Chapter 21 - Last Battle of the Worlds part I
While the Iwi city had been evacuated as soon as possible, sending its non-combatant population to hide in the cavern networks located in the surrounding cliffs, the Iwi Queen had stayed with her warriors to prepare for a very possible attack by the Skar King and his forces on the valley. Trapper had left with the HEAV to look for reinforcements but had still not returned, as had Elsa, Jia and Mothra. Everyone hoped that everything had gone well with Godzilla and Kong, otherwise, there would be no more hope. In order to put all the chances on their side, the Iwis decided to use a secret weapon. To do this, the Queen brought James and Ann into the depths of the pyramid, in the deepest room, where there was a huge basin filled with water and in which were huge pillars of crystals supporting the vault and surely connected to the pyramid. Ann then observed and saw that the Iwis, under the queen's orders, began to pour a thick-looking liquid charged with energy into the water. The liquid then began to spread, as if reacting to the contact of the water and came to touch the pillars one by one, making them react as well.
_"What are they doing? What is this liquid?" Ann asked.
_"Iwi technology." James told her, having understood what the queen had told him before. "The energy of the Hollow Earth exists in all forms: solid, liquid, gas, etc... Thanks to this liquid which is charged with it and which functions as their engineering system, they will trigger an electromagnetic reaction between the pyramids, which will have the effect of triggering an anti-gravitational shock wave, but only for a few minutes unfortunately, but with a little luck it will prevent the forces of the Skar King from being able to reach the portals."
_"And everything that is in the air will crash to the ground." Ann added, guessing what was coming next.
The Iwi Queen confirmed the couple's words with a nod. Ann couldn't hide her admiration for this extraordinary technology that the Iwis had managed to master. Not surprising when you know that they were the very first humans to exist and to establish a unique bond with the titans.
The liquid metal charged with Hollow Earth energy came into contact with the crystal pillars, impregnating them and they reacted. The very foundations of the pyramid vibrated and the chain reaction began. The Iwi Queen then received from one of the priestesses a rather special-looking scepter, made of wood and fabric, but with an oval-shaped stone at its top, also charged with the same primordial energy. The Iwi Queen showed the scepter to the couple and explained its function with gestures.
_"Okay then... this scepter allows you to start the anti-gravitational wave process. That's good to know." said Ann.
But as they spoke, a brief earthquake shook the area and a bestial roar was heard on the surface. The Iwis, James and Ann hurried to the surface to see with amazement that the fire titan Rodan had just arrived, having landed on the ground and emitting a ferocious roar. And he was not alone, Mothra was there too, letting Elsa and Jia get off her back and step on the floor. Without waiting, Jia quickly joined her adoptive parents who then shared a hug with her, all reassured. Elsa advanced to the Iwi queen, the two monarchs sharing a mutual nod.
_"So? Where are Godzilla and Kong?" Ann asked.
_"They went to the front lines to buy us as much time as possible." Elsa explained. "As for us, we must hold this position and defend it at all costs. The presence of Rodan and Mothra will be more than welcome."
Rodan then expressed a confident growl, as if affirming that indeed his presence is indispensable, which earned him a little wing stroke from Mothra to make him come down from the pedestal on which he liked to imagine himself. Rodan growled in annoyance at the goddess.
_"But what about you Elsa? You didn't go with them?" James asked.
_"I made a promise." Elsa replied, looking at Jia, having promised Ann to watch over her. "But I have every confidence in our two kings. Together, they have already proven that nothing can stop them."
*************
As per the plan established with the others, while Mothra and Rodan returned with Elsa and Jia to the Iwi city, Kong had guided Godzilla to the passage leading to the underground kingdom. The two alpha titans working together again walked through the devastated lands until they had the large black volcanic mountain in sight. Kong then pointed at the mountain but Godzilla ignored him and almost shoved him in the shoulder to pass first and continued walking, to which Kong growled softly and followed him. Although allies, Godzilla remained faithful to his closed character and determined to lead the march.
Suddenly, Suko, who had disappeared for a while and had hidden, dared to come out from behind a group of rocks and beckoned Kong to join him. Upon seeing the young ape, Godzilla reacted with hostility, growling and making his eyes shine with ferocity, triggering real fear in Suko who backed away. But Kong immediately stopped Godzilla by interposing himself, signaling to him that Suko was an ally, to which the king of the monsters seemed to tolerate this, growling heavily and calming down. Not really reassured to see the giant lizard, Suko was nevertheless delighted to see Kong again and then indicated to the two alpha titans that he had found a forgotten passage at the back of the mountain that would allow them to enter without being seen.
Godzilla didn't seem to appreciate having to attack by surprise, preferring to attack head-on, but reluctantly agreed to follow the plan regardless, remembering that before leaving, Elsa had made him promise not to be too hard on Kong and to work with him. For his queen, he agreed to make the effort. Guided by Suko, the two alpha titans found the passage in question and entered it, walking for long minutes in the darkness while being as silent as possible, even if Godzilla found this plan completely ridiculous and unworthy of him.
