Epilogue
Credits song: The Future is Now - Starset
In the month that followed, and thanks to the brilliant intervention of the lawyer couple Foxworth, supported by the Monarch organization, had been able to provide damning evidence against Walter Simmons and the Apex corporation. It was the notes found in the apartment of the late botanist Eren Michaels that opened the trail. Apparently her daughter was a brilliant scientist working for Apex, but she had passed away following a very risky experiment that had gone awry. Simmons, to avoid a scandal, had denied any responsibility and thanks to corrupt lawyers had avoided justice.
Apex's profits fell sharply, several of the corporation's factories were closed, but to this day Walter Simmons is still on the run, actively sought after but nowhere to be found.
The images filmed in San Fransokyo, showing the brutal confrontation between Godzilla and Biollante, but also Elsa and Godzilla reuniting, had very quickly toured the world and triggered a worldwide buzz. While many believed it was a hoax, many others had to admit the terrifying reality of what had happened. A truth that had been eradicated on purpose, but the real past always resurfaces. And that truth was this: Monsters exist, and this world is theirs!
A month later...
Pensacola, Florida
Midnight had passed for a few minutes as a heavy pouring rain fell over the town of Pensacola, barely giving a glimpse of the downtown lights in the darkness of the night veil. But in the industrial zone, away from the city center, a strange rendezvous seemed to take place.
A black car pulled up through one of the deserted alleys and pulled up in the courtyard of a large warehouse that had been abandoned for years, once owned by an IT company. The doors opened, letting out a group of men dressed in black and all armed, looking around as if to make sure no one was there. Walter Simons came out after them, his head hidden under the hood of his large dark cloak. With a dark gaze, the creator and boss of Apex Corporation, now stripped of his pedestal as the undisputed master of revolutionary technology and sought after by the authorities, advanced with his bodyguards towards the entrance of the old dilapidated building.
There, another man was waiting for them, hidden under an umbrella and dressed in a brown suit, showed a polite smile.
_ "Mr. Simmons. Nice to see you on time. Please come in."
He stepped aside and invited the group of men to come in, which they did in silence. Now inside and protected from the rain, Simmons removed his hood and walked to the center of the empty warehouse, lit by large floodlights that had been installed. The only thing present in the middle of the deserted warehouse was this enormous thing hidden under a large white sheet and closely watched by a dozen men in strange clothes. Their outfits were blood red color, with black gloves, and their faces were all hidden under hoods. They were all armed with metal staff at the electric ends.
_ "Very well. Here I am, as we agreed. Show yourself, now." Simmons demanded, remaining suspicious and puzzled about that mysterious call he had received a week ago.
Without further ado, a new person appeared in the spotlight. She was a young woman, but she was also very special. She was beautiful, black lips, green eyes, pale skin, and long ebony hair. She was dressed in a green and black jumpsuit, with black gloves and green boots. Simmons noticed, with some astonishment, that at times, this woman's hands seemed to emit little sparks of green flame, which she amused herself to make appear and disappear with a mischievous little smile.
_ "Is it ... you that I have to meet here?" Simmons asked suspiciously, like all of his bodyguards behind him.
_ "Hmmm, rather my boss I would say ..." replied the woman with a rather detached air. "Besides, he was also impatient to finally meet you, Mr. Simmons."
She snapped her fingers, and one of the guards activated a giant screen mounted on the ceiling and revealed a male figure, sitting behind a desk and his face hidden in the dark.
_ "Good evening, Mr. Simmons." announced the mysterious man in the screen. "First of all, thank you for coming. I hope Shego hasn't intimidated you too much. She likes to terrify people, that's in her nature."
The woman in green and black, and who always showed that unhealthy and cruel smile, was therefore called Shego.
_ "Listen, I have no time to waste. Tell me who you are and what you want from me." said Simmons, quickly losing patience.
_ "Oh but what all men like you and I desire, Simmons: power, wealth and influence. You have lost all these things. For my part, I have sought to acquire them all my life. I am therefore convinced that by combining our strengths and resources, we could both achieve the same objective. And to prove my good faith, here is a small gift from me. "
With that, Shego motioned for the guards to remove the white sheet, which they did and revealed to Simmons what was hiding underneath. Immediately, his gaze lit up with unparalleled surprise.
_ "But ... it's ..." he stammered, a bad smile forming little by little on his lips.
_"Exactly." the man in the screen asserted. "We have entered a new era, Mr. Simmons. An era of monsters and gods. But what prevents us from diverting this power and making it our own? With perfect collaboration, this era could become ours."
The man in the screen stood up and stepped forward, revealing himself in the light for all to see, showing a big, evil smile between his teeth.
_ "And as for my name ... well, you can call me Dr. Drakken."
**************
What a beautiful night, Elsa thought as she sat by the water's edge on one of Ahtohallan's icy expanses. Above her, the immensity of the night sky was traversed by magnificent aurora borealis dancing in perfect harmony.
Godzilla gave a neutral growl, he too contemplating those moving lights in the sky thoughtfully, which had always intrigued him. The king of the monsters, who however used to sleep in the depths of the ocean, had decided this time to stay on Ahtohallan, to keep company with his queen. This sudden and painful separation a month ago, had marked them both a lot and in a sense, had also strengthened even more the bond which united them.
But certain thoughts returned to the queen's mind and made her sad.
_ "I can't believe this world is the future of ours. I mean ... everyone and everything we once knew ... are gone since a long time ... there is only us now."
Godzilla looked at her and groaned. She looked him in the eye and seemed to understand what he was saying by that growl. Obviously, the king of the monsters knew better than any living being what it was to see the world evolving around you without being able to prevent it. He had seen all the mass extinctions, millions of beings appear and disappear through the ages, but he had learned to adapt to them, for it was in his nature as an immortal guardian.
_ "But now that they know we exist, you know what that means? That the peacetime might well be over for us now." Elsa added.
Godzilla was aware of that too, obviously, but it didn't scare him either. If he had to, he would destroy all those who threaten the stability of this world, but who would also threaten his beloved queen.
Godzilla gently rested his head on the frozen ground of Ahtohallan, getting ready to sleep a little. He then felt Elsa come delicately snuggle up against him, which he happily let do. With her soft, cold palm, she very slowly stroked the titan's scaly skin, looking thoughtful, but also reassured.
_ "I am happy that you are with me, my king. Because I know that you will never leave me." she sighed lovingly.
With these tender words for her king, Elsa yawned and closed her eyes to fall asleep peacefully, nestled against Godzilla's body which, thanks to the radiation it emitted in low doses, created a pleasant warmth. Godzilla watched her fall asleep, watching over her and before he too fell asleep, took one last look at the Northern Lights, as well as the moon shining like pure silver. He didn't know what the future would hold, but no matter the time, he would be ready to face anything, even the unthinkable. Because he was the king. The only true king of the monsters.
