Chapter 8 - The Hollow Earth

With Godzilla's attack having made shipping far too risky, a decision was made to get Kong to his destination: by air. For this, nearly a hundred military transport helicopters were needed, each moored to a very thick cable. From this hundred cables was suspended a huge net made of very solid material and in which Kong was now, anesthetized.

The convoy was now flying over the vast white and frozen expanses of Antarctica. They finally arrived at their destination, a huge Monarch launch station, built in the bowels of a huge crater in which, several years ago now, the organization had discovered what seemed to be a passage leading to the Hollow Earth.

Once Kong was deposited on the ground, the ties of the net were unhooked and the helicopters left the very moment when the titan came out of his torpor, opening confused eyes and straightening up slowly. Sitting in the middle of this huge crater, Kong looked around a bit, then took a handful of snow in his hand, staring curiously at this cold, soft white matter and watching it slip through his fingers. Letting out a low grunt, he seemed dissatisfied with where he had been taken.

Getting back on all fours, observing around him, the titan then saw Jia, dressed warmly against the biting cold and advancing to the edge of a small high observation platform. She still held her Kong doll in her hands and smiled at the titan. Behind her, standing at a distance, Ann and James Possible watched in silence, as did Berg and the group of men from Connections. Kong brought his face a few feet away from Jia, both looking into each other's eyes for a moment. Kong showed what looked like a smile, happy to see her. Jia then turned to Ann, as if asking if she could start, and Ann nodded. Jia then began to speak in sign language to her titan friend.

_ *House.* she signed, then indicated a gigantic airlock of round shape towards the bottom of the crater, and seeming to lead towards the bowels of the earth. Kong glanced over, but didn't seem convinced. Jia insisted, pointing to her doll as if to point to him, and went back up to the entrance of the tunnel. But even though Kong understood, he didn't seem to want to follow the request, and started to turn away, looking a bit sad. Jia, pained to see him like this, turned back to Ann, her eyes moist. The rest of the group was beginning to doubt.

_"Shit... it's not working." James whispered nervously.

_ "What did you expect? That he would obey like a well-trained dog?" Ann retorted with a sigh.

_ "Jia needs to try again." James really insisted on his ex-wife.

_ "But we don't even know if it's going to work." Ann said.

_"We lost an entire fleet to come here." replied James. "We can't bring him back to the island, and he has no chance of surviving here."

Meanwhile, Kong was contemplative, lost and sad in the middle of this big crater. He shook himself a little to remove the snow clinging to his fur. He didn't know what he was doing here. He thought back to his home... his island... where he had lived all his life... He wanted to go back... Letting out a sad groan, he shivered, beginning to suffer from the merciless cold these lands far from everything and without any source of food for a being as big as him. Seeing how much he was in pain and seeing Jia share that pain with him was like a stab in Ann's heart. She then decided to ask Jia to try again. She went to see her adopted daughter, and told her what she should tell Kong.

_ *Tell him...that there could be more, like him...inside.*

_*Family?* Jia asked then.

_ *I don't know.* Ann replied sincerely, not wanting to lie to her adopted daughter. *I hope so.*

Kong came back to Jia to see what she had to say. The girl, really hoping it might help her titan friend, obeys Ann's instructions.

_*Your family is probably in there.* she indicated, again pointing to the entrance to the tunnel.

Kong looked again, but this time, at the mention of the possible presence of other titans inside, the giant gorilla let out a growl and under everyone's gaze, began to take a quick step towards the tunnel.

_"He's going! Quick, prepare the HEAVs! We're coming! Come on, come on!" James ordered into the comm, and was immediately followed by the rest of the group to the hangar where the specialized shuttles built by Connections were waiting.

The three HEAVs were immediately activated and ready for takeoff. James Possible rode in one with Berg, while Ann and Jia rode in another together, fastening their seatbelts. The three shuttles took off without further delay and entered the tunnel. The underground cavity was more than huge, seeming to stretch for miles. Monarch really had to dig deep to find the entrance and had to build thick metal pillars by the hundreds to support the vault and keep it from collapsing.

_"Here it is!" Ann indicated.

Indeed, Kong was now in sight, moving nimbly, swinging from the rocky ceiling with his mighty hands, like a monkey leaping from branch to branch in the jungle. The HEAVs followed him at a good distance.

_ "Do you really think this monkey will survive this?" Berg asked.

_"Oh yes, he's safe." James replied confidently. "It's more for us that we should be worried about. We're going to go from 0 to thousands of miles in just a second, not to mention the reversal and the sudden pressure of gravity. It will be either the thing the most incredible that we have experienced, or the shortest."

Berg didn't seem reassured by these explanations and gulped, clinging to his seat. James then handed him a small paper bag, to vomit in case. Meanwhile, the ceiling rock gave way under Kong's hand, who then began to fall and slide down an ice-covered rock ramp. Trying to hang on unsuccessfully, the gorilla ends up falling into a very wide and deep chasm, still followed by the trio of high-tech shuttles. What presented itself in plain sight, at the bottom of the abyss, was spectacular and terrifying at the same time. Some kind of huge whirlwind of blue and purple energy spinning around like a vortex ready to swallow them. Kong was the first to pass through it, disappearing on the other side, and it was the turn of the shuttles. All the sensors on the control panels were panicking, sounding their signals.

Everything happened in a flash. The three shuttles found themselves propelled at supersonic speed in the middle of an immense dark and empty space. A total nothingness.

