I was watching The Hobbit again late last night, and there was the part with the riddles game.

Gollum: Oo we loves games doesn't we precious?!

Um, ok.

Gollum: Does it, does it like to play?

What?

Gollum: What has roots as nobody sees, is taller than trees, up, up it goes, and yet never grows?

Frodo: That's the mountain, everyone knows that Gollum.

Gollum: Ask us one!

Gollum I banished you from this book!

Merry: Um, no you didn't.

I didn't say it out loud, but the look on my face should've been very clear.

Gollum: Not very nice is they precious?

Go away!

Gollum: *leaves muttering about fish*

Anyways, after finishing the movie I decided to make my own riddles!

Sam: At what time at night was this?

About one in the morning.

Sam: Ah

I thought that they'd turn out horrible but I think that they're pretty good.

Pippin: Well, we'll be the judge of that, let's hear one of them.

*ignores the possible insult* Ok here's one:

I dance when it's windy,
Close when sky's gray,
But when it is sunny,
I come out to play.

Merry: That sounds like a five year old wrote that.

It was very late at night and I suck at rhyming! Just answer the riddle!

(I'm having space so you can comment what you think the answer is before it says it in the book :))

Pippin: It's a flower.

How did you guess that? Did you read my paper?

Pippin: No, I'm just really good at riddles.

Merry: *cough*yeahright*cough*

Pippin: I heard that.

Ok, whatever. Here's another one:

It's strong arms brush the sky,
It's feet burrow deep in the earth,
But when the wind blows by,
It moves not a hair's width.

Pippin: Idk

Merry: hahahaha!

Frodo: Um. . . .

Sam: It's a tree.

Yep, here's the next one:

It comes in the night, cold and encasing,
And every only erasing,
When dawn's gentle rays,
Break through night's haze.

Pippin: This one is actually good.

Frodo: I've no idea.

You just have to think about it. That's the cool thing about riddles, the answer is usually hidden in them. You just have to look for it.

Sam: Is it shade?

Close. . . .

Merry: Darkness!

Yep!

Frodo: Wait, wasn't there a riddle that Gollum used that the answer was darkness?

Yes, and mine is completely different, just ask Bilbo.

Pippin: Do you have any more?

I have one more. Personally I thought it was easy, but I tried it on a few people and none of them could guess it, so we'll see.

When small this is fun,
Calm and gentle, like the rays of the sun,
If fed it gets bigger,
Runs ramped with vigor,
Devours all in sight,
Can only get rid of with all of your might.

Pippin: Yeah I don't know this one either.

Merry: This ones tough.

Sam: Is it hunger? (People actually guessed this when I asked them XD)

No, why would you think that?

Frodo: It sounded like it could be you when you're hungry.

Oh shut up.

Merry: I give up.

Already?

Pippin: Me too.

Gollum would've already eaten you guys.

Frodo: Is it an animal of some sort?

No.

Sam: I give up.

Why?

Sam: because I don't know and my life doesn't depend on me getting the right answer.

Frodo: Yeah me too.

Ok, fine.

Pippin: What's the answer?

I'm not telling.

Merry: Why not?

I'm gonna let the readers try to guess. I'll say what the right answer is in the next chapter, and I'll say who got it right.

Pippin: If they get it right.

They probably will, it's not that good of a riddle.

Sam: Well it stumped us.

You didn't really want to guess it.

Frodo: Yeah, I guess you're right.
