Chapter 3 - The Ice Woman

The rain that had lasted all night had finally stopped this morning, leaving the streets and buildings still soaked but the sun to express itself of these rays and bring a minimum of heat.

After getting a good night's sleep, Jenny Foxworth had woken up relatively early in order to take the time to prepare for her new day at college.

Dressed and her hair in a perfect bun behind her head, she had gone downstairs to have her breakfast prepared by her butler Winston who after was busy making her own breakfast, cooking eggs and a few slices of bacon in the pan stove. As a purebred Englishman, the butler enjoyed making himself savory english breakfasts, which Jenny respected in a way.

Oliver, for his part, had received his croquettes in his bowl and was eating greedily in the kitchen.

While eating her bowl of cereal and drinking her glass of squeezed orange juice, Jenny, seated at the large oval table in the dining room, decided to watch some television and see the news of the morning, as in her habit. She opened the small box on the table and pressed the digital control remotely activating the kitchen television.

The flat, rectangular screen on the counter lit up, immediately revealing the news channel, SF NEWS. A special news flash was underway, with the image showing the streets of downtown San Fransokyo being filmed live. A journalist appeared in front of the camera, her microphone in hand and seemed completely panicked by what was happening. Jenny raised an eyebrow and Winston, drawn to the sound of the television, watched too.

_ "This is Sarah Hadkins for SF NEWS" the woman talked into her microphone, while behind her, cries of panic and noises of confrontation seemed to occur "the San Fransokyo's center is currently in chaos! A woman with powers of ice appeared out of nowhere and sows panic around her! .... WATCH OUT!"

Suddenly, a police car, completely frozen, rolled and violently crashed into the wall of a building not far from the camera. In the street, people were screaming and fleeing in all directions.

Further on, the camera showed a group of policemen firing their weapons. But suddenly the woman with the icy powers appeared in front of them and froze them one by one with icy projections exploding from her hands. The woman appeared to be completely in a state of panic and watched all around with speed as she tried to push back and escape the police force who relentlessly pursued her.

_ "No! Do not approach!" the Ice Woman kept yelling with hostility, but above all with fear.

Seeing these footage filmed live from downtown, Jenny was stunned, dropping her spoon into her bowl.

_ "My god, but what is it?!" Winston gasped, also in shock.

Jenny, as if caught up in new energy, jumped up from her chair and began to grab her coat in the entrance hall.

_ "Winston, drive me downtown now! Oliver, you stay here!" ordered the teenage girl.

_ "What? But you can't be serious, Miss Jennifer! It's war over there!" Winston gasped.

_ "Winston, if you don't want, I'll go on foot if I have to." Jenny replied assertively, and the butler knew she could. Strong head when she wanted it, just like her mother. She had really hardened since the day when, as a child, she had been kidnapped by that infamous mobster, Sykes.

Reluctantly, the butler decided to obey the order of his young mistress, seeing himself already dismissed by the parents for having put their daughter in danger. Oliver, puzzled, watched Jenny and Winston leave the house, not understanding what was going on and seeing that Jenny had not taken her school bag.

Meanwhile...

In another residential area much further from the city center, around the corner of one of the streets, stood a modest establishment called the Lucky Cat Café. A well-known place for the inhabitants of this district, many of whom came here in the morning to have breakfast before leaving for their work.

This cafe was run by Cass Hamada, Hiro's aunt. Cass was a loving, bossy woman when needed, but above all, cared for Hiro's well-being, especially since Tadashi's tragic death.

Like every morning, wearing her white apron, Aunt Cass was busy taking orders from regular customers and talking to them at the same time, checking in with them.

At one of the tables, Hiro was seated with all his friends. Almost like every morning, the band of secret heroes gathered to have breakfast before leaving for the Institute.

_ "Last night, I had a dream ..." said Fred comfortably in the seat and having finished eating his cereal. "I dreamed that I managed to create the invisible sandwich ... I held it like that in my hands ... and I was the only one who could see it."

While speaking, he mimicked the gesture of holding a sandwich with his hands. Sitting across from him, Go Go Tomago, nicknamed Go Go, her forehead hidden by her black bangs, rolled her eyes at Fred's story.

_ "You are really an hopeless case, Fred ... please, never give your brain to science." she said, sighing in annoyance.

_ "How many times do I have to tell you, Fred? The invisible sandwich is not science." Wasabi said in turn, who as usual, storage maniacal he was, put his spoon down exactly where it had been placed before, to the nearest centimeter.

_ "It's rather Fred's brain that is invisible." Go Go joked, mocking her friend. Wasabi laughed with her.

_ "Go ahead, laugh. Anyway, all the greatest geniuses in history have been made fun of, but they always end up having the last word." Fred said sulking, but convinced of his words.

Meanwhile, right next door and having also finished his breakfast for several minutes, Hiro remained strangely silent, his eyes staring at his cell phone as he surfed the internet.

_ "Hiro? Hey Hiro? You're very quiet this morning. Something wrong?" Wasabi then asked, noticing the rather reserved face of Tadashi's brother. Honey Lemon, sitting next to him, then spoke to the others for him.

_ "Well, let's say yesterday's experience didn't go exactly as planned ... again."

_"Oh." was all Wasabi could say, a little embarrassed to have raised this subject again on the mat.

