Hunters or Camp Half-Blood?
Percy being the smart boy he was seemed surprised at that.
"Um... ok," he said ever so smartly. But I knew that this girl who claimed to be Artemis was really Artemis. I could sense her beautiful silver aura surrounding her. And gods and goddesses can appear as anything like the way a lot of the gods got to mortal women. Grover on the other hand stuttered and bowed and all that. He looked like he was about to do anything that Artemis would tell him to do. But Thalia glared at him.
"Get up goat boy! We have other things to worry about! Annabeth is gone!" She snapped.
"Whoa hold up. Time out," Bianca cut in. We all looked at her and she looked at all of us confused. "Who...who are you people?" She asked. Artemis almost smiled.
"It would be a better question my girl to ask who are you. Who are your parents?" Artemis asked gently.
"Our parents are dead. We're orphans. There's a bank trust that pays our school but..." she faltered. I think our expressions told her we didn't believe her. "What? I'm not lying!"
"You are a half blood. One of thy parents was mortal. The other was an Olympian," Zoe spoke. Her accent was weird. And who used the word 'thy'?
"Olympian... athlete?" Bianca asked slowly.
"No. One of the gods,"
"Cool!" Nico grinned.
"No! Not cool!" But Nico danced around almost reminding me of when Percy saw that Little Mermaid doll when he was eight.
"Does Zeus really have lightning bolts that do six hundred damage? Does he get extra movement points for-"
"Shut up Nico! This is not your stupid Mythomagic game!" Bianca facepalmed almost like she was embarrassed. I felt sorry for both of them. I remember the first time I learned I was a demigod. I took it well but I was uneasy at first. I don't know how I took it so well. But Percy was a whole different situation. He didn't think the gods were real. Chiron had to go through this whole lecture. Bianca was like Percy, Nico was like me. We had to explain to Bianca that the gods are real and in the US.
"Our lives are dangerous," I said.
"Dangerous. Like the girl who fell," I bit my lip and slowly nodded. Artemis said that she will go look for Annabeth.
"But why can't you let us find her?" Percy asked.
"She is gone. Can't you sense it Son of Poseidon? There is magic at work. I don't know how or why but she has vanished," Artemis explained. As much as I wanted to protest and say that Annabeth was waiting for us down in the water I knew Artemis was right. I could feel a hint of magic in the air.
"I can sense it Lady Artemis. Sadly," I muttered. She nodded toward me. Then Nico asked about the manticore and we had to explain to him about the regeneration of monsters and whatnot. We also told them about camp.
"Sweet! Let's go!" Nico said excitedly.
"I don't think-"
"There is another option," Zoe stepped up.
"No there isn't!" Thalia screamed.
"Bianca. Claira. I would like to speak to you. Hunters let's set up camp here," Artemis ordered. I glanced at Bianca. I had no idea what would be awaiting me. Or Bianca. I looked at Percy. He shrugged. But Thalia... Thalia looked like she was about to explode.
"Claira I swear to all the gods if you say yes I will find a way to kill you!" She yelled after me. Then Zoe came up to me glaring at Thalia.
"Do not listen to her. She is troubled," Zoe gave both me and Bianca a kind smile. Artemis led us to a tent. All three of us sat in a circle on the tent's ground. Artemis took a deep breath.
"I will start with you Bianca since you are new. I am Artemis goddess of the Hunt. I have my group of Hunters here. They are maidens who have sworn to me that they will leave the company of foolish males and take part of the Hunt. Now Bianca. You have your little brother. He seems like a handful to you. You could join me and my Hunters and leave him in the hands of Camp Half Blood and get to know who your parents are. Or stay with him and train at that camp and possibly never get claimed and know who your parents are. I shall leave you with making your choice," then she turned to me. Her smile seemed to get a little bigger. "Ms. Vega. I have heard stories of you from Chiron and from your father and from Hermes. We share the same birthday which is quite intriguing. Seventh day of the seventh month. I have heard of your amazing archery skills that can be useful in the Hunt. And your leadership skills as well. You also have a brother. An older brother this time. Yes they are annoying. Trust me I know. Apollo is an idiot all the time. If you wish to, you could also join me and my Hunters. If you wish to stay with Camp Half Blood I will mind only a little. I won't shoot you down," Artemis said. "Ok girls. I'll leave you to thinking about it. Zoe could you get Percy Jackson for me please?" Artemis asked.
"Yes my lady," Zoe stood and went outside the tent. While she was fetching Percy I started to think about what my choice would be. I knew the right choice. To stay at camp with Percy and Thalia and try to find Annabeth somehow. But then there was the other choice, nagging at me. Stay with the Hunters and join them in the Hunt. Hunt down monsters and animals. Get to sharpen my skills as an archer. That was very tempting. Being free from my brother. I loved him but sometimes he can just be too stupid for me to handle. Then Zoe walked in. Behind her was Percy. He sat next to me. Artemis asked about what Dr. Thorn had said. Percy said that someone called the General would explain things to him. Artemis went pale. She was as still as a statue. Percy also talked about a mention of the Great Stirring. Artemis said that she will go and hunt the scent that she said is a millennia old. And she also said that Zoe and the rest of the Hunters would go to Camp Half-Blood while she was gone.
"But we hate that place!" Zoe exclaimed.
"You have the right to use Cabin Eight when you are in need. And now one last decision to make. Or rather two," Artemis turned her attention to me and Bianca. "My dears have you made your minds?" She asked. I looked at Bianca. She looked at me.
"I'm still thinking about it," we muttered.
"Wait. Thinking about what?" He asked. I hesitated.
"Artemis has invited me and Bianca to become Hunters," I answered.
"What? But you can't! You have to come to Camp Half-Blood so Chiron can train you! It's the only way you can learn to survive. And Clair you know that the camp needs you," Percy said.
"I know Percy. But it's my life. I could do what I want to. Be free. And put my bow and arrows to use," I looked at Artemis. "Lady Artemis do you mind? I need a minute," I said.
"Take all the time you need my girl," Artemis gestured to the entrance of the tent. I stood. But then I felt Percy grab my arm.
"Don't leave," he pleaded.
"Let go Percy. This is harder than you think," he did let go and I walked out into the cold. Why is this decision suddenly so difficult? I headed a little into the woods. I found a good rock and sat. I sighed. What should I do?
