Mr. Mikaelson Lovers

Gabriel wakes up alone in bed. He rubs his eyes and tiredly looks around the room in confusion. "Care?"

When he receives no response he gets up from the bed, passing his daughter whom was peacefully sleeping. He softly smiles at her and follows the blondes heartbeat to the balcony. He peaks his head out and feels his shoulders sag in relief. "Love, it's early what are you doing out here?"

Caroline sits on the chair staring down at the New Orleans roads. It's so early that it's probably one of the very few times you won't hear jazz music playing or tourists running around. "I couldn't sleep. Every time I close my eyes I feel his hand around my heart, I see him pulling Jackson's heart out, and hear Hayley's screams. It's never ending."

Gabriel closes his eyes, his heart squeezing in his chest. He quietly walks to the chair and easily pulls her off the chair. He takes a seat and then softly pulls her onto his lap, laying his head in the crook of her shoulder. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you."

Caroline shakes her head in disbelief. "If it wasn't for you then I would be dead. Don't go there, just don't."

"If it wasn't for me then you never would've been put into that situation in the first place." He argues.

Caroline slightly turns her body so that she could look him in the eyes. "We have a daughter now, you cannot send me back to Mystic Falls because you think I am in danger."

"I would do anything to keep you safe, whether it makes you mad or not." He sighs. "But you are right. I cannot leave Lizzie. I would never forgive myself."

Caroline relaxes and lays back into his chest. She can't stops the sniffles that leave her. "I can't imagine how Hayley feels. You were two seconds away from being in her position Gabriel."

He tenderly rubs her leg hoping to offer her some kind of comfort. "I am well aware, Caroline. All we can do now is be there for her. I know you, you have a big heart and you want to fix everything but this can't be fixed."

Caroline just sighs and snuggles further into his chest willing the memories to go away.

Caroline and Gabriel stand with Elijah in the study when Klaus walks in looking angered. "Where the bloody hell is she?"

"I assume we are talking about Camille..." Elijah sarcastically mumbles, still looking down at all of his papers.

Klaus sighs in exasperation and Caroline offers him a sympathetic smile. Anyone could see how much he cared and worried for the woman. The man just didn't show it well.

"Just refresh my memory, Niklaus... was I the one who impulsively handed her a daylight ring? Oh, no, that's right. It was you." Elijah snarks.

"You gave her a daylight ring already?" Gabriel questions in surprise. The woman was obviously acting out due to her transition.

Klaus rolls his eyes. "She left, didn't she?"

"Shocking turn of events, yes. So, why don't you go and find her? I shall deal with the growing nightmare of our family's potential extinction." Elijah snaps.

"What Elijah means is there is a lot going on and your extinction should come before a baby vampire." Gabriel says unimpressed. Caroline not to subtly elbows in the stomach and he grunts.

"Yes, always the diligent defender, despite the fact that the danger has somewhat subsided, what, with Tristan de Martel now literally sleeping with the fishes? And if it were Caroline you would do the same thing. Do not patronize me."

" A darker threat remains. Now, if something out there is capable of killing us...We should probably find it." Elijah snaps.

Klaus groans. "I'd love to. However, I got Camille into this mess."

"It is not your fault that your psychotic ex girlfriend sliced her throat." Caroline growls. "That stupid red head is asking for it. You should have killed her when she first reappeared in New Orleans."

Klaus raises his eyebrows in surprise at her rather violent statement just as Hayley walks into the room. "She left around sunrise."

Hope squeals and points at Gabriel kicking her legs excitedly. Gabriel beams as he gently takes her from the woman's arm and she immediately takes his sleeve in a vice grip."My guess is that she needed some air?"

Klaus and Elijah continue to stare at her worriedly unsure of how she was doing.

"I couldn't sleep. I saw her leaving from my balcony." She tells the group and looks down to the ground. "So, I was wondering if maybe it was okay... if Hope and I stay here a few days?"

"Of course you can!" Caroline exclaims and all three Mikaelson brothers send her an amused look.

