying to escape the situation before it escalated.

Principal Perry, now fully aware of the prank, narrowed her eyes and peered at the staircase where Bree was hidden. She pushed Leo and Harper out of her way and marched toward the source of the impromptu impersonation.

"Are you not listening? I thought I told you to...." Bree stopped when Perry found her on the other side of the step. She straightened up, her mischievous grin slipping into a more innocent one as she quickly switched back to her normal voice "Have a nice day. Hi."

Principal Perry smiled at Bree, but it disappeared when she stepped off the bench. "So, you're the little comedian, huh? I don't know how you're so good at imitating the chorus of angels that is my voice but go ahead- show me how you do it."

Bree hesitated, her confidence wavering a little. "Uh, well..."

"I'm waiting." Principal Perry insisted.

"Well, I'm not-" Bree started glitching and mimicked the sound of the school bell.

A flurry of disjointed noises followed, leaving everyone staring in bewilderment. Bree started mimicking various voices and sounds—Chase's voice, an alarm, Leo's voice, chirping birds, Adam's signature deep tone, a wolf howling, Harper's voice, even a car horn blaring, all blending together in an incoherent cacophony.

Leo and Harper stood frozen, horrified by the bizarre spectacle playing out in front of them. They were speechless, completely thrown off by the random assortment of sounds. They hadn't expected this... at all.

"I don't know what that was." Perry said slowly, her expression one of pure bewilderment. "But I know something in there was offensive. I'm calling your dad, and you're staying after school. Don't move."

With that, she stormed off, speed-walking toward her office.

As the hallway returned to its usual quiet, Leo and Harper slowly crept out from behind the pillar, each moving cautiously as they made their way over to Bree.

"Uh, what just happened?" Harper asked in confusion.

"I got so nervous when Perry busted me that I glitched. Now Davenport's gonna know I used my vocal manipulation!" Bree groaned in frustration, and as if on cue glitched again, this time barking into the air.

"If only someone suave, cool and collected, had told you not to." Leo mused, gazing into the distance.

"Yeah, well, they didn't- you did." Bree responded before letting out a groan. "Great. Now Perry's gonna tell Davenport I was using my vocal manipulation."

"Yeah, I like to split the world up into my problems and other people's problems, and this seems to fall squarely in the latter." Leo explained, gesturing with his hand. "So have fun with that."

"No, no." Bree said as she grabbed Leo's backpack, turning him around so she was facing him. "This is partly your fault. Help me."

"How?" Leo quipped. "It's not like you can just be home right now to take the call to Davenport..." Before he could continue, Bree super-speeded out of the hallway in a blur. "Oh, right. You can."

Harper crossed her arms and looked at Leo. "So, how is this partially your fault?"

"Uh, well, you see, I maybe had begged Bree to use her vocal manipulation yesterday..." Leo hesitantly explained, drawing his hands closer to himself.

Harper's expression turned to one of disbelief. "Leo. You know they aren't..."

"I know, but school was the perfect place to use it."

"Now, Bree is racing back home to answer as Mr. Davenport."

"Dooley! Wilson!" Principal Perry shouted, startling them. She held the phone to her chest, the cord stretched from her office to the hallway. "Where's little miss Lip Flapper?"

"Uh, she, uh..." Harper stammered, trying to think of an excuse.

"Say, where do you get those lovely pantsuits?" Leo interrupted, stalling for Bree.

"I order them out of a hunting catalog." Principal Perry replied, flattered. She then returned to the topic. "Where's your friend?" Just then, Bree super-sped back into the hallway, her rubber combat boots smoking. "Why do I smell burning rubber? I hate the smell of burning rubber!" Bree stomped her feet, trying to get rid of the pungent stench in the air. Perry turned to face Bree, now standing before her. "Oh. There you are. Come here and tell your dad what you did."

Bree, clearly trying to keep her cool, cleared her throat and reluctantly took the phone from Principal Perry, pressing it to her ear. "I am so sorry."

Principal Perry turned to look at Leo and Harper, eyes narrowing as if to ensure they were paying attention. "She's sorry."

"I imitated Principal Perry. Yes, I will tell her you will punish me when I get home tonight. Okay, bye." Bree finished, handing the phone back to Principal Perry.

Perry groaned loudly. "Wait! I wasn't done with him! Hell? Don? Don?"

"He hung up." Bree quickly said.

"Ugh! I hate it when people hang up on me! Don't go anywhere! I'm calling him back." Perry exclaimed as she stormed back into her office.

