After readers get captivated by your cover, they start reading your introduction. It has to actually attract them, you SHOULDN'T give too much details about your story, some writers put their entire plot into the description which would totally ruin the reading experience for readers.

You have to:

Put a part of a conversation between the heroes of your story, not a boring part though! It has to be attractive for the readers.

Romance/Teen fiction(romantic)/Fanfiction: You have to include a heated conversation between both hero and heroine, and a brief description of the story.

Action/thriller/adventure/horror/werewolf/vampire/Sci fic: You have to include a captivating scene which is incomplete, meaning readers have to read the rest of the scene to understand, a brief description is needed.

Mature content

DO NOT mark your story as mature unless, it does contain pure erotica or excessive swearing, writers think that marking your story as mature is just a label or sth. IT IS NOT. 

Marking your story as mature doesn't allow your story to appear to readers as suggestions, they have to search the EXACT book's name so that they would find it, which is a pretty hard thing to do, it just a wall between your book and readers.

Tags

First of all you have to add the right tags to your book so that people searching for these tags would find the book appealing, and the more you add tags the more it's easy to be found by people. But the tags have to be relevant

Cover

We are in a century where people judge a book by it's cover. You have to do some effort on the cover you just don't get a photo which the book's name is written in black bold font and set it as a cover that is too boring people!

And you don't set a photo from the 90's either, we are teenagers. We find that lame.
