Bonding

"Here, eat up," Jayce set a plate with a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with some fruit on the side in front of powder as she was looking at his books.

"Are these all yours?" Powder grabbed the sandwich to eat, she started to look more like her age with each bite, relieved from the feeling of hunger and now being warm again.

"Most, not all, I borrowed a few from the university," Jayce nodded as she opened a book to start reading more.

"How's the food? I've never been known for being a great cook," he leaned against the desk watching her smile with warm a hot meal.

"It's delicious! Thank you," powder spoke with her mouth full and took another bite while reading about machinery.

"You're welcome," Jayce chuckled.

"Unfortunately I don't think your done though powder, the council will want to have you on trial, they.. we, want to know more about the intentions about the other day, and there's other things to work out," he pursed his lips and she stopped eating.

"Can't I just talk to you about it?" Powder asked swallowing her food.

"If you'd like too, but there will be a trial still," he explained and she looked down at her lap while picking at her nails.

"We were just coming to take stuff, little man told us about you, we wanted to get a haul and sell it, it was suppose to be quiet and quick, it was my first time coming along... but it obviously didn't go as planned," powder spilled, trusting the adult that's been showing her kindness.

"We?" Jayce asked.

"Milo, claggor and my sister violet," she took a piece of fruit to eat.

"Where are they now?" He frowned, and how was she the one that's been blamed.

"I don't know, my sister left me, I couldn't find Milo and claggor, Milo hates me anyways, I'm always ruining things, I'm their jinx," powder rasped but she didn't cry anymore. She didn't think she could cry anymore, her eyes were swollen and dry.

"I don't know why I ruin everything," she bit her lip.

"Why did your sister leave you? Was it after you guys came up here?" Jayce pushed himself off the desk and knelt down in front of her with wide eyes.

"N-no it was last night, it was after my monkey bomb, I thought I was helping, I only wanted to help but I think I hurt someone, she hit me, she hit me in the face, she's never hit me like that," her voice began to shake again, picking her nails till they started to bleed.

"She said Milo was right, I'm just a jinx, she lied to me, she's a liar, and I ran and ran and ran till those enforcers grabbed me and threw me away," powder started to tremble and blink rapidly, not realizing she was bleeding from picking.

Jayce set his hands over hers to pull them away, rubbing small circles on the tops of her hands like his mother use to do to him as a child.

"It's okay, it's going to be okay powder, I'm sorry," Jayce whispered as powder disassociated thinking about the last 24 hours. She barely could see what was behind vi last night from the fire and smoke and rubble.

Vi was gone, vi is gone, gone gone gone gone gone, she didn't have a sister anymore, she was gone gone gone-

"Hey kiddo," a warm hand touched the top of her head snapping her out of her thoughts.

"You wanna know why I took you out of that cell and brought you here?" Jayce asked softly as his hand touched her shoulder now.

"Because I think your special, I know you have potential, I see so much for your future, your incredibly smart and bright, let me help you and in return... I could use an assistant maybe," he smiled up at her, powder was taken back by him.

"Where would I go?" Powder asked.

"I'll talk to the council, to Mel and Viktor, you'll stay in piltover," Jayce nodded and she pulled her hands back.

"But I'm from the under city, the lanes," she shook her head. "I don't belong here,"

"Just think about it, I won't force you to stay here but going back to Zaun, what's left there for you?" Jayce tried to convince her.

There was a knock at the door before powder could answer him.

"Who is it?" Jayce stood his full height again as powder grabbed her sandwich to eat again.

"It's me," viktors voice was on the other side of the door. Jayce opened it to see Mel and Viktor waiting.

"Ah so you did take her," Mel raised an amused brow.

"You know there's consequences to every action my boy," a new voice popped in and behind the two stood professor Heimerdinger. Shit here comes a lecture.

"She's a child, she was cold, hungry and scared in that cell, and she opened up about what happened, it was a mistake not an attack," Jayce stood at the door not letting them in.

"The people will want her to face a punishment, people could've gotten hurt," Mel explain quietly but powder still heard them.

"Will they feel justice when they see her?" He frowned. They all fell silent seeing the girl in the chair.

"Mel, you took a chance on us last night with hexcore, and it lead to a great success, with endless possibilities... I'm taking a chance on powder for the same thing, she's a brilliant mind," Jayce told them with full confidence.

"Jayce these things are so plain and simple," Mel sighed but understood his sympathy.

"I know, but she doesn't need her life to be done so soon when she's barely had a chance," he looked her in the eyes, they watched each other but they knew what had to be done.

"Fine, but she's your responsibility," Mel smiled deviously at him and Jayce smiled agreeing.

"Professor, may I have a word with you?" She turned back to the smallest council member.

"Why did I come in the first place it seems you have everything under control," heimerdinger rolled his eyes sarcastically and got a glimpse of powder peaking past Jayce.

Jayce motioned Viktor to come inside and closed the door behind them, powder held the place and eat more of the fruit.

"How mad was Mel?" Jayce chuckled looking at his friend.

"Actually," Viktor looked between them. "She was glad the little miss was gone with you,"

"There would be no justice if she was put away," he grinned.

"I thought maybe we could use a little assistant, she's used the crystals to create a bomb to help a situation, and with the right guidance I think she could grow into a success," Jayce set his hand on powders shoulder.

"A bomb?" Viktor raised a brow at her.

"I make bombs, but they've never worked until last night," powder took a deep breath.

"I see... well if you were to stay and learn from us miss powder, you won't be making bombs anymore, I will not allow hextech to become weapons," the sick man told her calmly with his accent thick.

"I... I can do that, I did it to defend myself," powder gulped nodding.

"I understand, but if you stay you won't have to defend yourself so there will be no reasons for bombs," the fellow zaunie lectured.

"Yes sir," she pursed her lips.

"So you'll stay?" Jayce asked.

"I'm your responsibility aren't I?" Powder rubbed the back of her neck anxiously. He smiled touching the top of her head and nodded.

"We'll speak to the council tomorrow morning and powder will stand to defend herself, it'll just be us and the rest of the council," Mel came back with the professor.

"I think it would be best for Mel to take Miss powder until then," Heimerdinger told them and powders eyes widen, grabbing Jayce's sleeve standing with him.

"Only for the night child, Mel and I discussed it would be safest, she'll take care of you, and Jayce if you'd like you can stand with powder during the trial, show them there is no bad blood between you two, especially since you already stood your trial," the elder smiled kindly seeing how they've bonded a little already.

"If you all believe in her, i will too," he stood by them.

"So we all agree, powder will you join me?" Mel held her hands together in front.

She looked up at Jayce and he nodded for her to go with Mel for the time being.

"I'll see you tomorrow kiddo," he patted her back and powder took another deep breath and stepped forward to follow Mel.

"See you tomorrow Jayce," powder waved back at the three men as the two left to go wherever home may be for the day.
