Safe and sound

"VI!" Powder shrieked as she flew through the window, she had her hands stretched out to find anything to grab but she was in the mid air. Her breath was stolen from her lungs as she waited to hit ground.

Scar came around quickly as he tried to catch powder, but her momentum made them both fall, but the blow was softened by the firelights attempt, they rolled across the ground. Scar rolled back to his feet as powder gasped for a breath laying on her side.

Powder breathed harshly through her nose and sat up grabbing her gun, enraged she shot her blast at the window before anyone could stop her. But it was to high and she knew it was a fail.

"No.." her voice shook pushing herself to her feet.

"No no no no! No!" She screamed throwing her gun to the side with rage. Scar caught it before it hit him and walked towards the girl.

"That's it!" She grabbed the sides of her hair.

"We gotta go," the other firelight girl sailed past them on her hoverboard.

"I can't go! Don't you understand? That was my one shot! Now Silco knows, fuck!" Powder threw her hands up in the air storming off.

Scar stood in front of her and she glared up at the tall chirean.

He grabbed her wrist and put her gun back in her hands. A firm nod and pushed it back to her.

Powder held it close to her chest and sighed nodding.

"Alright, but... I gotta go home, I'm going to find the others," she whispered taking the gemstone out of her gun and placed the weapon inside the jacket.

"Shit, it was all for nothing," she held up the gemstone with disappointment. It was all her fault. She really was a no good jinx.

Scar got back on his board and motioned for powder to get on, she took a step on the back and held onto the back of him to escape before silco's goons came after them. They flew fast away from the scene, powder looked behind to see if vi was in sight.

Run.

Everyone was telling her to run... why? Why wouldn't they let her help? Why did vi tell her to run? Was it a threat? She was threatening to run before she had to really hurt her.

Powder felt a wave of sorrow wash over her, how afraid she felt when vi just raised her hand, and when she was thrown around like she was nothing. She threw her out the window.

She wouldn't let herself cry over it, after everything, powder wouldn't let vi make her cry anymore.

Before she knew it they made it to miners tunnel that was familiar. She hopped off and looked at the others but they weren't to follow.

"Thank you for everything," powder saluted to them with two fingers to her forehead and walked backwards into the tunnel to get back to topside.

Powder hummed to herself as she crawled up a ladder in the dark, holding the gemstone between her teeth to light around her, she touched the top and felt metal, she pushed the top more and moved the manhole cover with a grunt.

She peaked her head out and looked around the quiet streets. It was the edge of the lanes where the markets she was familiar with were. Powder pulled herself out and quietly placed the cover on the hole again. Dropped the gemstone back in her hand to put in her pocket.

It was a few hours before the sun rose but when she took a deep breath she didn't realize how much easier it was to breathe.

Powder hummed again her tune while shoving her hands in the pockets of Ekkos large jacket. Why did he wear such a big jacket, it almost touched her ankles, it was longer than her hair on her.

Where should she go? Find Caitlyn at her home? Or did they take Ekko to the council immediately.

Powder walked the silent streets of piltover and after a while she found herself outside the university.

"Hold it," a stern voice shouted behind her and powder put her hands up to show no weapon.

"Turn around!" It was a few enforcers as they raised their guns at her. She was dirty, bloodied and wearing a graffiti jacket, she of course looked like the enemy.

"My name is powder talis," she turned around tilted her head to the side.

"I'm looking for Caitlyn, she's with a friend of mine," powder kept her hands up.

"Lower your weapons, Marcus will want to deal with it," one of the enforcers raised their hand now.

"Kid your pushing buttons, go home," they knew the blue hair girl and her mischievous ways.

"Have you seen Caitlyn?" Powder sighed relieved and put her hands down finally.

"Nah, shes been gone for a few days," they waved her off and left the girl in the streets.

Powder pursed her lips and took off running to find her friends, begging for the enforcers to not be the same towards Ekko if that's how they were with her.

"Cait? Caitlyn!" Powder called for her in the empty streets.