_ "Guys ... I can hear you, you know?" Hiro told them then, to which the others felt rather silly. But Go Go, never macing her words or her thoughts, then decided to speak openly.

_ "Listen Hiro. I know what you're telling yourself. That it will never work, that you waste your time ... so let me give you a good source of motivation: the day you give up, you will no longer be worthy of the memory of your big brother."

_ "Uh, Go Go, you should take it easy, right?" Wasabi suggested, not wanting the situation to escalate. It is true that she had spoken rather harshly, such was her character. But in another sense, Fred seemed to share her opinion, and without being so firm as she was, he spoke to Hiro.

_ "She's right. Listen Hiro, I consider you as the little brother I ever had. You're the greatest genius this town has known. Seriously, take a look at what you've accomplished so far. .. especially with all of us, for... you know, the top secret thing that I can't tell here in front of everyone."

With those encouraging words, Fred gave Hiro a friendly nudge in the arm to try and make him smile again. Although not the brightest in intelligence, Fred nonetheless had the spirit of a true friend who would never let his own down.

It was Honey Lemon's turn to speak, coming to rest her hand on Hiro's, forcing him to look her in the eye.

_ "You will get it, Hiro ... and remember that you will always have help." she said, pointing to herself and everyone else around the table.

_ "Yep! If I was offered all the powers in the world, or to help you, I would choose the second option without hesitation for a second." Fred said with his rather touching naivety.

One by one, Hiro looked at his friends and had listened to them all carefully despite the doubt that had assailed him for several days. He managed to find a little smile again, which reassured the rest of the group. Definitely, this group of friends was one of the best things that had happened in her life in years.

But as he looked on his phone again, a strange news caught his curiosity, causing him to frown.

_ "Guys ... check this out." he said in astonishment, showing his screen to the others. The news spoke of havoc in the city center right now, and the video, filmed by a passer-by on a street, showed a blonde woman, spouting geysers of ice from her hands and freezing a group of policemen who were trying to catch her.

Around the table, the whole group was stunned by what they saw, and knew that being live, it couldn't be a video edit.

_ "Wow ... so cool! An ice woman!" Fred went into ecstasies, eyes shining like the eternal geek he was.

_ "Who can that be? A new super villain?" Go Go wondered as he watched the video.

_ "In any case, she attacks the police, and in a rather violent way." Wasabi added.

_ "I dunno ... look at her face ... she looks completely terrified." Honey Lemon said looking better on the video, especially this young woman's face and expressions.

Hiro had noticed it too, and without hesitation, gathered all his friends to talk to them discreetly, making sure his aunt and the other customers couldn't overhear.

_ "Too bad for the institute. We must intervene ... assemble in the backyard in five minutes ... with your outfits." Hiro explained to the others, before leaving the table and heading hastily to the back of the shop, to take the stairs and back up to his room. Honey, Go Go, Wasabi and Fred, on their side, left as if nothing had happened from the café, to go towards the entrance of the backyard of which they had the key which Hiro had entrusted to them.

Hiro started to climb the first steps with enough haste but suddenly froze when his aunt's voice called out to him.

_ "Hiro, what are you doing? Everyone else has left for college." she says.

_ "I know, I'll join them. I just ... forgot one of my books. I'm going right now!" Hiro replied, managing to come up with a false excuse and hurried to run to his room, watched rather cautiously by Cass, but who eventually gave up and returned to her work.

Once in his room, shutting the door tight and making sure he wasn't followed in secret by his aunt, Hiro ran to his locked safe, where he was hiding his superhero outfit. As he began to put it on, he walked over to a huge red metal box.

_"Ouch." he said nearby.

Immediately the red box opened, letting out Baymax who swelled his huge round, limp body, and opened his small round black eyes. The robot then looked towards Hiro who continued to prepare.

_ "Hello Hiro" Baymax said in his friendly voice as he walked over to him "... I heard you say the word ouch. Do you need medical attention?"

_ "Hello Baymax, and no, no medical for me, but I still need you now ..." Hiro replied, who was then holding Baymax's red helmet in his hands and handed it to him. "The Big Hero 6 have a new mission to accomplish."

Meanwhile...

Locked in his private office, within the secret headquarters of the Monarch organization, Henri Serizawa was immersed in full observation of the paintings found in the secret tunnel in Norway, under the castle of Arendelle ... these paintings representing these giant creatures and monstrous ... these same monsters which were also described, with astonishing precision, in the book of his ancestor Ishiro, and which he had read in its entirety, several times, and never ceased to reread in order to discover the slightest secret... Sitting in his chair, the man had to take a few moments to give his brain time to process the information collected and accept it or not ...

But his silent moment of reflection was suddenly interrupted by the sudden arrival of Doctor Lewis in his office.

_ "Doctor Lewis, yet I told you I didn't want to be disturbed." Serizawa retorted in annoyance.

_ "Forgive me, Professor Serizawa, but you absolutely have to see what's going on in San Fransokyo right now." Lewis replied, sounding very nervous. Serizawa, puzzled, then saw her take the television remote control from a corner of the desk and turn it on. Immediately, what Serizawa saw on the screen made him react. Jumping up from his chair and removing his glasses as if to make sure he had no visions, he walked and stood closer of the screen, to be sure to see correctly.

_ "Are you fucking kidding me ..." he sighed in amazement and unable to say anything else as the surprise was enormous.
