Chapter 8 - Superman and Samuel
Sam was sat in his room, playing with his shoelaces. He heard Bruce was doing something important later.
That's when he heard music blaring from his new brothers room. Jason. He had only been there a few months. Sam pulled his hood up and covered his ears. He didn't like Jason. He wasn't like Dick at all.
He then heard Bruce turning the music off, telling Jason off before he heard a knock at his own door. Sam got up and opened the door.
"I need you to listen to me carefully, alright?"
"Listening carefully." Sam nodded.
"You stay up here, and make sure Jason does too."
"Why?"
"Because it's an important meeting." Bruce sighed.
"With? People from Wayne Enterprise?"
"No, some friends... Like Clark." Bruce nodded.
"Oh, Clark is nice. I like Clark."
"But you cannot come in, you hear me?"
"I won't go in." Sam nodded.
"Promise me, Samuel."
"I promise I will not go in to your meeting." Sam sighed.
"Good. I'll see you later." Bruce nodded.
"Mhm." Sam hummed, closing his door.
After a while, Sam could hear the Justice League talking, going into the meeting room. Sam carefully opened his door and crept down the stairs. He wasn't going in, he just needed to find a way to get Clark out.
"What are you doing?" Came a voice from behind him.
"Nothing." Sam spun around.
Jason. Wait... This could be good.
"Why are you sneaking about?"
"Oh, no reason." Sam hummed.
"I'll tell Bruce."
"Will you?"
Jason tilted his head,"Maybe."
"I don't believe you."
"What's in it for me?" Jason crossed his arms.
"I won't complain when you're blasting your music at two in the morning?"
"Give me more."
"I won't tell Bruce about you sneaking out with that Mollie girl." Sam added.
Jason uncrossed his arms,"Fine."
"Thank you." Sam smiled.
"I didn't see a thing." Jason covered his eyes.
"Nothing at all." Sam nodded.
Jason turned away and walked into his room.
"Right, now... To get Clark."
So he began walking downstairs, overhearing snippets of the League's conversation. Sam listened carefully, they always talked about such fun things.
That's when he heard the door open, footsteps coming his way so Sam hid behind the wall.
"Samuel?" He heard Clark speak.
"Clark!"
"What are you doing out here?" Clark raised a brow.
"Seeing you." He pointed.
"Why?"
"Because I like you." Sam smiled.
"I like you too, kid."
"Come on, let's ditch that meeting and go do something fun."
"It's important, Samuel."
"But don't you wantbto go get ice cream I?" Sam asked.
Clark looked back at the room before he chuckled and nodded,"Alright."
"Yes!" Sam cheered.
"Shh. We need to be quiet.' Clark pointed.
"Oh- Yes." He whispered.
"Come on." Clark walked out of the hallway.
Sam happily skipped after him.
"You know what? Driving is going to take too long... Hold on." Clark held his arm out.
Sam grinned and grabbed onto Clark's arm.
"Tightly." Clark warned before he flew in the air.
"Weee!" Sam giggled, he loved it when Clark let him fly with him.
Soon enough, they landed at the local ice cream parlour.
"You're so cool, Clark." Sam smiledup at him.
"Do you think so?" Clark crossed his arms.
"I do think so."
"I am pretty cool, aren't I?" Clark smirked.
"Yeah, you're Superman." Sam whispered.
"Oh of course, how could I forget?" Clark tutted.
"I don't know." Sam shook his head,"Let's get the ice cream."
"What flavour do you want?" Clark raised a brow.
"Chocolate!"
"What about sprinkles?"
"Yes please." Sam nodded,"Oh, should we get one for Miss Diana?"
"If you'd like one for Diana." Clark chuckled.
"Diana deserves ice cream too."
"Not any for your father?"
"No." Sam shook his head,"He doesn't like ice cream anyway."
"He's not into the sweet stuff is he, hm?" Clark asked as they walked into the shop.
"Not at all." Sam nodded,"But he does keep his money card easily available."
"Let me guess, you stole it?" Clark looked at him.
"Mhm, it's fine. I've seen Jason do it before." Sam took it out of his pocket.
"You shouldn't copy what Jason does, Samuel." Clark pointed.
"Hes supposed to be a 'good influence' while Dick is away." Sam rolled his eyes.
"Well he's not really a good one." Clark went up to the counter and ordered.
"That's why I don't like him." Sam played with his sleeve.
"Oh c'mon now, you may not agree with him but he's your brother regardless."
"Hes not my brother. I only have one brother."
"You'll get used to it." Clark nudged him.
"I want Dick back." Sam sighed.
"Has he not visited?" Clark grabbed their ice creams.
Sam shook his head and took his ice cream, starting to eat.
"He's going... Through some stuff."
"I wanted to go to- And Donna was there, we went to bed and- and then he was gone." Sam recalled the night they left.
"I'm sorry, Samuel... Really."
"Don't be, they'll come back for me." Sam smiled,"They promised."
Clark nodded slowly,"They will."
Sam was nearly done eating his ice cream,"Lets go back home."
"You done already?"
"Done out here."
"Finish that first, I'm not having you be sick on me." Clark warned.
Sam sighed and finished his ice cream, holding onto Diana's tightly
Clark finished his, holding onto Sam before he flew up and flew off.
Sam looked down at everything beneath them and smiled when they reached the Manor. Not because he'd see Bruce, but so he could give Diana her ive cream
Just as they got back, they saw Diana getting into her car.
"Miss Diana!" Sam ran up to her.
"Sam?" Diana turned around.
"Clark and I got you an ice cream!" He held it out to her.
"Were you- Is that where you ran off to?" Diana looked at Clark.
Clark sighed,"Yes."
Diana smiled, shaking her head,"Thank you, Sam."
"Of course!" Sam smiled,"You look nice today."
"Thank you Sam." She chuckled,"So what flavour did you get me?"
"Chocolate!"
"Oh, my favourite." Diana licked it.
"I know." Sam hummed.
"Very good. Well- I gotta head, but it was lovely seeing you Sam." Diana hummed.
"Bye Diana! Tell Donna to visit soon."
"I will." Diana assured him and got in the car.
Sam waved at her happily.
"Now, you better get inside Samuel." Clark nudged him.
"I will." He hurried inside the Manor.
"Bye!" Clark waved.
"Bye Clark!"
As Sam closed the door, he felt eyes on him. He knew who it was before he even looked, he recognised the eyes.
"Samuel." Bruce spoke.
"Bruce- Dad." Sam looked up at him.
"Where were you?"
"Getting ice cream with Clark."
"Wh- Who allowed you to go out?"
"Clark."
"Clark isn't your father, I am." Bruce pointed.
"So? We wanted ice cream." Sam shrugged.
"Which you should've asked for, I was worried sick."
"No, you weren't." Sam crossed his arms.
"Of course I was." Bruce sighed.
"You were busy."
"And I can still be worried." Bruce shook his head,"... I'll talk later, go to your room."
"Fine." Sam shook his head and headed up the staircase.
"What happened?" Jason asked as he walked up.
"He's mad because I went and got ice cream."
"It is quite late."
"But it's ice cream, who doesn't want to fly with Superman to get ice cream?"
"Me, obviously." Jason rolled his eyes.
"That sounds like a you problem, red bird." Sam shrugged.
"Red bird is stupid. I'm gonna be Robin some day, just you wait."
"There's only ever gonna be one Robin, no matter what the big man says and its never going to be you." Sam pointed before walking into his room and slamming the door.
