Chapter 2 - Coincidences and Consequences

Jia suddenly emerged from her sleep. Sitting in her bed, in the room given to her in the Skull Island site complex, the little girl was panting softly, coming to her senses and trying to come to terms with reality. She was fine, she was safe. Turning on her little bedside lamp, she looked for a moment at her bedroom window, seeing that outside at night it was still raining in torrential rain, a few lightning bolts exploding even in the dark sky in the distance. But it wasn't the bad weather that worried Jia, leaving her thoughtful, curled up in her blanket and holding Kong's little doll near her.

What disturbed her was the dream she had just had. The same that was happening, almost every night now, for the past few days. He looked so real. Each time, she found herself surrounded by these gigantic waves of water, circling around her like a whirlpool but never coming to cover her. And this feminine presence, both powerful but reassuring, which was felt in these waves ... she recognized it ... this same presence which had manifested itself on the day when the storm ravaged the island and where she was saved by Kong. Jia couldn't figure out what that force that seemed to follow and watch over her could be like, and which Kong seemed to know as well.

And in the reflections of the bigger and bigger waves, Jia could see kind of strange images ... she sometimes saw herself, as well as another woman, very beautiful, with blond hair and wearing a white and very elegant dress giving her the look of an angel ... she also saw Kong, but also this other titan that everyone seemed to fear, Godzilla ... the two titans faced each other, in a terrible confrontation, but the image became confused, leaving doubt as to the outcome of the fight.

In her heart and in her mind, Jia was truly worried about her titan friend. It wasn't surprising, she loved him a lot, but this time her concern for him was much stronger, as was her attachment to him. She had felt that bond between them grow stronger over the months, in ways she couldn't explain.

Sitting in her bed, and glancing at her Kong doll she was holding in her hands, Jia then raised her attention to the rain and lightning reigning outside. Deep inside, she could feel it... something was brewing. Something that far exceeded anything humanity could imagine.

***********

In the days and weeks that followed, news of Godzilla's reappearance after just over two years of disappearance had traveled the world like wildfire. Everywhere, in all countries, television channels broadcast the same report and the same images filmed. Godzilla was shown, his eyes and back gleaming in the night and berserk, unleashing his atomic breath on the supposedly abandoned premises of the APEX factory, in a heavy deluge of explosions and flames, and just after the destruction, came back in the ocean to disappear.

In the small town of Middleton, located in Colorado near Denver, Kim Possible was in her bedroom. Sitting on her bed after a rather mundane day at her high school, she immediately took her laptop and hooked up to the local media channel for her to watch the report as well. Ron had accompanied her and sat next to her, not saying a word. Although the prom is in a few days at their high school, the two students did not really have the head to party, what they had discovered in the factory does not cease to haunt them.

"Two years after the tragic San Fransokyo incident, the giant monster known as Godzilla reappeared to attack the town of Pensacola in Florida. The titan destroyed several planes and killed several elite pilots from the military base, before unleashing his anger on the old Apex factory, causing massive damage. But this time, it seems that the monster was not accompanied by this mysterious Ice Woman who was with him two years ago. In response to this attack, the U.S government decreeded that all means would be used to find Godzilla and stop him."

After listening to the news read by the TV presenter, Kim stopped the video and remained thoughtful, staring straight ahead. Ron watched her do it for several seconds, not daring to disturb her, but was just as confused as she was about the report.

_ "There is something wrong." Kim sighed, running her hand over her forehead from the fatigue of the day. "They say Godzilla attacked the city ... but you saw him like me, Ron: he only destroyed the Apex factory."

_ "And I know you Kim. For you, it's not just a coincidence." Ron added with a smirk.

_"Exactly." she said, sure of her theory. "He could have destroyed the whole town if he wanted to, but no, his only target was the factory ... where then, something that was there ... like that thing we found in the basement."

Ron also remembered that sort of ominous big metallic red eye, and shivered just thinking about it.