Eventually, they reached the immense cavern in the heart of the mountain, the volcanic heat of the lava permeating the air. Lying and hidden high up, Godzilla, Kong and Suko watched, seeing that the great apes seemed to be preparing for battle. The warriors, bearing Skar's red markings on their faces and chests, carried enormous maces carved from wood or bone and gathered under Raya's watchful eye. The Skar King then arrived, holding Kong's axe tightly in his hand and roared with might, telling his warriors that the victory would be theirs. Shimo was there too, still chained and appearing passive, as if waiting for the next order that would be imposed on her.
Having had enough of all this, Godzilla took the lead, standing up and emitting a colossal roar signaling the start of hostilities and visibly ready to massacre them all single-handedly. Under the eyes of Kong and Suko, stunned, Godzilla jumped and charged towards the army of apes who were also very shocked to suddenly see a mad Godzilla charging at them. The surprise effect not having lasted, Kong jumped in turn to go into battle, signaling to Suko to stay back and not take any risks, although Suko had expressed the sincere desire to fight too.
Seeing Godzilla and Kong whom he thought he had killed, the Skar King immediately roared at his henchmen, while the enslaved apes, not being fighters, fled, frightened, to hide.
_"Protect the king!" Raya yelled firmly.
Shimo, for her part, also reacted but with confusion, not understanding what was happening, but did not have time to wonder as the Skar King took her again under the influence of the crystal while her chains were undone.
The Skar King's loyal warriors charged in turn, weapons in hand. Godzilla, waiting for them, killed one of them directly with a short but powerful atomic breath straight to the head. Another ape leapt at his back to try to strike him, but Godzilla reacted by throwing him violently over his shoulder and finished him off by brutally crushing his head under his foot and roared in a murderous frenzy.
Kicking and pushing back all the warriors who blocked his path, Kong made his way, trying to reach the ape slaves, females and young, all cowering and afraid, while Godzilla, unleashed, continued to ravage the ranks of the Skar King. Kong roared and then signaled the ape slaves to leave here as quickly as possible, Suko joining him and telling the others to follow him through the back passage. The apes, at first hesitant to flee like this and suffer the fury of their tyrant king, agreed and quickly followed Suko to escape the mountain. However, some of Skar's warriors saw them and tried to stop them but Kong intervened to allow them to escape. With his armored glove, Kong broke the weapon of one of the warriors who tried to strike him and retaliated with a masterful uppercut. However, his attention quickly turned to the real enemy to be taken down: the Skar King, he saw it, and his axe!
Godzilla meanwhile continued his wave of carnage without the slightest mercy. Half buried by a dozen warriors who tried to cover him and pin him to the ground with their weights, Godzilla let out a radioactive shockwave from his body, throwing them all away from him. Grabbing one of the warriors by the throat, Godzilla violently slammed him against a wall and finished him off with a point-blank atomic breath.
Meanwhile, Kong, with a roar, charged straight towards the Skar King and leapt into the air, preparing his fist.
_"My king, watch out!" Raya warned.
Skar then noticed Kong and interposed the blade of the axe with Kong's armored gauntlet, blocking the attack. Face to face again, the two great apes exchanged a look filled with intense mutual hatred. However, through the control crystal, Skar King ordered Shimo to act in his favor, the possessed ice titan lunging at Kong and delivering a violent blow with his head, throwing Kong several meters back. Taking Raya on his shoulder, Skar King leapt onto Shimo's back like a rider on his mount and ordered him to spit his ice beam at several of the massive rock pillars that supported the entire cavern. Under the effect of the ice and the power of the beam, the pillars gave way, causing the cavern to gradually collapse, the mountain shaking more and more and huge blocks of rock falling from the ceiling.
Faced with the collapse of his lair and not caring much about the fate of his warriors, he ordered Shimo to take him out of here quickly, which the ice titan did without having a choice. Several of the Skar King's warriors followed him out of the mountain while others were not so lucky and perished crushed under landslides. Having managed to get rid of all the ape warriors who were bothering him, Godzilla, mad with rage and with shining eyes, launched himself in pursuit of the Skar King and Shimo while Kong tried to follow him as best he could while having to dodge the rocks falling from the ceiling. Unfortunately the two alpha titans failed to reach the exit in time...
From outside, Skar King and Raya, on Shimo's back and surrounded by the surviving warriors, witnessed the complete collapse of the mountain which then buried Godzilla and Kong. Skar King smiled fiercely with all his teeth, expressing a satisfied growl. He was sure this time, nothing could survive the collapse of an entire mountain. Being rid of the two alphas, Skar King decided to focus on the next step: the portals located in the valley, towards this miserable human city. Now that the passage was open, nothing could prevent him from accessing it. The unexpected arrival of Godzilla and Kong had precipitated his plan but in the end it changed nothing. Gathering what remained of his warriors, Skar King roared, giving the order to march and attack the Iwi city to seize the portals and reach the surface to begin the conquest.
Meanwhile, Suko had also been able to observe and could not repress his great fear of having seen the mountain collapse without seeing Kong and Godzilla come out of it. Having managed to take the slave monkeys with their wives and children out of the cave, Suko asked them to stay hidden here until he returned and rushed quickly. He had to arrive before the Skar King at the Iwi city to warn them.
