How Can Good Smut Be Written

Hopefully these notes will help you guys :)

These notes will focused on Heterosexual intercourse but it can be altered to be used for any type with any gendered couples.

1. Know your stuff

It's always best to have knowledge about what you are going to be presenting to other people here on Wattpad. Knowing what kind of smut you want to write is also a good idea. Plan ahead on what you are going to write. Know what parts go where and the basic anatomy of both the male and female body.

2. Pick the name for parts

Though this may not seem like a big deal, the words that you choose for the sex organs can greatly effect what you write and who reads your smut. Some words are a little harder to read, at least for me, and I usually stay away from these words. Though these words can appeal to others, it might not to the rest.

word choice one:

cock/dick, pussy/vag/cunt

Word choice two: 

Penis/member, Vagina/center/core

The words that you use can effect what you write, if you want to write something meaningful and sweet.. I'd stay away from word choice 1, those words are just too childish to use in serious smuts that appeal to a lot of people.

3. Be Realistic

Know that sex does not last long, a man or a woman can NOT last longer than an hour on one orgasm. (Maybe they can, this is where research comes in) Sex is not a clean process, it's sweaty, Sticky and there is stuff everywhere. The more realistic your smut is, the more enjoyable your smut will be.

4. Don't Be Afraid of Kinks 

If you're into writing some steamy scenes, using kinks can liven up the scene. There are so many kinks that I know nothing about but the most common ones are Bondage and Daddy Kink. There are other kinks that you can discover that you might like.

5. Know What Smut Is!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a very important rule to smut that is still being neglected in the writing community, especially because under aged writers and people who don't know anything are attempting to write something they don't understand. 

Smut is the ACTION of SEX such as Naked Sex organs are inside each other or against each other. 

If your characters are NOT HAVING SEX, IT IS NOT SMUT 

Don't misuse warnings to get people to read your book!!! Or even use the word "SMUT" to get reads when there is no smut. 

SMUT=SEX 

People writing "SMUT" need to know this, don't get tricked into reading a poorly written story because it says smut. It's better to read the good stuff that's hard to find, than the read the bad stuff that's everywhere.

I'm sorry but if you don't know what sex is or how it works, you probably shouldn't be writing smut. And I'm not here to tell you about the birds and the bees, I ain't anyone's momma lol.

I wish people would say this politely to the people who think they're writing smut.

6. Feelings

Depending on what feelings you want to present in your smut, this is something that should feel natural with writing. 

Fluff, Slow, First Time or Gentle smut

The way that you use your words here should flow in a slow manner. Indicate that the dominate is being soft and gentle, slow with their movements towards the submissive. 

ex: He's gentle with me, he doesn't want to hurt me.. I can tell in his feather like touch as his lips barely fan my neck in a teasing way. His strokes are slow, it makes me arch my back as pleasure rushes though my body.

Rough, Kinky, Hard

Words that you use can change any scenario, should indicate the roughness of the scene.

ex: He's rough with me, he grips me in place with strong hands.. I can tell in his tight strong touch as his lips roughly assaults my neck with aggressive sucks and bites. His strokes are hard, it makes me arch my back as pleasure rushes though my body.

-please don't use my examples for yourself, this was to show you the difference between scenarios

In the words that you choose can change a scenario, wrote the exact same scenario but changed the underlined words to fit the type of smut. 

The words that you use is crucial in catching the readers attention and allowing them to see that your writing is different. This is where you can use your own words that will help your writing stand out from others.

7. Dialogue is Okay

You can add very little or minimal dialogue to carry on the smut, don't put too much where the smut is lost and readers question what is going on. My only tip on this one is to make sure that there isn't too much or too little because some dialogue is good.

8. Write Something New

Though everyone had their position preferences, it's always refreshing and exciting to introduce new kinks are positions.

9. Don't Be Afraid of Certain Words

Using these words at the right time can give the readers better ways to imagine what is going on in your scene.

ex: Throbbing, Wet, Moist

You can find the words that work for you and your writing style

10. Dominant and Submissive

In the smut production, it is best that you pick your dominant and submissive character. 

Dominant Character: The character that usually starts the action of sex, the one that makes the decision on what positions will be performed. This character is usually the male character, but it is your choice who gets the be the dom. This character can change in different scenes.

Submissive Character: The character the follows the dom's rules or actions, this character does have say SOMETIMES when it comes to positions. Sometimes this character can become the dom. Usually the female character but can be the male as well. 

Dom=Leader 

Sub=Follower

11. Rape or Consensual

This is also a very important rule in smut writing. I will get straight to it..

If one of the characters that is going to be involved in intercourse is second thinking the act, and thinks this during the act... this is rape. 

ex: I'm not sure if I really want this, I'm nervous but he really wants to do it.. we might as well..

Make sure that your characters are all 100% okay with it, and second guessing that is not verbally spoken to the other character is rape.

12. Incest.. Just don't, But Know

As a reader and writer here on Watt since 2016, I can say that I've seen many people write about this and not know what it is. Here's the definition:

Incest: Incest is human sexual activity between family members or close relatives. This typically includes sexual activity between people in consanguinity, and sometimes those related by affinity, adoption, clan, or lineage.

Sexual Activity: Sexual touching (this could be using your hands, your body or your mouth such as kissing), Oral sex, Anal sex, Vaginal sex (with a penis or any other object)

Consanguinity: the fact of being descended from the same ancestor.

Affinity: relationship, especially by marriage as opposed to blood ties.

Though a lot of the writers of these books say it is not incest, it is. Saying that it isn't is trying to justify that what you write is okay. It's like trying to justify many other things that is seen as very wrong, such as rape, child pornography or bestiality.  

So if you've thought about writing a story where a step siblings fall in love, or even blood siblings.. DON'T

13. Practice Makes.. Better

Know that if you are struggling with writing smut, that's okay! No one can actually perfect the writing of smut because sex is not perfect. If you practice and practice, you will get better in time. don't copy other writers but be inspired to write better in your own way!