As soon as Principal Perry disappeared behind the door, Bree wasted no time. She super-sped out of the hallway, hoping to put some distance between herself and the chaos she'd just unleashed.

To Leo and Harper's surprise, just as Bree darted out, Mr. Davenport entered the school building with a purposeful stride, looking very much out of place in the school hallway.

"Mr. Davenport, what are you doing here?" Harper asked, genuinely confused.

"I'm here to pick you guys up." Mr. Davenport replied, eyeing the teenagers with raised eyebrows, his gaze lingering with suspicion. "So, are you guys gonna tell me why I saw Bree super speed in and out of school?" Leo flashed an awkward smile, and Harper pursed her lips, exchanging a brief, worried glance with him. "Get in the car!"

Without another word, Leo and Harper rushed to the car, knowing that when Mr. Davenport called the shots, there was no room for argument. They piled into the vehicle, each trying to ignore the inevitable conversation that was coming.

••••

The drive back home was far from quiet. Harper sat in the back seat of the car with her legs crossed, her hands intertwined gently on her lap. She glanced out the window, watching the passing scenery as Mr. Davenport and Bree had an animated discussion in the front seat. Leo occasionally chimed in, adding his own quirky comments.

The tension that had built up earlier was still palpable, but Harper could tell they were all trying to move past it.

When the car finally came to a stop in the driveway, the group piled out, stretching their legs and taking a breath of fresh air. Mr. Davenport walked up to the front door, unlocked it and motioned for them all to head inside.

"I'm sorry that I used my vocal manipulation. But trust me, if you had it, you'd be using it all day long." Bree started as she entered the house.

"No, I would not, because I am a mature adult." Mr. Davenport responded, glancing back at Leo and Harper, who gave him a pointed look. "I'm an adult. Look, I know it's a lot of fun. But it's also a bionic ability, and we cannot risk people finding out about it."

"You're right. And can I just say that this has taught me so much? Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I have learned my lesson, and I will never do it again." Bree said quietly, raising her arms. "Hugs?"

"Nice try. You're grounded." Mr. Davenport said nonchalantly.

Bree's playful expression fell and she sighed dramatically as Mr. Davenport walked away.

Leo smiled, clearly amused. "Classic Davenport tough but fair."

"You're grounded too."

"Are you insane?!"

Harper couldn't help but chuckle softly at the back-and-forth. She shifted her gaze from Leo to the kitchen, where Chase was casually sipping from a plastic bottle. She recalled asking where he'd been earlier in the day at school. Chase, never one to miss school, had always loved it too much to just skip. Something felt off today.

Leo and Bree had mentioned earlier that Adam was too afraid to attend school anymore, even quitting the team. It was now Chase's responsibility to help him regain his confidence.

Harper took a deep breath and approached Chase, who was still lost in thought, staring at the bottle in his hand.

"How's it going with Adam?" She wondered.

Chase let out a small sigh. "I tried to talk to him, nothing worked, but Mr. Davenport and I thought of a plan to trick him."

Harper thought for a moment, then offered a small, hopeful smile. "Can I help?"

Chase looked at her, surprised for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, that might be good."

••••

They had a plan.

"Get ready. Here he comes." Mr. Davenport informed Chase and Harper.

Down in the Lab, Chase quickly slipped into his capsule. Harper gave him a push, ensuring the door shut just as Adam walked in, distracted by the comic he was reading.

"Adam!" Harper called out, making sure to grab his attention. "Help us, Chase is stuck in his capsule. Mr. Davenport and I tried everything, but we can't get him out!"

Mr. Davenport quickly yanked Adam to the cyber desk. "The operating system in Chase's capsule has malfunctioned! See?"

They all glanced at Chase, who was pretending to be struggling inside the capsule, breathing heavily. His exaggerated gasps and dramatic tone were over-the-top, but that was the plan.

"Oh, no! I'm trapped in my capsule! I can't get out!" Chase exaggerated, slamming his hand on the capsule's glass. Adam sighed, clearly not buying it. "I sure hope I don't asphyxiate in here!" Adam's frown caused him to use a smaller word, "And stop breathing."

Adam smiled, content that he knew what it meant.

"Adam, you gotta break open the door!" Mr. Davenport urged, motioning towards Chase's capsule.

"Yeah, nice try, guys. I know a prank when I see one. If this were real, Chase would be screaming and gasping for air, like when I use him to clean the toilet. You really should have let Harper handle this." Adam retorted.

Mr. Davenport sighed in frustration. "All right, Chase, come on out. He's not buying it."

