three | in wonderland
"Titan?" My father's menacing voice hisses, and the false smile plastered on his lips could crack any moment.
"Um-" I stutter, wringing my hands together, sweat slowly forming on my palms.
My back cannot handle another beating.
Think of something you idiot.
"It was-"
"What Titan meant, was that we can't tell you about our new secret language." Alejandra states smoothly, the lie falling from her lips like water down a quiet stream.
She looks over at me, and smiles softly and I send a grateful beam back.
Father eyes her skeptically, analyzing every feature of her, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's listening to her heartbeat.
Please.
"Is that so?" Father questions, his eyes squinting.
"Yes, sir. We were going to make a secret language so we could talk about our secret club without anyone realizing."
How old does she think we are?
"I see, well, try not to get yourselves in trouble." And the door shuts behind him.
I exhale a huge sigh of relief, leaning my head backwards.
"Thank you." I whisper to Alejandra, and she just smiles and gives me a wink that sends goosebumps down my arms.
"Secret language?" Alvarez laughs heartily, wiping at invisible tears. "That's the best you could come up with? What are we, five?"
"You are." She snaps, and shoves his shoulder lightly. "I had to say something, no offense Titan, but your father is kind of scary."
If only you knew...
"Lots of alphas are like that."
"Whatever." She shrugs, and takes another sip of her drink.
We sit in silence for a moment, watching the fire crackle in the dim light.
"We can't just forget this." She whispers softly, and I look over to her, watching the shadows from the fire dancing on her perfect skin.
"Why not?" Alvarez mutters, picking at the fabric on the carpet.
"You can't just forget things, Al." She whispers. "That beast came right for us, it was out for blood. What happens when the pack members go on a run? Or if a pup is outside playing in the snow?"
No one speaks, allowing the weight of her words to settle into our stomachs.
"How are we going to discover anything if we have to do it in secret?" I ask.
"We'll just have to be careful." Alejandra whispers. "This place is huge, there have to be some secrets hidden here." More than you know.
"I suppose."
"Favorite book?"
"Alice in Wonderland."
"That doesn't count, that's a children's book."
"It is not."
We're lying on the rug in the living room, staring up at the reflection of the flames dancing on the ceiling.
"Why do you like it so much?" I ask Alejandra.
"Because I always wished I was Alice. I wished I could jump through rabbit holes and into different worlds and have my own little world. This one is entirely too big."
I turn my head to the side, watching her lashes flutter under her closed eyes.
"Haven't you ever wanted to disappear into a different world?" She asked, opening her eyes and turning to gaze directly at me.
I just stare into her eyes for a moment, watching myself watching her in the glistening reflection.
"Every day." I whisper.
Alvarez yawns loudly, and I flinch away from Alejandra.
For a moment I was in another world. The universe hidden in her eyes.
"I don't." Alvarez muttered.
"Why not?" Alejandra asks.
"Because in a different world I would be a different person, and I don't want to be anyone but me. Ever."
"How come?" I ask a bit irritated.
"I dunno." He mutters, yawning again. "My world is pretty good right now, I wouldn't trade my life for anything."
Must be nice. Being the Golden Boy.
"I'm going to be the greatest alpha in the world one day." Alvarez whispers, raising his arms to the ceiling, tracing the ghosts of orange. "I'm going to have a pack, and my own beta, my own mate. I'm going to be the greatest alpha the world has ever seen. A legend."
I don't even know if I'm going to be alive in time to be alpha.
"Yeah right," Alejandra teases, leaning up onto her elbows, allowing her dark hair to fall over her shoulders. "You'd probably wreck your pants at the sight of a rogue."
"Would not." He snaps, sitting up on his heels.
"Never mind that," He quips, rubbing his eyes. "I'm still going to be alpha, and have my luna, and my pups, and a family...It's going to be perfect."
The sound of his dreams makes me want to rip my heart out of my chest. Rip out the part of my soul that hopes for that life, the one with the beautiful mate whose body is made perfectly for mine. The pups that laugh and play among lilies and green under a rose colored sky.
I want to punch him, sew his mouth together, to stop him from preaching of the dream that cannot be. But the dream that he will inevitably have. The Golden Boy with the Golden Future. While I sit here, the Broken Bastard and the Failed Son.
"That's stupid." Alejandra mutters.
"Why?" Alvarez pouts.
"It's just that everyone has that dream, don't you have any dreams of your own?"
"What's the point? When I have the perfect dream already?"
"I don't know, dreams are meant to be a part of you."
"Alright then, what are your dreams?"
Alejandra sits back, thinking for a moment, a tiny crease appearing between her eyebrows.
"I want learn every skill in the world. Experience everything. Live a full life."
"Wow, so dreamy." Alvarez rolls his eyes with a mock pout.
"At least I have a real dream." Alejandra mutters. "What about you, Titan? What's your dream?"
To escape my father.
To find my mother again.
To erase the scars from my back.
To dominate the world.
"You know, be alpha, have a mate, the usual." I state with a wave of my hand, the lie burning my lips like acid.
"Typical men." Alejandra drawls, rolling her beautiful eyes.
A bell rings through the house, the bell signaling pack dinner.
"What's that?" Alvarez whines.
"Dinner." I mutter.
"Thank god, I'm starving." He jumps to his feet, hopping from side to side like a hyperactive squirrel.
He races towards the door of the wing, and I help Alejandra to her feet, her tiny hand warm as I enclose it with mine.
"Thanks." She smiles softly, and I drop her hand quickly.
"This way." I begin to lead her to the door when she grabs my arm.
"Hey, I know you weren't telling the truth, about your dream."
"W-what are you talking about?" I ask in mock confusion.
"Don't worry, you don't have to tell me now." She smiles. "But let me know when you're ready to share." And she turns her back, following Alvarez to the door of the wing.
And that was the day I fell in love with the beautiful blue eyed girl.
Hope you're enjoying :))))))) please share if you are :))))))))