"Ekko!" She yelled louder.

"Ekko!"

"Powder!"

She spun around hearing her name, she listened hopping it wasn't her own head making them up again. She was so tired but her feet picked up to run towards the voice. She sprinted full speed calling for him in the empty streets.

She turned a sharpe corner and slid a little. There stood Ekko looking winded as he had a fearful look on his face. Tears of relief welled up in her eyes once more as she sprinted to him, they collided into each other with small 'oofs' but didn't let go once they were embraced, Ekko stepped back so they didn't fall but lifted her off her feet.

"Are you okay?" ekko held her tight, placing her back on the ground, powder shook her head and covered her face.

"I didn't do it, I didn't kill him," powder whispered.

"I can't believe I failed," she stayed strong to not cry but her heart hurt.

"It's okay," he placed his gloved hand on the side of her face.

"Where's Caitlyn?" Powder leaned into his touch without thinking.

"Some enforcers took her with her captain, it happened so fast but they tried to grab me too," ekko explained shaking his head not so sure what the motive was.

"They arrested her?" She asked not understanding.

"No I don't think so, but I'm not sure what they were doing either," he looked over her shoulder hearing people. Pulling powder closer Incase the enforcers would attack.

"Let's go," powder grabbed him and lead him away from the chaos.

"Did you know the enforcers were barricading the bridge?" He asked as they picked up the pace and followed her.

"They what?" She didn't know.

"They know something's up," he explained.

"Once we're safe you have to tell me what happened on the bridge," powder told him, what did she miss and how did he get through. And on whose order barricaded the bridge.

Powder reached in her overalls and pulled out a small ring of a few keys, they got to a home that was familiar, powder unlocked the door and pulled Ekko in quietly before she locked the door behind her.

With every step powder felt herself getting exhausted, it's been well over 24 hours since she left and she only slept when Ekko found her in the undercity, after she got beaten, but she now that she was home she felt heavier.

Their boots echoed on the wooden floors of the home, Ekkos footsteps  were heavier as he walked letting his own exhaustion wash over.

"Take a seat, I'll get you something to eat," powder motioned for him to go to their living room area as he saw a high ceiling giant room, a kitchen connected to a lounging area and large windows to the balcony. The sky was starting to turn more purple to red as it was getting close to the sunrise.

Ekko sat and melted a little into the sofa, pleasantly surprised by the comfort.

Powder came back after a moment with some food for him, she sat on the sofa and laid down on her side as Ekko ate a little.

"Aren't you going to eat?" Ekko asked.

"I'm not hungry right now, I'm really tired," powder rested her head on her arms, curling up in a ball a little.

"Is this your home?" Ekko looked around at the nicer house.

"You should know, you broke in," she closed her eyes smiling a little. Ekko smiled at the tease and found himself laying down on the sofa on his side, powder opened an eye to see what he was doing.

She scooted up to face him as they were like six inches away from their faces, she giggled at how they seemed upside down from each other and Ekko looked away shy by how close they were.

"I just want to rest for a few hours," powder said softly looking at him.

"Are you sure you're not hurt?" Ekko asked once more with concern.

"I'll live to see another day," she hummed closing her eyes again.

Ekko didn't smile at her response this time. He was still full of worry for her. Two days ago she was living as a pilty in luxury, and it was his fault that she was apart of this now.

He finally looked at her now that her eyes were closed, studying her face for the first time, amazed how much seven years changed them both. But she still had her light freckles on her face, she still had some roundness to her cheeks, but now there would be new scars from the time in the under city. But Ekko couldn't take his eyes off of her. He found her incredibly brave for coming to help not knowing what was truly in store for her. He couldn't believe she was given one of their flares from an ally to find him.

But he found himself dozing off as well and let himself fall asleep, it was quiet. Usually it would've made him feel uneasy with the silence but he felt safe, maybe cause it was her home.

But he appreciated knowing for once what it felt like. It's been so long that he could feel safe on his own.
