Safe place

Aggressive knocking echoed through a quiet home, there was yelling on the outside of the front door till a maiden and Mel ran to the front in confusion what the commotion at this time of night could be.

"Who is it?" Mel held her white silk robe over her body while her maiden checked the peep hole to make sure it wasn't dangerous. She gasped at the sight and immediately opened the door before Mel gave her permission.

Mel covered her mouth in horror when Jayce stormed in with powder still unconscious in his arms, her limbs dangling and her head rested against his chest.

"Mel, she was attacked, I don't know-I don't know if she's hurt or what happened," Jayce had tears in his eyes as Mel was still in shock.

"Lock all doors and windows in case they followed, bring her to my room, she'll be safe here," Mel guided them back as she could hear how out of breath the man was but he kept moving forward to bring his little sister to safety.

He laid powder on the bed, Mel checked her pulse while he searched for any injuries. There was no blood but just grime from the smoke that covered her skin.

"Who would attack her?" Mel asked touching her hand, sitting on the bed.

"I don't know they left before I got a good look, they didn't hurt her it seems.. but they wanted to take her not kill her," Jayce knelt on the floor exhausted from the run from his home.

"who would go this far to try to take her?" He whispered covering his face. Sitting on the ground with his back against the bed, away from the two.

"We'll find whoever tried to hurt her, but for now, she's okay, she's breathing, just seems like she's unconscious and nothing more, we'll wait," Mel joined him on the ground but Jayce didn't look at her.

"I heard her scream for me, a bomb went off, I heard a gunshot, and I was useless on the other side of a door," Jayce clasped his hands together.

"God what the hell was that?" He growled.

It made no sense.

Powders blue eyes fluttered open as she whined a little turned to her side, her ears rung and head spun when she pushed herself up. She looked ahead and recognized it was a familiar home, a familiar smell.

Then she remembered everything.

"Powder your okay," Jayce looked behind him as she had a panic look in her eyes.

"Jayce..." her breath picked up and he wrapped his arms around the small girl.

"It's okay pow, you're safe," he reminded her and a tear ran down her face before hugging him back.

"Jayce, I was so scared," powder admitted quietly.

"I'm so sorry," he held the back of her head.

"Who was that? Why did they want me?" She sniffled wiping her tears quickly.

"I don't know but we're going to find out, no one is ever going to take you from us," he held her face gently and wiping the tears streak that made a clear stripe from where the smoke left grime on her face.

She nodded with wide eyes still, she was shaking in fear from the attack, they weren't robbing her, killing her, what did they want? She shot one of them but they still were going to take her.

Powder could hear a certain whirling buzz sound, looking over her shoulder with a shaken breath but saw nothing. Jayce had a worried look on his face and pulled her back to focus on him and Mel.

"Get some sleep kiddo, we still have a lot to do tomorrow," he said softly and powder grabbed his wrist, tugging a little on his sleeve.

"I'm not going anywhere," Jayce assured her.

"Okay," she whispered letting go. Trusting.

"Let me grab you a change of clothes darling, Jayce I want a word with you before we all go to sleep," Mel smiled kindly as Jayce stood up. Powder laid down and watched them leave the room in a hushed tone, she wondered how long she was out for. She was grateful Jayce brought her to Mel. She was grateful to have people that cared about her like they did.

She took the braids out of her hair and rolled over to do the second one. Looking out the window at the night as she was paranoid they'd come back.

The leader made sure they didn't hurt her, who could it have been... a part of her wondered if it was someone from the undercity. But now? Why would someone come for her now, no one there wanted her back. Was it vi? No they were men that came for her it seemed like.

A thought that hasn't crossed her mind in a long time made her feel sick. Where was vi now?

That's not her sister. Vi abandoned her. She didn't want vi to find her, she was happy here, she was fed and educated with a future. She didn't need her past to come find her.

The thoughts of her old home clouded her mind, her chest felt heavy as she watched the window still. A green hue light in the distance caught her attention but she pulled the pillow closer.

The mist was coming, like something is brewing about to begin.