"I wasn't aware you controlled who came and went in this home." Klaus sarcastically mutters. Caroline gives him a tight smile. "I like it that way."

Elijah's phone buzzes and he gives it a skeptical look for a moment before excuses himself.

Klaus gives Hayley a genuine smile. "Hayley, this family comes with many, many hardships, but there is at least one benefit...you will always have a home here."

Hayley gives him a grateful glance as he leaves the room and she looks toward Gabriel and Caroline.

"If Klaus becomes too much you are more than welcomed in our home." Caroline tells her with a small smile.

"I might take you up on the offer. It may be safer for Hope anyways." Hayley sighs thinking about the odd situation the three were in.

"You're telling me that Aya, your ex lover, called you to tell your there's a weapon asides from the obvious white oak stake, out there that can kill us all." Gabriel remarks sarcastically.

"I thought the pale horse might be something Biblical, or even tied to one of the equestrian constellations. There's Pegasus, perhaps even Equuleus." Elijah tells his two brothers hoping they would too believe in it.

Klaus sighs in annoyance. "Neither of those sounds like a weapon, unless they plan to bore us to death. You know, it would be nice if, just once, the witches bloody well said what they mean."

Elijah and Gabriel share a knowing glance. "Camille has just turned, Niklaus. Leave her be."

"You two think I should abandon her, then?" He scoffs in disbelief,

Elijah sighs. "She's already served as a pawn in Aurora's games. Her distance would be a mercy. I need you both. A storm is coming."

Klaus and Gabriel both nod knowing they were in this together until the end.

Hayley and Caroline who had been playing with the little girls hear Cami come into the compound and go to find her.

"Look, I know it may not seem like it right now, but what you're going through? It does get better. And there are people around you that are willing to get you to that point." Hayley sympathetically tells her, though both women can tell she's not listening. Caroline nods her head and attempts to get her attention again. "I understand what it's like when people try to protect you from something you don't want to be protected from. Klaus may be over-barring right now... I get that feeling all too well since Gabriel literally compelled me to never come back to this town but in the end you understand why they did it and just set boundaries."

Still no response. Hayley sighs. "Cami...?"

Cami's head snaps to the two women and she smiles mockingly. "Yes. That's very sweet, Hayley, and I think you should take your own advice, you too Caroline."

Both women give her a confused glance and she snickers. "I mean, that is why you wanted to speak to me, right? To get some words of wisdom from the Mikaelson family therapist? I say admit it. It's not guilt, it's relief. And you Caroline, you know it's for the best but you're so desperate to be loved by him."

Caroline and Hayley's mouths drop is shock and hurt.

"What did you just say?" Hayley growls but cami plays dumb. "Oh, come on. It's just us girls! You don't have to deny it. It's obvious, you're in love with Gabriel, pretty awkward for Caroline, and now that Jackson's gone, you're free. It must be nice, like a weight lifted. And you Caroline, you're willing to put your daughter in danger just to be near him."

"You're going through a really hard time right now, Cami, but you are never, ever to speak to me of my husband again. Do you understand me?" Hayley takes a deep breath in attempt to calm herself and Caroline herself just lowly sighs and looks away knowing she had done and said some stupid stuff too in her transition, not that it didn't hurt.

Cami's face falls and she apologetically looks back and fourth between the two. "I... I don't know what's wrong with me. Why would I say that?"

Hayley looks away not forgiving the woman just yet and Caroline sighs again. "Your emotions are heightened. It's part of becoming a vampire."

"I think I wanted to make you two feel pain like I do. And so I said an evil, unfair thing... An untrue thing." Camille attempts to explain herself.

"It's fine. You're not you right now." Caroline tensely smiles.

Looking between the two women and noticing they had not relaxed one bit she slowly steps back. "I think maybe I should go home..."
Neither of them move to stop her so she rushes out.

Klaus and Gabriel walk into the room and upon realizing Camille wasn't there Klaus' eyes widen with panic. "Where is Camille?"

