Pawn shop
Powder and Caitlyn kept their heads down and attention off while the blue hair girl took the lead knowing exactly where she wanted to go. Caitlyn couldn't help herself from looking around here and there in curiosity of the misfits and the poverty of the undercity.
She could feel a certain aura off powder, the way her shoulders moved while she walked, confidence in her steps as she kept her eyes ahead. But they got to a shop and powder looked up at the sign. Pawn shop.
Powder opened the door wide when she walked in, looking around curiously as the bell rang when the door opened.
"In a minute!" A voice yelled back and she looked around at the items that were new now. It wasn't much different than seven years ago, same set up different junk.
"What could you want at a pawn shop?" Caitlyn pulled her hood up as powder wondered around.
"Well this is where it all started, where we got the tip about Jayce," powder hummed.
"P-jinx, this isn't about tips," Caitlyn kept still and before she could say anything else a large tall young man walked in with a box full of items.
"You shopping or selling?" The man asked with a scoff at them.
"I'm just looking," powder hummed.
"One of my friends comes here," she told him calmly and picked up a small hand watch.
"Well no friends are here, if your not looking to sell or to buy then get," the man sat in the chair that was still a little to big for him. It was benzos.
"I'm just looking for little man," powder looked over her shoulder at him.
The man narrowed his eyes at her, she could see a scar on the edge of his face that covered his ear and half his neck, the scar barely touched his cheek though.
"Claggor is your name right?" She asked carefully and he looked even more annoyed.
"And who the hell do you think you are looking for little man?" He stood up not recognizing the blue hair girl.
"Hold it," Caitlyn noticed the way the man was getting defensive. He was much taller and bigger than them.
"I don't need any pretentious idiots talking their shit in here like they know a thing, out," the man walked around the desk but powder didn't move.
"Jinx let's go he's not here," Caitlyn begged.
"How about I meet you outside girlscout, it'll be only a second," powder smiled back at her and adjusted her gun in her hand. Caitlyn pursed her lips and took a deep breath.
"Five minutes, or I'm back in here and pissed," Caitlyn glared at them both before leaving, slamming the door behind her.
The two were left alone, one thinking it was a troubled stranger and the other knowing it was someone she use to look up too.
"Sorry about her, she's not from the area," powder smiled leaning against the counter as claggor circled around the room suspicious of her.
"And you are?" He huffed.
"I was, but life happens and I've been gone for some time, never thought I'd come back, till little man dropped by so nicely," she drooped her head to the side shrugging.
"You're not getting anything from me, if Silco is sending little rodents to do his dirty work now," claggor growled and powders eyes flickered up at him.
"Wow im really hurt, maybe this ol pow pow should just go find the next friendly face 'round here," she hummed with fake disappointment pushing herself off the counters edge.
"Is Milo around?" She asked.
Claggor stopped and looked at her. The blue hair that hung past her knees and the mischief in her eyes, her smile sent a shiver down his spine.
"Powder?" Claggor breathed.
"I prefer jinx," she laughed a little grabbing her gun.
"Powder it's really You," he reached and grabbed her arm. Powders face dropped as the voices got louder in her ear, flash backs of the older kids looking down on her for being weak. Vivid images as if they were monsters of her past. She ripped her arm back but kept her gun pointed down.
"Where have you been?" Claggor asked still in disbelief.
"If you can't help me then I'm finding someone else," powder looked him in the eyes.
"Who? Someone like vi?" Claggor whispered as if someone else was listening.
Powders face twitched at the name.
"No I don't need to find vi," she shook her head quietly.
Claggor looked at her as his defense went down, it was her. Their little powder that they thought died seven years ago. But he never saw the body, but who would lie about her death.
"So you've seen Ekko, trust me that makes one of us, I haven't seen him in years either, now that he's leading the rebellion," he glanced at the door.
"He doesn't keep you in touch?" She asked curiously.
"No he doesn't, it's some pretty serious stuff and he doesn't play about his hideout," claggor shrugged, not much more he could offer. "I don't know anything,"
"Then I'm off, thanks still claggor," powder nodded understanding.
"What are you doing here then powder?" The older man asked before she left.
