Chapter 5 - The New Chosen One

Elsa's unexpected arrival and her decision to stay confused the crews of the military fleet, but in no way hampered the main mission. During the voyage, tons of fish had been caught and gathered into a huge heap so Kong could feed on the long sea trip. Still sitting and shackled by those chains, the titan nevertheless seemed happy to be able to eat something, grabbing hold of something. awesome handfuls of fish in his hand to swallow them all at once.

Elsa had been questioned about her coming here. According to her, Godzilla hadn't started attacking for no reason. Something had provoked him and now it was that same fury that blinded him, pushing him to abandon everything and destroy everything in his path until he found the culprit (s) of his anger. This explanation hadn't really convinced most of the carrier's crew, but Elsa didn't care. No matter what the opinions of others, she had to find her king and save him, even if for that she would have to face the humans. Seeing them treating Godzilla as enemies, after all he had done for them, made her sick and also furious, but she was holding back. The thought of being seen as a monster brought back terrible and very distant memories.

Towards evening, a torrential rain accompanied by a thunderstorm fell on the ocean, making visibility almost zero. Kong, having no place to shelter, was forced to stay in the rain, grumbling heavily as he vainly tried to shield himself a bit with one of his arms, his fur now completely soaked.

Meanwhile, Jia, who was normally supposed to sleep at this late hour, was unable to do so. Without the consent of her adoptive parents, Ann and James who were both staying in the main cabin with the others, Jia had left her room to cross some corridors, hiding from the few soldiers who were patrolling, to reach the room that had. been given to Elsa, towards the end of a hallway. Out of all the crew, Jia was the only one who believed Elsa's words about Godzilla. Something was wrong, she felt it too, but she couldn't say what.

Jia shyly opened the door to find Elsa, sitting silent on the small bed that had been lent to her, the bedroom half-dark and the rain pouring down on the porthole facing the dark night outside.

Sitting on the bed as if meditating, Elsa opened her eyes and smiled at Jia upon seeing her, and invited her in, which she did, closing the door behind her. The young girl, still intimidated but also admiring the supernatural beauty of this woman of ice, then came to sit in front of her on the bed.

_ "Listen, I watched you, Jia." said Elsa, who had learned her name shortly before. "I know you can't hear me or speak to me in words. And I'll be honest with you, I can't speak with signs. So ... are you able to read on my lips?"

Jia nodded, smiling, and then wrote something down on a piece of paper that she had brought with her.

*Yes, I can, if you don't speak too fast.*

Elsa chuckled at this response, but was at least satisfied to know that they could at least communicate. The two girls then remained a few moments in the most total silence, looking at each other, but without feeling embarrassed. They almost felt like they could talk to each other just by looking. Even though she had only known her for a few hours, Elsa felt a strong connection with Jia, almost like a sister. And she felt Jia had the same feeling. They both felt the bonds that united them to their titans, and also the power that lived in each of them.

_ "Tell me, Jia ..." Elsa asked, wanting to be sure of one thing. "Since when do you share this special bond with Kong? I mean ... not everyone can brag about being tied to a titan."

Jia read Elsa's lips and wrote down her response which she gave to the woman.

*When I was five years old, a violent storm destroyed my island and killed my parents and all my tribe. But without my understanding why, I heard this voice coming from the water. She spoke to me fondly, telling me that nothing could happen to me. The waves surrounded me but did not touch me. And so Kong came along, like he knew from the start where I was, and he took me with him, saving my life. I have always felt a bond between us, but since that day it seems to have grown stronger.*

Elsa felt sorry for Jia and what she had gone through losing all of her people, but on the one hand, knew what she could feel, being the last of her people too. But however, this story of voices in the water and waves appearing to be alive greatly intrigued the former Queen of Arendelle, but for her there was only one woman who had shown herself capable of controlling the ocean...

_ "And ... that voice ... does it still speak to you today?" Elsa asked for more.

Jia wrote and then gave him the answer.

* Yes, more and more often, mainly in my dreams. She is always kind, and I feel a caring presence, and also this attraction to the ocean, as if she is calling me. *

Elsa said nothing, but was now sure she knew who the source of that mysterious voice was. But in order not to disturb Jia too much and to avoid too quick a judgment, she chooses not to say anything and to find out more. For her, this little girl, the last of her tribe, was like her: she was a chosen one, chosen by fate to be linked to a titan and protect this world. Elsa then decided to try a harmless little experiment with Jia.

Elsa gently raised one of her open hands and magically made a small flake of ice appear, levitating above her palm. Jia opened her eyes shining with amazement and fascination at this magic. This expression on Jia's part was almost reminiscent of Anna's when Elsa magically created snowflakes from her hands, and it gently made the former Queen of Arendelle smile to see that same admiration and innocence on her face again. from another girl.

