Chapter 2 - The Awakening

Night in the city of San Fransokyo was now well advanced, the night sheet having blanketed the world and the curtain of rain continuing to fall, clouds obscuring the stars in the sky. At night, the millions of downtown lights continued to shine, the city functioning like a huge beacon in the middle of the darkness.

Not far from the city center, in a modest little apartment, a man was not sleeping despite the tranquility that reigned in this residential area. In his neglected apartment plunged into semi-darkness, the man, forty years old, dressed in a t-shirt and brown pants remained motionless in front of his living room window. Brown hair, brown eyes, square face and unshaven chin, he contemplated in silence the exterior, the great towers of this futuristic city, while smoking his umpteenth cigarette.

But his attention was particularly focused on the great and majestic tower of the APEX Corporation, rising from the center of the city, high towards the dark sky. He looked her up and down, with a look of contempt so obvious even a blind man could see it. This tower which stood there, pretentiously sporting its enormous luminous logo A for all to see, as if to taunt him.

_ "Apex ... Apex ..." repeated the neglected man, grumbling between his lips, then crushing his still smoking cigarette in his hand. He didn't even seem to feel the stinging pain in his palm because his anger was so great.

After dropping the residue of his smashed cigarette on the floor at his feet, and completely ignoring the total disorder that reigned in his home, the man left the living room to go to the room at the back of his apartment and closed by a code door. He entered the code on the small digital board, then had his DNA fingerprint scanned to open access.

The man finally entered the room, for him, the most important, lit by two neon lights on the ceiling. Around him, arranged on several large white tables, rows of glass tubes and other vials and receptacles, all containing liquids of various colors, some of them making bubbles. The chemist's real arsenal. In the larger container was a rather dark mauve red liquid and seemed to be kept in a state of constant boiling.

The man walked past one of the walls of the room, which had been covered with numerous newspaper clippings or articles, all about the same thing: APEX Corporation. "Famous botanist loses case against Walter Simmons" was the headline of one of the news articles. "Doctor Eren Michaels accuses Walter Simmons to have destroyed his life." said another article. And in the middle of the newspaper clippings, was pinned down a photo of Walter Simmons, pierced by a knife and above him had been written in red marker: Guilty!

Eren Michaels, or rather the shadow of what he once was, focused on checking the boiling purple liquid, but didn't seem quite satisfied with the result, but still didn't give up. He also checked another of his studies: a magnificent rose bush protected under a solid glass bell. But this rose exhibited surprising genetic modifications, also showing several jaws of carnivorous plants. A genetic modification between two plants, of which Eren was rather proud, smiling when he saw his mutant plant in full health.

After that, Doctor Eren turned to the back of his small private lab, and approached the heavy, metal door of what appeared to be the entrance to a cold room. He checked the screen showing the temperature in the room behind, and was reassured to see that it remained stable thanks to the generator he had installed. He looked out the small window, pointing to the other side of a small room completely filled with ice, and in the middle was the completely cryogenic body of a girl, ten years old, with her eyes closed. Eren then gently placed the palm of his hand against the window.

_ "Patience, sweetie ..." Eren moaned, biting his lip and having to contain his feeling of anger, falling on his knees in front of the metal door "... very soon, I would have found the solution ... and then, Walter Simmons, his miserable corporation and all the damn corrupt people in this city will pay for what they did ... for what they did to us."

The next morning

The first rays of the new sun had barely risen over the city. But already, in the laboratories of the APEX tower, a team of scientists were already preparing for the first operation of the day. Finding themselves in the confinement room plunged into a polar temperature, protected by their suits, the group of men and women carefully prepared the laser perforators they were going to use to carefully melt the ice prison and freed the young woman. The thermal cartridges were engaged in the perforators, and now had to charge for several minutes to achieve ideal stability and not to overheat the mechanism.

Meanwhile, one of the team members carried a small camera in his hands and would film the operation that would take place.

_ "May 7 of the year 2150. 7 am. Procedure for the extraction of the frozen subject brought back from the Delta expedition to Norway." the man behind the camera commented for the future video report.

_ "Frankly, have you ever seen such a beauty?" one of the scientists commented openly, looking at Elsa in the crystal. "Anyway, she makes me hot, don't you?"

_ "Shut up Daniel, this is not the time for your stupid remarks." ordered the team leader.

Elsa had never felt so good in her whole life. Hair undone, she was stretched out on this carpet of soft green grass on top of one of the hills surrounding Arendelle. Winter had just ended and the beautiful spring days had finally returned.