Breaking character, Harper ran a hand through her hair, looking defeated. Adam, sitting comfortably in the chair with his feet up on the control panel, seemed relaxed.

Then, the unexpected happened. With a sudden beep, the capsule lit up red. A mist began spraying from above.

"Uh, Mr. Davenport?" Chase questioned, his voice strained from inside, suddenly more urgent.

Mr. Davenport and Harper both looked toward the console in panic.

"Adam, your- your foot turned on the heat sanitizer! That thing gets up to 200 degrees!" Mr. Davenport exclaimed as he tried frantically to pry open the capsule door.

Chase pounded on the glass, "I really can't breathe! Get me out!"

"It's locked!" Mr. Davenport shouted.

Harper sprinted to Mr. Davenport's side, panic rising in her chest. "It's locked! Adam, you gotta break down this door!"

"Ah, bravo! So dramatic! Your acting's much better this time," Adam said with a proud smile, clearly enjoying the moment.

But then, something shifted in the room. Chase's eyes fluttered shut, his form becoming barely visible through the mist clouding inside his capsule. Harper's heart skipped a beat. She quickly let go of the capsule, her focus entirely on Adam.

"Help him, Adam! He's actually dying!" She demanded, stepping in front of him.

Adam froze. He glanced over at Chase, his previous smirk faltering as he saw how weak and limp his younger brother had become, struggling against the rising mist. His expression immediately shifted from arrogance to genuine concern.

Wait a minute. He really is in trouble! Why didn't you say something!" He asked in disbelief.

"We did!" Mr. Davenport and Harper exclaimed simultaneously.

Without another second to waste, Adam shot up from his chair and rushed to the capsule. "I'm coming for you, Chasey!"

He clenched his fist and without thinking, brought it down onto the glass of the capsule with a powerful blow. The glass shattered like it was made of nothing more than paper, splintering into fragments. The mist inside began to escape in a rush, swirling around the room.

Adam didn't hesitate. He reached inside, grabbed his brother by the shirt and lifted him out of the capsule with ease. Throwing him onto his uninjured shoulder and threw him across the floor.

"Adam!" Harper shouted, her eyes wide with shock and anger.

Chase groaned as he hit the cold concrete floor. His body was limp and the exhaustion from the mist was evident on his face. Harper rushed to his side, kneeling beside him and waving her hand over his face, desperate for some sign of life.

His eyes finally fluttered open, locking with hers. Relief washed over Harper's face as she let out a nervous, yet grateful, laugh. She immediately pulled him into a bone-crushing hug.

She let go and stood up, offering her hand to him. She and Mr. Davenport helped him sit onto a nearby stool.

Adam, still processing the chaos he had just caused, shook his head. "Wait, wait. So, you three set this whole thing up, and Chase almost turned into a S'more? Ha! And I'm the dumb one."

Chase exhaled slowly, still trying to regain his composure. "Adam, you just used your super strength to shatter an unbreakable capsule, and fear never even entered your mind."

"Yeah, I wasn't thinking about getting hurt. I wasn't thinking at all." Adam responded with a careless grin.

"Look," Mr. Davenport began, his tone shifting to one of quiet authority"All this time you've been living in fear, and when you didn't have time to think, you just got the job done."

Adam's eyes brightened as the words hit him. His usual grin stretched wide. "Wow! That's it! From now on, I just need to spend my whole life not thinking."

Mr. Davenport and Chase exchanged a brief glance before returning their focus to Adam. "Absolutely,"

"Wait does this mean you're returning to the team?" Harper wondered optimistically.

"I guess I am. Whoo-hoo!" Adam cheered, his energy infectious as ever.

"Phew! I'm glad that worked out. And I think you both learned a valuable lesson today? No more horseplay," Mr. Davenport lectured the bionic brothers.

"Got it."

"Got it."

Mr. Davenport nodded approvingly, giving the brothers one last look before he exited the Lab. The door clicked shut behind him, leaving the teenagers inside.

As soon as he was out of sight, a smug grin spread across Adam's face. His eyes glinted with the familiar spark of mischief as he turned to his brother. "Hey, how about one more toss just for old time's sake?"

"Do I have a choice?" Chase asked dryly, standing up from his seat.

Adam shook his head. "No, you don't."

"I'll go get a pack of ice." Harper muttered, clearly familiar with the aftermath of Adam's "tosses." Despite her exasperation, there was a fond smile tugging at her lips. She had seen enough of these ridiculous stunts to know it was part of the deal with having bionic brothers.