_ "Jia ... what I'm going to ask you may sound strange, but ... I would like you to try to return that ice flake to liquid state."

Jia had read Elsa's lips carefully and raised an eyebrow, very surprised at the request. But looking at the woman's face, she saw that she wasn't kidding. At first hesitant, Jia decided to do as she said, although she didn't think she could. She reached out her small hand towards the snowflake, feeling that little cold but not unpleasant aura around it. In the first few minutes, nothing happened and Jia looked a little frustrated, which made Elsa smile softly.

_ "Concentrate, Jia." Elsa explained to her. "Clear your mind. Think of nothing but this snowflake in my hand. Imagine returning it to its former state. Imagine the water. See it coming to you and obeying you. Erase the doubt. Erase the fear. Believe it, with all your heart and trust your bond."

Jia obeyed these instructions. She freed her heart and mind from any doubt that might be there, replacing it with the trust she had in Kong and the bond that united her to him. She could see the snowflake, as clearly as if she were looking at it with her eyes. She saw it turn back to water, floating up to her palm.

For her part, Elsa could feel the power that lived in Jia increasing in strength, but not losing control. She was pleasantly surprised by such mastery, at such a young age.

And finally, after long minutes of concentration, the flake gradually turned into liquid and translucent water, now floating above Elsa's hand who smiled when she saw the result. Jia was so surprised by what she had just done that she gasped softly, losing her concentration. The water fell back into Elsa's palm, but she wasn't bothered and wiped her off with a towel.

_ "It was very good, Jia." Elsa told her with genuine pride. "For a very first try, you were perfectly able to control your emotions. I myself had not succeeded the first time I discovered that I had powers. I even remember having almost frozen half of the castle unintentionally."

Jia managed to smile a little, but remaining shocked at the supernatural ability she had just demonstrated. She wasn't really scared, but was rather surprised, looking at her hands in puzzlement.

But suddenly, the young girl felt something else ... Kong ... She looked Elsa in the eyes, but the latter, without saying a word, made her understand by her gaze that she too had felt something, and proposed to her to go and see.

*************

Meanwhile, in the large main cabin of the aircraft carrier, the crew continued to monitor the screens while ensuring that the storm that continued outside did not endanger the stability of the ship.

But suddenly Ann and James, as they were both working side by side, like the others, felt a sudden tremor shake the whole ship. Immediately they heard furious growls with metal noises. On the ship's deck, Kong was angry, growling and tugging hard at his chains, failing to break them.

But Ann and James then noticed something on the deck of the ship, lit by large lamps that kept Kong on all the time. The hearts of both parents leap in their chests. It was Jia! She was outside, in the storm, accompanied by this woman, Elsa, and the two of them were walking steadily towards the titan.

_ "Jia ..." Ann gasped in fear.

_ "What the fuck are they doing?!" roared Berg, who in turn noticed and was not thrilled at all.

Ann and James didn't waste a moment and both ran out of the cabin to pick up Jia.

**************

Meanwhile, outside on the main deck of the aircraft carrier, Kong sat still, the rain streaming down his brown fur and now showing a dismal gaze. His gaze lifted slowly to the tiny human form advancing towards him, in the light of the lamps, and which he recognized immediately. Jia, without any fear, continued to advance towards the titan, with her doll in her hands. Elsa had stayed back, her hood over her head, and was gazing uneasily. Ann and James then came running up, dressed in rain coats.

_ "Jia!" James said with concern.

Elsa, however, stopped them from going any further, holding them both back by the sleeves of their coats.

_ "No, wait. Let her do it and watch." she told them confidently.

Meanwhile, Kong was gripped by that anger again and let out a heavy, broken moan, vainly pulling on one of the chains on his wrist. Jia walked forward and stood in front of him, showing a sad face for him to see him so imprisoned. She could feel his anger that he was expressing, but that he also had to contain within himself so as not to go mad and put her in danger. But also, she felt his sadness, much greater than his rage.

In order to support him and share his pain a bit, Jia raised her arm and held out a finger at him, as a sign. Kong noticed and seemed to regain his composure a little, leaning towards the young girl and gently bringing his giant hand towards her. Further back, Elsa, along with Ann and James watched in silence, both parents gawking at the surreal sight as Elsa continued to smile confidently.

Then, in the rain and night, Jia's tiny finger and Kong's giant finger touched each other gently, and immediately, the bond they shared was strengthened by their touch, which they both felt. . Jia even put her whole hand against Kong's finger, stroking tenderly to let him know that she was there and that she would never leave him. Kong gave her a friendly little growl and sat back down, now calm, yet still hinting at her sad moans.

Elsa then allowed Ann to go see Jia, while James was speechless at what had just happened. Ann ran towards her daughter, with some fear of getting so close to the titan and grabbed her daughter by the shoulders to take her with her, but Jia refused to move.