Hayley sighs. "She went home." Noticing the look he was giving her she scoffs. "She needed some time, and yes, I let her go. I know you think you're helping, but all you're doing is pissing her off, and that's the last thing she needs. Trust me."

Klaus eyes her up and down trying to reign in his anger knowing the hybrid had just gone through hell and Caroline rolls her eyes. " Listen, Klaus. The Cami that you knew is gone. And whoever she's gonna be is something that she has to figure out by herself. I'm not saying she's going to become a whole new person but becoming something you couldn't fathom becoming before changes you."

"Especially someone with her humanity and compassion." Gabriel quietly adds in. Klaus looks to the ground. "I just wanted to keep her safe."

"Yeah? Well, guess what. The people you think you're keeping safe? Elijah, Rebekah, even Hope? Sometimes, you do them more harm than good." Hayley tells him and Gabriel and Caroline wince knowing it's true but it was harsh.

Gabriel is pleasantly surprised when Klaus doesn't have a mean quip but stands there looking deep in thought. He suddenly huffs out a laugh. "What you just said keeping Rebekah safe? I know what the weapon is. I made it myself."

"Excuse me?" Gabriel questions as Caroline looks between the two with worry. "What do you mean you made a weapon that can kill us all?"

Instead of answering him he rushes down the stairs and into his study immediately beginning to tear through all boxes and shelves.

"All my efforts to protect and provide comfort for my family..." He mumbles to himself, his voice laces with self loathing.

Elijah worriedly shakes his head. "Niklaus, you are not making any sense."

"What weapon are they talking about?" Gabriel grits out in anger. Of course it's something that his siblings do that comes back to kill them, whats new?

"The pale horse! It isn't a constellation, nor is it a Biblical verse. It's a... a trinket I made when we were children. A toy carved from kindling which I gave to Rebekah in the hopes of easing her fears." He tells them all.

Elijah frowns in confusion and Gabriel's head drops in dread. "Bekah's comfort toy you carved her...."

"I collected the firewood myself. It was fallen branches from everywhere, and... The horse was made of the white oak..." Elijah's eyes widen in panic.

Caroline's mouth drops open in shock and she looks to Gabriel for his familiar comfort but he looked just as stressed as the rest of them.

"That weapon is here." Caroline screeches. "This entire time you have had it and never once remembered that your daughter was chewing on white oak!"

Klaus rolls his eyes and looks toward Hayley. "It could be in the apartment. Let's go."

Hayley hesitates, seemingly reluctant to go back to her and Jack's home but she relents knowing how important this was.

The three leave the room and Caroline walks toward Gabriel and gently takes his hand in her own. "Gabriel.."

Gabriel doesn't look up but rubs her hands as if she were a fragile piece of glass. "T-this prophecy.. These people want to end my family."

"You won't let them. The Mikaelson's won't let them." She strongly denies. "Look at how much your family has been through, your the only people to survive even Mystic Falls for gods sake!"

He shakes his head. "Mystic Falls was child's play compared to this, my love... These are vampires almost as old as I, hundreds of them. Dozens of the worlds most powerful witches we have never heard of. Enemies with grudges that have lasted hundreds of years. They will not hesitate to maim every single one of us... Including you and Izzie."

Caroline opens her mouth to scold him for speaking like that again but he silences her with a quick peck on the lips. "I am not ordering you to leave. All I am saying is perhaps it was more of a curse than a blessing to give her the Mikaelson last name."

"Lizzie will grow up with a big family who would die to protect her, Gabriel." She slightly frowns. "Being a Mikaelson comes with a fair share of enemies but it certainly does have its perks as well. She will be surrounded by aunts and uncles who love her and even a cousin the same age as her. They'll be best friends growing up and a bond as strong as yours and your brothers will grow. She will be happy."

He stays silent for a moment but slowly pulls her into his chest, he rests his chin on top of her head and sighs. "You have it all planned don't you?"

