Goodbye
Powder held on the back of Ekko on his board as he quietly maneuvered to the building powder directed him to, he remembered the window and backwards so she could unlock it from the outside. Seemed someone else was use to sneaking around pilty.
She quietly opened the window and stretched her leg in as Ekko assisted her so she didn't fall.
"Thanks for the ride," powder whispered as she leaned against the ledge.
"Of course," Ekko pursed his lips.
"Even though you're a topsider now, I'm glad your alive pow," he smiled a little again. Relief of her living... if there was a bright side to the situation at least she lived somewhere safe.
"I promise, I'll do good with hextech, I won't let it hurt the undercity, that was my home still," she reassured him.
"I thought about everything before powder... stay out of the undercity," Ekko said quietly.
"I understand.." she felt a little disappointment if that meant she wasn't welcomed there ever again.
"No no, it's not that I don't want you there, it's just a lot has changed, it's ran by silco, it's chaos, it's war, I don't want to get caught up in that kind of junk, we lose people we care about to often there," ekko tried to explain.
"I know I said come with me but maybe one day it'll be over... I'll come back for you when it is," he offered to her with a sad expression.
"It's gotten that bad?" Powder asked worried.
"Ever since..." Ekko stopped himself knowing what he would say could cause her to freak out again.
"Everyone looks out for themselves down there, that's why I made the firelights, a safe haven for people who need peace, people who want to fight for peace," he nodded slowly avoiding telling her the truth.
"You've always been a good person little man, please stay safe if it's as bad as you say," powder pushed her bangs out of her face.
"You too powder, I'll see you one day," Ekko held his hand out for her.
Powder smiled more and placed her palm over his gloved hand, sliding their hands back and snapping their fingers into finger guns. Like they did as kids.
Ekko nodded in farewell and took off leaving powder at her window.
"See you around boy savior," she whispered sad to see her old friend leave.
Powder was alone again, alone In her room, alone in her thoughts.
This whole time he thought she was dead. Did Vi think she was dead too?
What was going on in the undercity? What did Silco do? Where was everyone now?
Powder exhaled a deep breath rubbing her face, smudging her light make up, pulling her hands up to her hair and turned to go find Jayce.
She walked down the hall and knocked on her guardians door three times. It was so late but she wanted to make sure he was okay.
"Jay?" She called placing her hand on the door.
The door immediately swung open and the older man stood there wide eyes, still wearing his clothes from earlier but no jacket.
"Powder?" He looked at her in disbelief.
"Oh my god powder your okay right? Tell me if your hurt," Jayce grabbed her upper arms.
"I'm not hurt," she told him quietly.
"Fuck pow.. what happened? Caitlyn said they got you, someone took you?" Jayce gripped her tightly, needing answers.
Powders jaw trembled as she felt tears weld up in her eyes. Breathing heavy trying to hold it all in.
"What happened? Please tell me," Jayce begged pushing her bangs back and held the back of her head.
"I don't know," she hiccuped and fell against him. Jayce pulled her close and held her head against his shoulder, she once again was like the little girl that he found years ago, a child that was lost in life and scared of abandonment.
"I think I failed, I failed them all," powder cried covering her face.
"My dad's dead," she cried. She barely could remember her mother, no memory of what her real father looked like but she remembered vander. He was her father. And he wasn't coming for her like she use to wish he did. She use to wish he would come find her and tell her he never was going to leave her again.
She thought he left her behind like Vi did.
"Your dad? Pow I thought you said he's been dead," Jayce was confused.
"No, vander, I thought he left me to the enforcers but he's been dead this whole time, I've hated him this whole time but I didn't know," powder felt the guilt of her emotions in the past choke her. Like she couldnt breathe.
"How could I think he wouldn't come save me that night? He loved us and I thought-I thought-" she gasped for air and Jayce held her even tighter. She didn't make sense but it was obviously from her past that came back.
"I'm sorry powder," was all Jayce could think to say. But he was here, he was here for her, they were family.
Powder finally hugged him back as she calmed down fully, exhaustion washed over her and she laid against his shoulder.
"It was a friend of mine that took me before, he saved me from the guys that shot the enforcers," she admitted.
"You knew him?" Jayce asked not following.
"Same guy that tried to kidnap me last night too," she shrugged as if it was no problem.
"The hell, who is this guy?" Jayce was baffled.
"I can't say his name, but it was my childhood friend, he told me the undercity thinks I'm dead, he did too till yesterday," powder sighed keeping her nose against his shirt, the smell of metal and cologne comforted her like an older sibling.
"Guess some things never stay dead," she yawned a little.
They stayed there in the comfortable silence, just knowing the other wasn't hurt after what happened.
There was times in powders younger years where she would get so worked up over her mental state that she just leaned her face into Jayce's back when he was working or reading or even just talking to people, and over a few times of that he started to just pull her for a full embrace with his large arms and held her. Knowing it was the reassurance she wanted. No words were usually said during the interaction, just letting powder breathe again. And there was plenty of times she would just fall asleep like that and he wouldn't move, he wouldn't dare move.
"We should probably get some sleep, I just needed to know they didnt get you," powder muttered with her face against his shirt.
"I didn't know when I'd see you, Caitlyn told me she saw you get ripped away, I was so scared to lose you pow pow," Jayce brushed the back of her blue hair and she squeezed him tighter right back.
"I know Jay, I'm sorry to scare you," she whispered, her grey blue eyes looking over his shoulder out the window, in the far far distance she could see the bridge that separated piltover and zaun. The bridge that would take her to a place that she once called home.