* Mia, what are you doing? You're not safe here. * Ann asked, signing with her hands.

Jia looked sad, as if sharing the same pain as Kong and pointed at him.

* Kong is sad ... and angry! * Jia replied emphatically.

* It's because he doesn't understand. We want to help him, it's for his own good. * Ann signed in turn to reassure her daughter, even though it didn't seem to be working.

Kong also didn't show much conviction, and Jia already knew that.

* He doesn't believe that. *

* And how do you know that? * Ann asked.

* Because he told me.* Jia asserted then.

This answer surprised Ann even more, who did not know what to answer. How was it possible that Kong told her?

Kong then confirmed the girl's words by doing something that left everyone speechless except Elsa who smiled, as if expecting this. Kong spoke in sign language, and with a sign, made understand a single but very precise word ...

* Home. *

Ann couldn't believe it even though she had just seen it. Kong could speak in sign language. In the main cabin, Berg and his men had observed all of this.

_ "Am I dreaming or ... this monkey just talk?" Berg sighed in amazement.

Meanwhile, outside, James didn't know what to say, running his hands over his eyes and having to take a few seconds to analyze the information that had just popped into his boiling brain.

_ "How ... how is that possible?" he sighed.

_ "Because it simply is." Elsa replied calmly, who had stayed next to him and was looking at Kong with the utmost respect. "Because contrary to what he likes to think, the human is not the smartest creature in this world."

James looked at Elsa, not knowing what to say to that hard-hitting phrase. And with those words the rain and wind suddenly ceased, as very slowly the first light of the new dawn began to rise, the sun waking up beyond the ocean horizon and slowly chasing away the darkness of the night. Kong noticed this and turned his gaze for a moment to the dawning dawn, letting hear a loud roar.

************

A little later, when the sun had fully risen and lit up the surface of the ocean with its rays, Jia had wanted to return to her cabin, but Ann caught up with her and held her by the arm, without hurting her, to get him to talk to him again.

* Jia, why didn't you tell me? You knew I had been trying to communicate with him for months. *

Jia answered without delay.

* It was Kong who told me not to say anything. He didn't want humans to know he can talk. *

*Why?*

* Because he was afraid. *

With this blunt and confusing response from Jia, Ann didn't know what to add more and let her adopted daughter go into her room and close the door. Ann stood in the hallway, silent and thoughtful, both disappointed but also understanding of the secret Jia had kept from her all this time.

_ "You know, I fully understand Jia's decision not to reveal anything." Suddenly said Elsa who appeared around the corner of the corridor, calmly, and came to join Ann to speak with her. The Monarch scientist huffed softly but showed some hostility towards Elsa as to how to talk to her as if to lecture her in morale.

_ "Finally, the humans will have succeeded in making a god feel fear ..." Elsa added, almost like a judgment. "Make him fear for his life if we ever find out what he's capable of."

_ "You knew what was going to happen ..." Ann sighed darkly and forcing herself to remain calm. "Yet I told you to stay away from my daughter."

_ "You sincerely love your daughter, I know that." Elsa replied without hostility. "But you also have to understand that she is not like the others, you have had proof of that. There are forces in this world that you cannot protect her from ... but Kong, yes ..."

Meanwhile, inside her bedroom, Jia was sitting on her bed and trying to clear her mind by playing with her Kong doll a bit. So many things were jostling in her mind now ... discovering her control over the water, then strengthening her bond with Kong ... She also felt guilty for lying to her foster mother about Kong, but on the other hand, she feared what the humans would be able to do to her friend to discover all these secrets.

But as she was thinking, Jia was suddenly crossed by a strange sensation, a powerful shiver that ran through her whole body. Turning her gaze to her bedroom window, she then rested the palm of her hand against the cold sheet metal wall. Even though she could not hear anything, she thought she felt, coming from outside, in the water, very powerful vibrations, and seeming to be approaching at great speed ... she even thought she discerned another kind of vibration, but this times, express by a sound coming from a mouth ...

On the deck of the aircraft carrier, Kong seemed to feel the same too, lifting his head and looking around, showing his teeth and scowling. But most affected was Elsa, who gasped forcefully, her eyes growing round and her heart tightening in her chest, causing her to wobble and fall to her knees to the ground, in front of Ann in surprise.

This rage of a monstrous power which crushed her and which seemed to approach, she recognized it, which accentuated her fear.

_ "What's going on? Are you okay?" Ann asked, kneeling beside her.

Suddenly, Jia hurried out of her cabin, looking distraught and lost in her signs to try to talk to Ann, who had to calm her down a bit to understand. Kong's furious roar then echoed throughout the ship, to the amazement of the crew. But it was Elsa, who, gripping Ann's shoulder firmly, made her understand the situation, as the ship's general alert went off.

_ "It's him ... he's coming ... Godzilla."