_ "But in your opinion ... what was that thing?" Ron asked.

_ "No idea ... if we could have stayed longer, I would have asked Wade to analyse it." Kim breathed, falling limply on her bed, her arms crossed.

Ron left her to her thoughts and went to sit in the bedroom bureua, where Rufus was busy feasting on a burito Ron bought from Bueno Nacho before returning to Kim's house. Ron ate his with a good appetite, even sharing a bite with his animal. After several minutes, Kim sat up on her bed.

_ "We need to get back to the factory, Ron. I need to clear this up and also find out what Simmons was up to with Shego."

She got up from the bed and grabbed her communicator from her bedside table. Without waiting, Wade appeared on the screen, still installed behind his multiple screens and sipping a soda.

_ "Wade, do what you can but schedule us an express flight to Pensacola, Florida." Kim ordered with determination.

*************

Meanwhile, far from Middleton, more specifically in the city of Boston, another member of the Possible family was also having to deal with his own problems.

In the city center, in a very modest three-room apartment in a total mess, was a man over forty, with dark hair, an unshaven chin, dozing limply in his armchair, an empty beer bottle resting in next to him on a small table. This man was named James Possible. Once a brilliant scientist and rocket designer working for NASA, he had since fallen into disrepair. It all started with the return of Godzilla and the rediscovery of the existence of the titans in San Fransokyo. James had been so fascinated by these creatures that he began to study them and their history, to the point that it had become an obsession. One theory in particular had germinated in his mind: that of Hollow Earth. According to him, under the surface of the planet, there would be a whole other world, governed by a unique ecosystem and even older than that of the surface, and at the top of this ancestral food chain, would be the titans. For him, this was the only possible explanation that giant beings such as the titans could have remained hidden from the rest of the world for so long.

James had written a book about his theory of titans and Hollow Earth. Unfortunately, his book was not successful and on the contrary, gave James the reputation of a madman. Very quickly, he lost his job and his obsession with the titans and Hollow Earth had even caused his wife, Ann Possible, to separate from him. Now alone and his reputation ruined, James had moved to Boston and had fallen into alcoholism.

As James dozed, the doorbell on his front door snapped him out of his drunken slumber, causing him to jump out of his chair. He grumbled, his head pounding hard and his mouth as dry as a desert. Eyes aching and scratching the back of his head, he scrambled to open the door, though he wasn't expecting a visit.

As he opened his door, James was amazed to find a group of people standing in front of him. He gasped, fearfully recognizing several of them. Walter Simmons, Doctor Drakken and Shego, accompanied by several men wearing black uniforms and with faces masked by balaclavas.

_ "Good evening, Mr. Possible." Drakken smiled coldly with all his teeth.

_"You!" James gasped in shock and stepping back.

Immediately he turned his attention to his phone and ran to pick it up, but Shego reacted and destroyed the object with a definite shot of green flames, which nearly scorched James to the hand. Simmons in turn acted, motioning for two of the henchmen to grab James by the arms and force him to sit in his chair while threatening him with electric batons. The fallen scientist dared not move, looking frantically at the three scoundrels who entered his apartment. Shego remained silent, evil eyes and a cruel smile on her dark lips, as she closed the door. Simmons, in his big black coat, walked with Drakken in front of James to talk to him.

_ "I don't know what you want from me, but I..." James began to say, but was immediately interrupted by a monumental slap from Simmons.

_ "First of all you will shut up and listen to what we have to say." Simmons replied firmly.

Drakken had moved to a box in a messy corner of the living room, and found inside a whole storehouse of books, the Hollow Earth-based novel that had been written by James Possible.

_ "Dr. Possible, I'll be blunt ..." Drakken declared, throwing the book into the scientist's lap. "I read your book, as did Walter Simmons here, and we were very interested ... because you see, just like you, we are convinced of the existence of this other world, lying beneath our feet, and all the potential it could offer."

_ "And you want to go there? But it's a crazy idea!" James replied.