Lying next to her, was Anna, dressed in her spring dress, and admiring with Elsa the beauty of this sky untouched by any cloudy presence. The water in the fjord reflected the rays of the sun and took on the appearance of soothing crystal clear water. A light wind had arisen, coming from the south.

_ "You know Elsa ... don't repeat it, but ... I think Kristoff is planning to make his marriage proposal to me." Anna said breaking the silence. Elsa looked her in the eye at first in amazement, but saw from her smile that she was more than sincere in what she said.

_ "You ... are you sure?" Elsa asked to be sure.

_ "Well ... he thinks he is discreet, but ... for several weeks, I see him come and go in a little strange way ... when he talks to me, he is often very embarrassed and red as a tomato too wall ... and then the other day I saw him hiding something in his pocket ... it was shaped like a ring."

Elsa gasped then with a smile and the two sisters shared this moment of happiness by coming to hug.

_ "This is wonderful news." Elsa said to her little sister "You deserve it more than anyone ... no other news could start this new spring better, especially after such a harsh winter."

_ "Come on, enough about me," said Anna, coming to lean against Elsa and take her by the arm, and looking at her with a teasing air. "How about you and Godzilla instead?"

At the mention of the King of the Monsters, Elsa's cheeks turned red and she was very embarrassed, which made her really adorable and made Anna laugh softly who was rather proud to have started the subject, because loving to tease her sister with it.

_ "Come on, Anna, be a little serious ..." said Elsa "... a human and a titan can't get married ... and then, honestly, I don't think that's in the plans of a being like Godzilla."

_ "But you love him ..." remarked Anna "... and it is obvious, even if he shows it less, that he cares very much for you."

Elsa sighed, rising from her seat and taking a few steps forward, crossing her arms and gazing thoughtfully towards the bay of the fjord.

_ "Of course I love him ..." Elsa replied "... but it is a very different love than that between two humans ... even I could not describe it with precision."

_ "Well, that sounds like a good description of true love to me." Anna said coming over to join her and taking her by the hand, smiling at her to restore her confidence. "Impossible to describe in simple words."

Elsa smirked back. Decidedly, Anna still had the words to be able to comfort her. Elsa took both of her little sister's hands in hers, looking her in the eyes.

_ "Anna ... what could I do without you?" Elsa sighed happily.

But suddenly Elsa lost her smile and gasped in horror as she saw Anna breaking into thousands of ice shards in front of her and collapsing at her feet.

_ "ANNA!" Elsa yelled in shock.

Then, all around the young woman, the landscape also began to break up and crumble little by little, while dull noises of shock against ice were heard. The mountains, the hills, the city and the castle of Arendelle, even the waters of the fjord ... everything broke and disappeared around Elsa, who completely in a panic and looking around, watched helplessly at the disappearance of her world.

_ "ELSAAAAA!!" then yelled the ghostly echo of Anna's voice, echoing forcefully.

In the containment room of the laboratory, the scientific team had started perforating the ice crystal. But hardly the lasers of the perforators had cut the surface, that something abnormal occurred. The machines hooked up to the crystal to probe the vital signs of the woman locked inside panicked, the alert sound repeating and the screens displaying unexpected results. The team then had to stop their work.

_"What is happening?!" asked the chief.

_ "The heart rate increases ... neuronal activity is also increasing and the temperature of the crystal rises!" one of the men announced in panic in front of the screen.

_ "Take care of that now!" ordered the chief starting to be worried.

_ "I try, but it continues to heat up!"

Before their eyes, the ice crystal suddenly began to smoke, emitting columns of vapor, and its surface slowly began to crack, larger and larger cracks spreading.

The scientists then started to back up and one of them rushed towards the metal panel where was the button of alarm, which he pressed without delay. The alarm siren then began to sound throughout the floor, alerting all staff there. Currently on the top floor of the tower, in his office, Walter Simmons, who was reading and signing the latest partnership contracts with other small businesses in the city, was suddenly alerted by his personal computer whose system was connected to all floors of the tower. Immediately he located the alert and activated the surveillance camera screen to see what was going on. Meanwhile, in the containment room, the scientific team then saw, with amazement, the woman in the crystal, opening her eyes.

Expelled from her nightmare vision, Elsa opened her eyes wide, panting as if lacking air. All around her was still the ice crystal where she had locked herself in to hibernate ... but all around her, an infernal muffled noise was repeated, and panicked voices were heard ... but they spoke in complicated terms that she had never heard in her life.

