"What makes me different from all the others?" I asked my husband one day, while tucked under the warm comforts of sheets at night.

"Oh dear! Where did that question come from?" He said, surprised. I chuckled. I must have given him a fright.

"Oh, I've just been thinking," I murmured, my head slightly ringing, "Why did you choose me from all the others? Weren't I... a bother?"

For a moment he looked away, a serious glimmer in his eyes. Then he turned around and smiled. "Is this a trick question?"

"No. I want to know how you feel. Maybe it's the aftereffects of having wine with a meal?"

He sighed but seemed to comply. Sliding under the covers, he propped himself into a sitting position, and I rested my head on his thigh, staying silent as the time went by.

I jolted slightly when he began to speak. "We've been married eleven years. Before then, you were just one of my peers. To everyone else, you seemed average, but to me, you were a whole new world."

"Really?"

He stroked my face gently, smiling. "Yes. At the time, you and I lived in different worlds. I was the popular guy, you were the lonesome girl who didn't give anyone a passing glance."

"Hey!" I lightly shoved his shoulder, and he gave a chuckle.

"I've always noticed you. We attended an extraordinary school, but you seemed ordinary. You seemed... normal."

"Normal?" I wondered out loud.

"Yes," He gently stroked my cheek. "You were like everyone else. You were pretty average to be honest. But you were also your own person. You were your own individual. And that has made all the difference."

I looked at his eyes which seemed to glisten under the fading light. He appeared forlorn, but breathtakingly beautiful. To me, he was a sentient being that could never be a part of my world. Yet, here he was with me in the unknown. I traced his visage, and hugged him. Indeed, falling in love with him seemed like a privilege.

"I never knew you could fall in love with normal."

"If I may be so formal, then yes, I am in love with your normal. So let's grow old together, my love."

"As long as you're here with me."