The feeling was indescribable to human brains. Everyone found themselves pinned down in their seats, crushed by colossal force, so much so that they couldn't even move a toe. They were forced to close their eyes, lightning-fast energetic lights exploding everywhere outside, like the landscape stretching and tearing into infinity. They felt like they were traveling millions of miles in seconds. The pressure was such that some were screaming in pain, almost begging for it to stop. James felt like his skull was going to burst. Ann gritted her teeth, also in pain. Jia was also suffering the consequences, but suddenly, again felt that invisible and benevolent female presence speaking to her in her mind...

"Everything will be fine, Jia... I'm here..."

Eventually, the HEAVs managed to resist and break through the vortex and found themselves violently spat out the other side, now plummeting through a dark cloudy sky, and just below was... Land! Huge expanses of jungle and mountains as far as the eye can see! A real world! They then saw Kong again, also continuing to fall like a huge stone in the middle of the air.

_"Restore the trajectory! Restore, damn it!" yelled James.

_"I'm trying!" answered the pilot in panic.

Kong meanwhile, ends up violently landing on the side of a sloping cliff, nevertheless cushioning his fall and allowing him to slide for several hundred meters, until finally clinging firmly to an edge, and then being able to return on dry land, fur completely shaggy and covered in leaves and tree debris which he removed, growling.

The HEAVs finally managed to stabilize themselves at the ambient gravity thanks to their specialized reactors, thus avoiding crashing violently on the ground. Slowly recovering from their atrocious experience in the vortex, everyone in the shuttles regained a little calm and breath, to finally contemplate through the windows of the cockpits, the surreal spectacle that was offered to them. These jungles and mountains that look so primitive and ancient, but also so majestic and mind-blowing...

_ "The Hollow Earth..." sighed James, mesmerized by everything he saw.

In their shuttle, Ann and Jia were also watching in wonder.

_ "Oh...my...god..." Ann breathed, her mouth hanging open. "If only Kim could see that..."

They had succeeded! The original place of the Titans! Where it all started! A world that already existed when the surface of the Earth was still an unlivable expanse. Some of the visible cliffs seemed to be imbued with this same vortex energy, cutting through the rock like countless glowing veinlets.

Kong continued to run with a certain eagerness in the middle of this new jungle which he discovered, but being quite similar to that which he had known on his island. Seeing Kong moving around like this made Jia smile again, and also Ann, who both shared a knowing look.

But suddenly, the land in front of Kong cracked and heaved as if a mountain was rising. _

_"Attention!" James warned, as the three shuttles came to a halt and now hovered in place.

Kong also stopped, frowning and baring his teeth as another giant creature just sprung up in front of him. With a length of 55 meters, it looked like a kind of huge black turtle with yellow eyes, a jaw adorned with two tusks, the carapace lined with sharp and pointed edges, and standing on four huge powerful legs. The creature stood up on its two hind legs, reaching a height of 80 meters, and roared at Kong, the latter also responding with a powerful roar as if to introduce himself and impose himself directly. Looking at the titan that had just appeared, Ann's eyes widened.

_ "Gamera... So this is where she was hiding." Ann said in surprise.

Gamera. One of the titans listed in Serizawa's grimoire, and also seen on many ancient frescoes found around the world, indicating that she had been worshiped since at least antiquity. According to recent discoveries by Monarch, Gamera was even revered by the inhabitants of legendary Atlantis, as Godzilla was, indicating that these two titans were part of the same divine pantheon of this extinct civilization. But unlike most titans who had been located and contained by Monarch, Gamera had never been found... And the reason was now known.

The shuttle pilots were about to fire with the cannons, but James and Ann ordered them to stop. Jia remained seated in her seat, fascinated to see this titan she didn't know, but also worried about Kong and hoping that it wouldn't escalate into a fight. Ann was not sure. Serizawa's writings described Gamera as a protective titan, a guarantor of balance, like was Mothra for exemple. But despite this, it was impossible to predict her reaction to Kong's presence, especially since these two monsters seemed to have never met before.

As Kong and Gamera faced each other, each roaring at the other as if to see who was going to back down first, a third roar was heard, catching everyone's attention. Coming at a slow pace from the jungle, crushing all the trees in its path, a third titan entered the scene, which Ann also recognized with amazement, this one also being referenced in the grimoire but also having never been located in the surface. Standing 30 meters height and 60 meters long, it looked like an enormous quadrupedal mammalian reptile with dark brown scales tinged with red, a large jaw full of teeth, black eyes, but its most striking features were the huge horn on his forehead, and also his two large drooping ears.

_"Baragon..." Dr. Possible whispered.

Jia then feared even more for Kong's safety, especially if these two other titans decided to team up against him. However, Gamera didn't seem happy with Baragon's presence and roared at him, to which, the horned reptile fiercely responded with his own voice. If Gamera was known as a protector, the case of Baragon remained rather vague, because his origins also remained quite mysterious.

However, Kong punched hard on his chest, then hitting the ground hard and let out a roar of such power that it drowned out the other two's, startling them and even causing them to cringe. Gamera and Baragon ceased their hostility, staring at the giant gorilla. They then saw Kong's gaze, as if they could read him, and then seemed to feel his full strength. Under the amazed gaze of the shuttle crews, Gamera and Baragon then moved aside, leaving the way to Kong, who with a firm nod, resumed his journey. Everyone in the HEAVs was relieved, and Jia smiled proudly for her friend.

_ "As I've always thought...Kong bows to no one." Ann said with a smile, as the shuttles resumed their escort of Kong, leaving the two other titans behind who watched for a moment as the giant gorilla moved away, the latter heading towards... The big mountain where it all started...