In total panic, Elsa then summoned her magic and literally exploded her ice crystal whose pieces flew in all directions, several of them violently hitting the scientists and throwing them to the ground.

Falling to her knees on the cold, metallic floor, Elsa gasped, trying to get some breath and strength. His mind was completely confused. She didn't know how long she had spent in the crystal.

And still that horrible sound that continued to ring in her ears ... lifting her head and looking around her, the shock and the incomprehension of the young woman were even greater ...

She was in a completely empty room, with white walls, perfectly smooth and immaculate ... and there were these people ... these people who were slowly getting to their feet, moaning, and wearing these weird and intimidating outfits, hiding their faces behind glass plates. The metal objects they held in their hands were even more bizarre. But where was she?

_ "What the fuck is security doing?!" shouted one of the strange men, visibly in distress.

Elsa scrambled to her feet, her legs still numb from the long sleep. Seeing her do this, one of the scientists then aimed his laser perforator at her, which although it was not a weapon, was capable of dealing damage to the flesh.

_ "Stop! Stay where you are, don't move!" the man ordered, more out of fear than authority, his hands shaking as he held the tool.

Elsa didn't understand what he was doing, but clearly felt, in the tone of his voice and the way this thing was pointed at her ... a hostility beyond palpable. Although completely unaware of where she was, and despite the fear, Elsa was determined not to let it go.

With a quick wave of her hands, Elsa summoned a violent blizzard that exploded throughout the room, ejecting all strangers into the air, against the walls of the room and knocking them out. The force of the blizzard also blew up the large glass pane on one of the walls.

Heart pounding and unable to regain from her confused mind, Elsa decided to run away from this nightmare place. She staggered a few steps, the time for her legs to regain their full capacity and with a pulse of ice, she knocked the metal door off its hinges, causing it to crash heavily to the ground. Faced with this, employees jumped in fear and backed away, while armed security guards hurriedly arrived.

Seeing these people in different but equally incomprehensible outfits, Elsa ran into one of the hallways to escape them. As she ran, everything around her seemed completely surreal to her. These people who looked at her with fear and surprise, these rooms more or less large and lit by kinds of light bands hanging from the ceiling. All these rectangular shaped objects that emitted light from their center and which people seemed to be working on ... she also saw, with fear, all these creatures made of metal, working with humans...

As she ran, Elsa heard bangs and impacts forming on the wall next to her behind her. These men in black outfits were targeting her, shooting her with unknown weapons.

Walter Simmons then hurriedly arrived to see the damage done to the containment room and see the woman's escape. He had been able to see on the camera screen what she was capable of. Immediately he picked up his communicator.

_ "To all the guards, don't kill her! I want her alive! Use the paralyzing rays!"

The guards, having received the order from their boss, activated the stun mode of their assault rifles and began to fire blue spheres of energy towards Elsa, who managed, not without difficulty, to avoid them all and continued to run, although not knowing at all where she was going.

But suddenly, at the end of a corridor, a large bay window presented itself in front of Elsa. She was trapped. As she approached the glass, she was shocked to see what she saw behind. A dizzying height, but above all, a huge city of glass towers and imposing flying machines similar to large balloons, levitating above the city and sporting large panels showing various things it did not understand. But what was this monstrous place? Was she in hell?

But questions would have to wait, the group of men in black approaching their position, their footsteps and voices coming closer.

Elsa was breathing fast, trying to find a way out of this trap. Then she looked through the picture window, down. A height of several hundred meters. She would have liked to hesitate any longer, but she couldn't. Heart pounding and swallowing, she gained momentum. When the guards finally arrived in the hallway, it was to see the woman run and leap through the glass, then begin to slide against the glass walls of the floors and fall down at full speed.

_ "Damn, but she's crazy!" one of the guards yelled.

Walter Simmons arrived in turn with his bodyguards, looking through the breach in the window and seeing the young woman falling.

Elsa was more than terrified, and in despair, tried to hold herself back so she wouldn't slide any more, but the walls were perfectly flat and smooth. The young woman somehow managed to summon a long, thick rail of ice beneath her, and while creating it as she fell, slid lower and lower in order to reach dry land.

From his position, Walter saw her do it, and showed great fascination, a smile forming on his lips.

_ "Prepare the intervention teams! I need her, alive!" he ordered, turning to his guards.

***********

Meanwhile...

Godzilla's expression suddenly changed as he swam in the dark waters ... he had clearly felt it ... Elsa! She had awakened! And she was afraid!

Growling even more firmly, the King of the Monsters quickened his swimming pace, tearing the waters before him like paper.
