30: There's Always a Key Under the Doormat
Your pov
Suddenly, my eyes opened wide as I sat up. I was on a pretty red bed with a fancy pattern all around it. A brown metal bed frame ran above the edges of the bed, transparent red curtains had been pulled open. The walls matched the bed spread as they were also red with a fancy pattern all over. Where am I?
Quietly, I stepped onto the lightly colored hardwood floor. Making my way to the door, it had been left open. Foolishly, I tip toed out, immediately being met with Roxanne.
"And where do you think you're going?" She asked, walking back towards the bedroom, and stoping in front of me, "Just cause I took a quick break doesn't mean you're allowed out." Her eyes went white, taking control of me.
Before she could do anything, I awoke once again. My breathing was heavy. Everything that had happened in my dream hit me, and I searched for some sort of weapon. Getting up, I quietly stepped around the room. There's nothing!
Finally, I gave up and just took the chair from the desk set next to what I could only assume to be the bathroom. Jars of eyeballs, fingers, and toenails sat at the edge of the desk, immediately making me feel sick. But I didn't have time for that, so I stood beside the door, awaiting Roxanne's arrival.
Gripping the chair tight, a dark haired woman walked through the door, and I hit her over the head. She fell to the floor. I dropped the chair and dashed out the door, not bothering to take a look around the place. Eventually, I found my way out and hid behind a tree.
"Jellybean? Oh, where have you gone?" She asked, stepping outside what I now realized to be Billie's warehouse.
My breathing was kept calm as she wandered around. As this went on, I hadn't even realized my fingers had wrapped around the little necklace Gerard had given me. I'll find him again... soon...
"Come out come out wherever you are, jellybean..." She snickered, "You can't hide forever..." I need to get out of here... soon...
"Jellybean..." Adjusting my footing position, I had foolishly stepped on a small twig. She began coming towards me, "Oh I know where you are!" Shit...
She got fairly close, but I took off. My feet didn't know where to go, but they knew it had to be away from her. Roxanne ran fast behind me, but I was faster.
Then somehow, I had ended up outside my house, quickly I dug for the keys under the welcome mat, unlocked the door, and shut it, seconds before she could get me. Happily, I sighed, pressing my back to the door, and sliding down it. Yes... I beat her... Gerard... I'm coming home...
"Um... hi?" Startled, I looked up from the floor. A man with brown eyes and shaggy brown hair stood there with a bowl of cereal in one hand and a spoon in the other.
"Oh shit, I don't live here anymore..." The man looked really confused.
"What are you doing in my house?" He asked.
"Hiding, from that thing," I pointed to the door, "You're gonna wanna close your blinds, if she sees you, she can possess you." His eyes went wide.
"And, who are you? Exactly?"
"Y/n, I lived here for awhile. Sorry, I didn't realize someone had moved in already."
"Well I mean, this place is super nice, and great price, too!"
"I know, right! I felt like I was being scammed or something." I stood up from the floor.
"Oh, I'm Ryan," He smiled.
"Cool..."
"Do you want something to eat? Or anything?"
"Um, if you don't mind."
"Not at all," We both walked into the kitchen, I sat at the little counter that went off the counter going all around the little kitchen. He went through a cabinet as I spun around in the little spiny chair.
"I'm assuming these were yours? I found them in the cabinet when I moved in." He slid me a box of cinnamon pop tarts. Everything in me just felt so much happier at the sight of them.
"Yes, they're mine. Thank you." Smiling, I opened one of the packages and began eating my favorite snack of all time.
"So, Y/n," He began, leaning on the counter I sat at, "How'd you end up getting chased by a body snatching vampire?"
"Well, Ryan, it's kinda a long story," I said, thinking back to everything that had happened in the past few months, "And I doubt you'll really approve of it all."
"Approve? How bad could it be?"
"If I tell you, promise me you won't freak out like everyone else."
"Fine, I promise."
"Okay, so my boyfriend's a vampire." I waited for him to say some sort of awful thing about that, but he didn't.