"I just wanted to know who's running this old place, my next stop is the last drop," she explained as her hand touched the door knob.
"Milo won't know anything either, and you shouldn't go there," claggor warned carefully.
"Why not?" Powder raised her brow.
"That's violets territory,"
—
Caitlin jumped when the door opened, powder and claggor walked out together.
"Don't worry I won't say a word about powder being back, jinx is your name down here right?" Claggor asked and Caitlyn looked at him surprised.
"Right, powder stays dead," she agreed moving a braid off her shoulder.
"Do stay safe though, I'll be here for whenever you need me," he touched her shoulder. But placed a flare inside her bag without breaking eye contact.
"Thanks clag , come on cait we gotta keep moving," powder motioned her to follow as Caitlyn kept an eye on claggor when they walked till he was out of sight.
"Who was that even?" The older girl asked in a harsh whisper.
"We grew up together," powder shrugged and opened a small piece of paper that was slipped to her from claggor.
"I didn't know he would be there though, little man use to live there with the original owner," she read the note and looked up at the gloomy grey sky.
"What does it say?" Caitlyn asked seeing her reaction.
"Light and he'll find you? What does that mean?" She asked even more confused. Powder reached in her bag and held a flare torch, this was easily zaun material, dirty metal with a specific smell to it.
"It seems pretty straight forward," powder smiled up at her.
"Great, are we just walking around aimlessly? Or are you going to light it?" Caitlyn made a face but powders smile grew.
"Exactly," she giggled.
The older girl huffed in annoyance of not knowing what anything here meant. How powder seemed comfortable and knowing how to act but this girl lived in topside for seven years... she grew up in piltover, from a child to a teenager to the young adult she is now, that is growing up.
But maybe this 'jinx' is who she was in the undercity. Keeping powder safe and away.
"So why is he called little man? Is he an elf?" Caitlyn teased a little and powder smiled shaking her head.
"That's just what we've always called him but it's one that only close people know, his old man I think came up with it, but it's one of those if you know then you know," powder riddled simply.
"I don't know," Caitlyn mumbled.
"Why don't you just light it?" She asked reaching for the torch but powder held it away from her.
"You can't just light it Willy nilly, especially down here, I'll light it when I need it," powder put the torch away.
"Then how are we suppose to get the answers for my theories down here? That's the whole reason I came with and also for you not to die," Caitlyn rolled her eyes.
Powder hummed a little pursing her lips and pulled Caitlyn to an ally to keep their words private.
"You can try the last drop, it's a pub close by," powder gulped a little.
"Alright? Do you know who's there?" Caitlyn was confused by the secrecy of this pub.
"Not who's there but claggor told me who claimed it, and they can't know about me being in the undercity," the younger girl looked to the side seeing if they were being followed.
"Your not coming with?"
"I can't, I can't risk them knowing... please don't say my name, don't say powder, don't say jinx, don't say little man or even claggor, we don't know these animals, we don't want them knowing your trail," powder explained seriously. She needed Caitlyn to take this serious, it wasn't a joke for once.
"And for fuck sake, do not tell them your topside, they'll tear you apart,"
Caitlyn held her breath for a moment with fear crawling up her spine. She didn't want to go alone all of a sudden, she wished her kind of friend would go with her, lead the way or at least show her. But she wanted to come along, this was a price she had to pay.
"What else do I need to know?" Caitlyn whispered looking down.
"Don't spend it all in one place but get your answers," powder placed a bag of coins in the topsiders hand and pushed it to her.
"Please be safe, I don't want to deal with your mom's wrath," she smiled sweetly up at the tall girl. Caitlyn knew that smile, it was fake, it was her trying to hide the nerves of splitting up. Maybe she didn't want to either but she truly couldn't go with. Not that far.
"Where will you be?" Caitlyn asked. "I can't handle Viktors wrath,"
"I'm going to see if I can get little man but I'm going to find Silco, I don't need to talk I want action," powder shrugged patting her pocket as a hint.
"But get the hell out of there if you can, come find me if you see this smoking," she motioned to the flare and Caitlyn nodded understanding.
"I'll see you soon," Caitlyn touched the top of her shoulder in reassurance. Powder nodded back with a grin.