_ "I've always liked crazy ideas. That's what made my fortune." Simmons then added with a smirk.

_ "Anyway, it's just impossible ..." said James Possible. "I did some research and some calculations, and I came to the conclusion that the gravitational pressure present in the tunnels leading into Hollow Earth is so powerful and sudden that nothing could resist it. We would be completely crushed and pulverized. Due to their colossal size and unique organism, the Titans are so far the only ones able to go."

_ "And that is why with the incredible technology of APEX, I was able to develop a means of transport that could allow us to be the first to cross the passage: I called it the HEAV (Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicle)."

With these words, the creator of APEX showed, using a hologram, the image of a ship with a smooth appearance and equipped with four thrusters.

_ "Thanks to its technological marvels, we will be able to explore this new world, and finally discover this unique energy which would then allow us to bring a new era to our civilization." Simmons said with conviction.

James looked at this in bewilderment, but was quickly worried when Drakken grabbed him by the shoulder to speak to him again.

_ "Reading your book, I came to a theory that may well turn out to be correct: as you say, the titans are the only ones who can come from Hollow Earth without risking death. But like any living creature, sooner or later they return to their homelands, a bit like a salmon returning to the river where it was born or like elephants always returning to their birthplaces."

James was afraid to understand what he meant by that.

_ "You want to use a titan to find this ancient source of energy ... do you realize what you are doing?!"

_ "It's more up to you to ask yourself, my dear ..." Simmons said to him, grabbing him firmly under the jaw. "Godzilla is a definite threat to our species, and even the most powerful of our weapons has proved useless against him. This hidden and very ancient source of energy, which he himself seems to feed on, may well be the only way to go to destroy it. Use an enemy's own strength to defeat it."

_ "And to correct your interpretation, Dr. Possible, it is not we who will use this titan to carry out this expedition ... you will do it." Drakken sneered.

_ "Are you kidding? I will never help you, so kill me, it will go faster." James spat contemptuously at the two criminals, but held back harshly by the henchmen.

Simmons and Drakken shared a look not really surprised at the fallen scientist's reaction.

_ "We knew you were going to say that, but unfortunately for you, we do not leave you the choice ..." said Simmons who moved aside to let Shego pass, who held in his hands a syringe which however did not contain any liquid, but a sort of little microchip with dozens of tiny, undulating metal tentacles that twisted around the syringe trying to get out.

_ "Hold his head!" Shego ordered.

Without wasting time, the henchmen took action, one blocking James 'arms on the chair, the second blocking his legs, and the third moving behind the backrest and wrapping his arms around James' head to hold it. in place. The scientist struggled, in vain.

_ "You won't feel anything, Dr. Possible." explained Drakken cruelly. "But without even realizing it, you'll do absolutely anything we want to."

James knew there was no point in struggling and saw Shego move closer to him, and injected him with the tiny robotic parasite created by APEX Corporation, directly into his neck.

Meanwhile...

In Oslo, Norway, as around the world, people had heard about the attack on Titan Godzilla in Florida. In a small bar-restaurant located in the city center, the television located in a high corner, continuously broadcast the news recounting this incident which had occurred weeks ago now. Sitting at their tables or at the counter, the people present watched in concern, fearing what would happen next now that this giant monster seemed in the thirst for limitless destruction.

Sitting at the back of the bar, alone at a table, body and face hidden under a gray hooded jacket, Elsa had listened to this news, and every word had been like a stab in the heart. How could they say such absurd things about his king? Judging him as a threat and as a destroyer, he who had saved this world so many times without ever being thanked as he should ... this constant blindness of humanity made Elsa sick, and also angry, but she was held back so as not to attract attention.

It didn't matter what people thought. Elsa came out of the building, her hood pulled up over her head and her hands in her pockets. She began to walk down the street, showing then a look determined to continue his search to find Godzilla and find out what could have prompted him to leave without her and launch attacks, which she had noticed, was concentrating on. all on facilities owned by APEX Corporation.
