Chapter 16: Hug Goodbye

Thought I found a way
Thought I found a way out (Found)
But you never go away (Never go away)
So I guess I gotta stay now

Oh, I hope someday I'll make it out of here

Even if it takes all night or a hundred years
Need a place to hide, but I can't find one near
Wanna feel alive, outside I can't fight my fear

Isn't it lovely, all alone?

Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home

Walking out of time

Looking for a better place (Looking for a better place)
Something's on my mind
Always in my head space

But I know someday I'll make it out of here

Even if it takes all night or a hundred years
Need a place to hide, but I can't find one near
Wanna feel alive, outside I can't fight my fear

Isn't it lovely, all alone?

Heart made of glass, my mind of stone
Tear me to pieces, skin to bone
Hello, welcome home

Woah, yeah

Yeah, ah
Woah, woah
Hello, welcome home

Three days since (y/n)'s capture, and the team was just about ready to carry out their plan. They had spent several restless nights going over the plan from beginning to end, finding any possible scenarios and finding a solution for them. They had their weapons, their strength, their lives... but the one thing they didn't have that was at arguably the most important thing of all was,

Their confidence.

It had been a rough couple days for everyone, especially Raph and Leo, who had spent the first day arguing, and the second ignoring each other and shut in their rooms. It wasn't until the third day that Mickey had finally convinced Raph to the kitchen along with Leo, which had respectably taken an hour and a half to do so.

And that is where they were now, fixing the final details of their plan, adjusting equipment and tossing yet another empty pizza box to the bottomless pit of trash that had piled up.

"All set, Leo" Donnie declared, heaving a huge, satisfying sigh. He smiled weakly at his brother-leader, who gave a quick, assuring nod, then turned back to the map that was sprawled out over the wooden table.

"I've taken dna tests of the sewer line running underneath the Empire State Building, it is almost completely free of any mutagen or any other toxic chemicals Donnie had listed before," he rubbed his forhead almost out of habit, using his right hand to draw out the endless maze of sewers running underneath New York.

Raph stood beside his brother, standing instead of sitting. Even the thought of sitting down made him sick to the stomach.

"Right, and the others enter here..." he reached forward with his left hand that was hanging behind his back and jabbed a point on the map.

Leo nodded slowly, studying the blue sheet of paper closely, as if it was about to jump up and attack him. Just as the kraang had done to them,

"Pizza anyone?" Mickey stumbled into the living room, another steaming pizza box balanced in his right arm, while a couple sodas hung from his other. Raph stiffly stood straight once more and stretched his back, sore from leaning over the map all day, and made his way over to Mickey.

"Bone appetite" Mickey dropped the pizza onto a small coffee table and did a short, comical bow before breaking one of the sodas from the plastic wrap and popping it open. With one gulp it was empty.

"Slow down Mickey! At that rate you'll get s-" Donnie was interrupted from one of his famous fatherly rants by mickeys ungodly belch, and a wave of laughter following it.

"What's so funny?" April casually walked into the living room with Casey, both dripping wet from the constant rain that had been pounding against the groups little cottage for the past three hours.

"Hey April, can you come here for a second?" Leo called from the kitchen.

April sighed, and turned towards the kitchen, entering quickly and sliding her cold, long hand across Leo's back as she moved from one side of him to the other.

"What is it?" She let her hand fall to the map that was spread out over the kitchen table and studied the strange markings that littered its surface for a moment.

"I need to ask you something," April turned to Leo, her red hair flipping from one side of her head to the other in one, wet clump.

"Anything."

Leo looked down with only his eyes, then rubbed the back of his neck nervously.

"I... I want to make sure... just in case... listen, if anything happens to me, I need you to-"

"Don't." April's face turns sour and a twinge of annoyance arose in her chest.

"Nothing is going to happen to you, I won't let it. You are too important to this family,"

"They all are!" Leo let his hand fall to the table, not loud enough to arise suspicion from the living room where his brothers were unknowingly listening to every word of the private coversation April and Leo were having, but just enough to make his point. April shut her mouth, tears stinging her eyes.

"If anything happens to me, I need you to get them out." He whispered, grabbing April's wrist desperately, his eyes growing softer.

"You are strong, can I trust you with this?" Leo watched April closely. She immediately opened her mouth, but closed it, as if she couldn't bring herself to say whatever it was she was going to say, and instead nodded, nothing holding her tears back now.

Leo smiled softly, pulling April close enough to embrace her in a hug. April wrapped her arms around the fearless leader, choking back any more tears she had left and putting on the bravest face she could.

After a few moments, Leo broke away from the hug and nodded back at April, before adjusting his chair closer towards the table to study his map once more.

Stunned, April stiffly moved towards the kitchen door, stealing one last glance at her friend, before pushing through the door. The first step she took out of the kitchen felt like betrayal. It stung in her chest and clenched her heart tightly.

Shakily, she moved forward into the 'comfort room', where the others were sprawled out on the couches and random areas across the room, nervously trying to look casual.

"I'm going to bed" she whispered, wrapping her arms protectively around her shoulders, like giving herself a comforting hug, even if it wasn't so comforting.

"Alright, we'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning!" Donnie replied, his smile reading 'enthusiastic', but his eyes reading 'loss'.

And with that, April headed to bed.

(Y/n) awoke once more a couple hours later, shaking so uncontrollably, that it took her at least three tries to sit herself back up. She squinted at the contents in her new cell, perhaps it was the same one, but she was too tired to remember, or maybe she just didn't care.

Freezing, she wrapped her arms around herself as a weak attempt to fight the cold. This room was much brighter than her last, so she could actually see the interior of her cell.

And it was sickening

It looked almost exactly like her apartment she had shared with her family, after the invasion. Down to the very minor details.

Like her sisters books, and her brothers clothes, and even her family photo that had sat on her bed stand. The one picture she had become so used to seemed almost unrecognizable now.

In the picture, (y/n) is holding up her brother in the air, above her head, while her sister and father laugh beside them. The autumn sun shining over their faces, as if to taunt (y/n).

This picture was no longer a beacon of hope for her, it was a sight of desperation and doom, a hopless wish she knew would never be fulfilled.

She let a tear run down her cheek, stinging her eye. A lump formed in her throat as she let out an uncontrollable sob, that transformed into an explosion of emotions, that drove (y/n) into a mad rage. Over an hour went by of screaming and yelling, but it made no difference. No one was going to come for her, she was alone, again. And this time, there was no 'silver lining'. This time, she was going to die, and no one was going to help her. Her luck had run out.

The cold felt like a hard slap to the face, seemingly attaching to the smeared tears on her face and repeatedly making its presence known. Her throat now sore from screaming, her voice hoarse from yelling, and her skin pale from yet another days worth of misery. (Y/n) slid down the wall on her back, clenching her eyes shut and wrapping her arms as tight as she could around her legs, and placing her head into her lap. Exhausted.

Which was exactly what Shredder wanted.

"And now the fun begins"

That's when the water started running
