Encountering Innocence
A little girl looks out the window
exhaling the abandonment I've given her
her eyes filled with black soil
the golden box is shredded to ribbons
along with hair leavings on the glass floor
she cuts away the memories she'll never have
her skin is stained red
I'm not here to care for her, to help her
a car honks, I continue to cross the street
she looks in a mirror and sees
she cracks and falls to the floor
words are needles pricking my skin
the street lamp goes out,
darkness is quick, here
I'm all alone.
like a broken car, I'm here to fix her
she is not alone anymore
I'll show her the life she deserves,
one where she can fly,
the way I never did.
a candle is in the street,
it's orange and blue flames dance, I walk toward it
and put it out.
