Case and point
"Powder!" Caitlyn ran ahead as she saw the long blue hair girl walking down the streets the next day by herself. She ran up to her but stopped to catch her breath as powder turned around confused.
"I thought-" Caitlyn wheezed and held up her hand to give her a second.
"I thought those animals got you!" She cried out still panting.
"Aw you were worried about little ol me?" Powder grinned mischievously at the girl bend down in front of her.
"I thought you got taken or worse! Of course I was worried!" Caitlyn grabbed her shoulders shaking the smaller girl.
"Geez you're dramatic, I'm tougher than I look," powder grabbed her arms to make her stop.
"I had this whole thing when Viktor came over first thing in the morning, shook me awake," powder huffed annoyed by all the attention last night gained.
"Powder last night you- I- I'm sorry," Caitlyn took a deep breath to try stop her shaking. Powder pursed her lips but shrugged.
"Nothing to be sorry for, I'm sorry about your colleagues, they didn't deserve that," power crossed her arms.
"Thank you, the funeral will be later today, and Marcus might want to talk to you," Caitlyn told her and power glared.
"I'm not going, Marcus is bad news I'm telling ya," the blue hair girl warned and Caitlyn perked up at that. No one's ever dared spoken poorly about Marcus.
"Yea why him?" Caitlyn hummed intrigued.
Powder glared shaking her head, not wanting to say it in public.
"I'm off duty today, let's go to my place, I want to show you something," Caitlyn motioned her to follow. "Plus I have a present for you,"
"Oh why didn't you say so Girl Scout?" Powder followed immediately liking the idea of a present.
-
Powder closed the large doors to Caitlyn's giant room so they would be alone, Caitlyn had a map out and pictures all around of crime scenes, people, locations all of piltover.
Powder looked at it slowly and paused seeing a blurry picture of a figure in the sky, it was obviously Ekko, if not one of his people. She knelt down picking it up curiously, it was at the cargo launch.
"Tell me more of Marcus," Caitlin asked.
"I don't wanna talk dumb shit about your glorious enforcer leader," powder set the picture down rolling her eyes.
"Powder if there's one thing about you I trust, it's your judgment, you've always found people to be close with and who to stay away from, you don't fall for the fake act," she acknowledged as powder sat on the ground studying the scene in front of her.
"Marcus is the one that arrested me, and I'm pretty sure he has something to do with benzo's death," powder looked at her seriously.
"My s-friend called the enforcer that vander had an alliance with, same night everything went to hell, same day, Marcus is suddenly chief or whatever, I don't like people who are hungry for power, it rottens their soul," she explained rubbing her neck.
"You think Marcus killed them?" Caitlyn clarified.
"No, I don't think he'd get his hands dirty like that," powder corrected.
"So what's your art project you been working on?" She motioned to the blue prints and maps and pictures scattered around the floor.
"Its a case and I think I've made a huge break in it, that there a single mind behind the undercity violence, someone that doesn't mind getting their hands dirty," Caitlyn sat on the ground across from powder.
"Is this what you've been talking to Jayce about for the past few months?" Powder asked raising a brow.
"I've had to keep it on the down low, Marcus hasn't been letting me get to close but yesterday there was also an attack at the cargo," Caitlyn pointed to the mysterious picture of the people that must be fighting along side of Ekko.
"I think whoever attacked last night is the suspect," she slid over a few more pictures of the attack last night.
"You getting away was their slip up," the dark hair girl grinned and powder picked up the new pictures and it was the figures from last night.
"How was that their slip up?" Powder asked unsure.
"Because of who you shot, he's been taken to the prison, his people left him behind," Caitlyn smiled proudly. Powder looked at the man that was taken. She recognized him. He was there with Silco when vander was taken.
"They've kept their smuggling local In the undercity, low priority, and the attack in the square changes things," she explained.
"If I can find out who this man works for we get one step closer to finding who is the ring leader," Caitlyn spoke quickly with excitement that she was correct about her conspiracy.
Powder could tell she wants to break this case and be the hero but she already knew. The man that was once vanders brother, the man who wanted vander dead and succeeded. He broke the undercity peace and from what Ekko told her, it was war. It wasn't safe for her and it won't ever be safe for a born and raised pilty.
"You're crazy, you think it's one guy?" Powder snorted shaking her head.
"It's organized," Caitlyn nodded.
"Girl Scout listen, I was born in this hellhole, there are so many gangs, so many territorial nutjobs, by the time you find out this one there's a bigger and badder one around the corner," powder sighed pushing herself up to stand.