"I already have a binder for her first birthday party." She sheepishly admits. Gabriel roars in laughter, he should have expected as much already. As his laughter dies down his phone buzzes.

Taking it out of his pocket he raises a curious brow. "Nik is calling me already."

Caroline pulls a face. "Isn't he like right across the street?"

Gabriel huffs in annoyance and pulls the phone to his ear. "Nik-"

"Camille stole the horse. She stole the bloody white oak!" He snaps.

The color drains from Gabriel's face. "If you are telling me all of our lives are in danger because you couldn't let your therapist die I will kill you myself."

"She is at the cemetery. I will get it back from her, she only demands her dark objects in return." Klaus sighs.

Gabriel clenches his jaw. "Not only did this bloody moron steal the one thing that can kill our family but she went into witch territory with it? Is she trying to tease them with a good time? I am coming with you."

"No!" He instantly denies. "She will feel threatened if we both show up and try to take it from her and theres no telling what she may do."

"If you are suggesting that a vampire that is a week old can do anything to me I will be offended. I do not care if you love the woman, snap her neck and take it if you need to."

There is no response from the other line as Klaus hangs up the phone.

Gabriel closes his eyes and takes a deep breath as he attempts to calm himself.

Caroline curses herself. "Cami was saying some crazy stuff earlier, I'm sorry Gabriel. I should have said something."

Gabriel shakes his head. "You have nothing to apologize for, Care."

She frowns. "I should go check on Hayley. She never came back and I can't imagine how she feels being in that apartment."

"You are too kind for this world." He smiles down and her and leans down to kiss her forehead.

Tristian shouts as the magic around Caroline's heart begins burning him as if it were vervain. He yanks his arm out and Caroline loudly gasps.

Hayley watches anxiously unsure of what the man would do now.

"It seems I've underestimated him." Tristian grunts. "No matter. I've placed some insurance in you while you were unconscious." He walks away and Hayley doesn't take her eyes off of him until he's out of sight.

Caroline screams in agony as she falls to her knees in front of Lizzie's crib. "Gabriel!" She cries out but the home is empty and there is no one to hear her please.

Caroline lays in a bed with grey veins slowly crawling up her legs, Gabriel pacing back and fourth in front of her.

"Gabriel?"

His eyes snap open in slight panic and he scans her figure. "My apologies."

"Is everything okay?" She skeptically questions.

Though strained, he manages to smile. "Fine. But before you leave..." He yanks her closer and smashes his lips on her own, she slightly gasps but quickly reciprocates. After a moment she smacks his chest and turns toward the door with a laugh. "I am leaving now before we end up christening Klaus' study."

As she leaves the room she misses how Gabriel's eyes slowly open to reveal a glowing blue. She misses the devastation that takes over his whole body. And she misses him clenching the small black box he had pulled out of his pocket.

Caroline enters the hybrids apartment quietly, she had received no answer when she knocked on the door but allowed herself in when she didn't receive a response.

She pauses at the bottom of the staircase and her face drops. Hayley could be seen sitting on the floor of the kitchen, leaning against the cabinets sobbing. Upon noticing Caroline's presence and her teary eyes filled with sympathy she slightly calms down.

"I don't know what to say that could make you feel better." Caroline honestly admits.

Hayley takes a deep breath. "I've spent the last 24 hours being so angry at Tristan, at the Mikaelsons, at you... At Jackson, even, for always being so brave. I mean you almost died too, but... you survived."

"And Jackson didn't." Caroline finishes looking to the floor solemnly.

"But then, I realized that I'm not angry. I'm not mad... I'm just guilty."Hayley cries. Caroline takes a seat beside her and grabs her hand in comfort.: " I wanted to blame you, blame Gabriel, blame anyone... But the truth is that my husband died because he loved me."

"And loving me and the Mikaelson's is a death sentence... Isn't it?"

Caroline purses her lips. "I am still alive, you are still alive. We may have lost some people along the way but we are alive. We survived. We have to live for them. We live for our children and we live for those that didn't make it. It's what they would have wanted."
