Grammar is one way

Hi guys, I am back with another topic–although a bit late, please forgive me alright!

This is a topic I am not so ecstatic about and I am sure some of your reading this might not be too.

First of, grammar has everything to do with description and likewise. Ever tried to picture something in your head but there's just not the right words to express it? How about you just try.

I personally make use of a word checker, an app that is mostly based off Scrabble (a word game). It helps a lot in grammar and making use of less repetitive words.

See this app engages me in finding out synonyms and antonyms for common tenses. I would suggest a word taurus or something too, that also works.

Here's an example.

I walked from my house to school that was just a few miles away. On getting to the fine building, I walked past the mob of students and headed to my locker to dispose my books.

What do you think is structurally wrong with the sentence above?? There's only one word for it and that is DESCRIPTION.

Here I stated that I walked from my house to school blah blah blah, no description on what I saw on the way, no visual picturization of my physical appearance (don't dump all the info at once please).

Did the birds chirp so early in the morning? Hear any car noises or everything was peaceful, note anything in particular? The school building, how fine was it? Are there lawns or well trimmed flower hedges, what are the colour combinations?

How am I going to include all that without a good knowledge of grammar. I suggest using these aforementioned apps or a dictionary (if you feel it's preferable). Or read books, lots lots and lots of well written books. Let your imagination run wild, watch movies, note any and everything, pay attention to the little details around you.

Take pictures, maybe take note of the subtle tones people make conversations with and try as much as you can to describe it exactly.

Sentence correction: I hurriedly locked the front door and slotted the keys into a small compartment in my black backpack. I headed for school which was only a few kilometers away with a light bounce in my steps. I walked taking in a lungful of the fresh morning air, appreciating the colourful birds that dotted the sky.

The sun peeping out from beneath the horizon, the hooting of car horns that blended well with the serene environment and the picturesque landscape.

Okay, I may or may not have gone off track there ( whatever). All I am saying is to try learning new words everyday and pay attention to the way different authors describe things for a start. It might just activate the inner skunk in you!

If you have read this jumbled piece of information this far, thank you and I hope you properly understood the message I was trying to pass across :-P