"I'm sorry but these shimmer smuggles aren't anywhere close to being done, the undercity is addicted to the chaos," she shrugged but Caitlyn frowned.
"You know it's the shimmer?" Caitlyn asked confused.
"Duh, that shit rots you from the inside out, whoever has the shimmer has the power," she nodded like it was obvious.
"Do you have connections in Zaun?" Caitlyn asked slowly.
"What's it to you?" The powder crossed her arms.
Caitlyn reached under her bed and slid a box over to powder, the younger girl knelt down to open it only to see her hand gun safe and sound from the night before.
"Aw hell yea junior, you found her," powder smiled brightly at her invention weapon.
"My present I promised," Caitlyn sighed with a small smile.
"Your connections?" She asked again. Powder looked at her seeing this was now an investigation of what she knew of her old home.
"Ha no, those died seven years ago, quite literally," powder scoffed shaking her head.
"The undercity has its own problems, leave it to them to fix it," she turned to leave.
"Their own problems killed our people," Caitlyn snapped.
"And your people made our problems, it's a full circle toots," powder groaned leaning her head back.
"Your little spills are their messes, the water they drink and the air they breathe, because you think they're breathing living garbage," she turned slowly to face the older girl.
"Maybe the sheriff is right about this one, keep your nose out of the undercity, with your ridiculous theories," powder warned.
"And maybe you should figure out who's side your on, you seem to put yourself on both," Caitlyn narrowed her eyes. Powder glared down at her as cait stayed kneeling on the ground looking at her map and suspects.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Powder hissed.
"You said we and our and us, you act like one of us but you refer yourself as one of them," she clarified calmly.
"Ok, then how should I refer myself as Miss know it all?" Powder put a hand on her hip and blew her hair out of her face.
"As a talis," Caitlyn said matter of fact.
"Then why do you still talk down on me as a zaunie?" She raised her brow tilting her head to the side.
"I-I don't-" "look I don't take offense to it, not from a kiramman at least, but know your place too, i know mine," powder stopped her from trying to defend herself.
Powder left Caitlyn in her room as walked away knowing the kiramman household enough to leave. No matter what side she claimed herself is, she would always be some sort of jinx. That's was her place.
—
Powders leg bounced on the side of her desk as she worked on her pow pow junior in her private lab in the academy, sitting on her desk with her tools sprawled around her. Whenever she was upset of any sort she fiddled with any of her inventions, it's how they've gotten to far and gone to the extreme. Nothing to lose.
She heard the door open and listened for footsteps, these ones had a cane tapping along the steps. She looked over seeing Viktor.
"And what are you making now?" The fellow undercity citizen sat in the empty chair next to her.
"Just making sure pj is good to go," powder didn't care if he yelled at her for weapons. She didn't want to talk about last night or the night before.
"Good," Viktor nodded, resting his arm on the top of his cane.
"Good? That's the first," she laughed sarcastically.
"With how these nights have been going, protect yourself powder," Viktor watched her tinker.
"And the mental state has been..?" He asked slowly. She gave him a look.
"With how everything has been going to hell, with the professor, with the hextech, the attacks, it's all been going to shit, my god damn jinx just never wants to take a break," powder dropped her tools aggressively and slid back.
"And to find out my people from the under city thought I've been dead like vander who has been dead for years, I'm guessing Ekko knows who else is too but let's keep it a surprise right? Cause I'm fucking crazy let's just keep surprising me," she laughed with no humor, the sneer on her face made her laugh bitter.
"Ah, there is more," Viktor smiled a little with sympathy for the poor girl.
"I just want to help, why is that so impossible for me?" Powder curled herself up in a ball, resting her cheek on her knees and had one hand playing with the back of her hair.
"Do you know how much you have helped me? Jayce? Even Mel?" Viktor looked at her softly.
"Does the professor understand how little of time you have?" Her voice was small now. Viktor pursed his lips and nodded slowly understanding her frustration.
"I'm upset about it also," he agreed.
"We're going to do something about it, we're going to help with the hexcore, I'm going to get better powder," he said in a calm voice as she watched him. He looked so skinny now a days, sicker every day that passes. She notices how much more he's been coughing and sitting to take breaks.
"You better," she mumbled.
"If there was a way to help though... and it wasn't approved by anyone, or the law, would you still do it?" Powder asked as they looked at each other.
"I've broken many rules, the risk has always been worth it," Viktor grinned a little back, that made her smile finally.
"Then don't get mad at the things I might do," powder warned.
"I never would think it's you if anyone asks," he nodded agreeing. The girl was a genius, but she was also mad.