"Really? A vampire? That's cool. You're a half vampire, right? You just, you kinda got that look."
"Yeah, I am, but I was human when we met, and started dating."
"Very cool..."
"Wait, really? You don't mind?" He smiled.
"Why would I? It's your life, not mine."
"Thank you for saying that. Everyone I've ever talked to about this just yells at me."
"Anyways, back to your boyfriend."
"Oh, right, we met when I was riding my bike out really late. I used to go out and watch the sunset. Something happened, I think I ran into a bush or something like that. He offered to help me, I said no cause I was afraid."
"You were out past curfew? Isn't that, really dangerous?"
"Very dangerous, I got attacked by a werewolf the next night and Gerard saved me."
"Gerard is your boyfriend?" I nodded.
"Yeah, at the time I was still very scared of him. Even though he saved me. Oh, and then after he took me home I felt so terrible about the way I treated him. Me and my friend went out and bought a ton of surge for him, cause it's like a blood alternative for vampires. That was the night I met his friends, and slept in his arms."
Thinking back, my insides felt fuzzy and warm. My heart fluttered, a smile tugged at my lips, and I just felt happy.
"He makes me so happy..."
"Where's Gerard now?"
"Probably on his way to save me, at least, I hope."
"But how exactly did you get here?"
"Oh, I was abducted by a cannibal and Gerard's ex girlfriend."
"Geez..."
"That's like a normal week for me. Y'know just the other day there was a fight between them and Gerard here? Just right there..." I pointed to the spot.
"Really?" He got up and stood on the carpeted area that separated the kitchen from the living room, "There was a fight, right where I'm standing?"
"Yeah, I was knocked unconscious from being turned into a half vampire during it all, though."
"Who turned you?"
"Gerard's ex, she hates me. Also, the cannibal hates me. He used to be friends with Gerard, but now they're not."
"Damn, you really do gotta lotta shit." I giggled.
"Yeah, I guess I do." As I spoke, the morning sun rose and lit up the petite home.
"So, when do you think your boy's gonna be here?"
"Hopefully by tonight."
"Hopefully?" He asked, "Why hopefully?"
"Cause there's a good chance he's either fighting a cannibal, his ex, or some other evil being right now."
"Oh, okay, you can stay here if you'd like."
"You don't mind?"
"Not at all, it'll be nice to have someone around to talk to." I smiled.
"So Ryan, what about you?"
"What about me?"
"I told you my story, what's yours?"
"My story? I don't have a story."
"Everyone's got a story, what's yours?"
"Born and raised in California, moved here when I graduated high school. There really isn't much..."
"Really? You've gotta have something..."
"Oh I know, one time, this crazy lady came into my house and told me her little life story while eating pop tarts," I sent a look, "Good enough story for ya?"
"Crazy lady!? What's crazy about me?"
"Uhm, did you hear yourself talking just five minutes ago?"
"That wasn't my fault, though! Even if it was, I'm happy!"
"Were you not before?" It went silent for a moment as I thought.
"I mean... I was okay..." I took a bite of pop tart, "My life's become some sort of twisted fairytale, but all that shit is worth it," I looked up to the brown haired boy in front of me, "Have you ever been in love, Ryan?"
"Yeah... a few times..."
"So you know what it's like? That feeling?"
"What feeling?"
"The feeling you get when the person you love walks by. That tug at your heart strings. Oh, and how you just wanna be with them every second of the day, and you'd do anything just to be with them for just two more seconds because, they're worth it. Gerard's worth it."
"Geez..."
"What?"
"You've fallen hard."
"Is that a bad thing?"
"Doesn't have to be." I rested my arms down on the counter with my chin on top.
"He's just... so amazing. I can't help myself. Gerard, he's the love of my life. Everyone always makes these awful comments towards us, but I don't care. I wouldn't leave him for the world."
"Aww..." I smiled, "I've been in love before, but I don't think I've ever fallen that hard."
"Really?"
"Surprised?"
"Yeah, I dunno, you just seem like a really good guy. I'm sure it'll happen one day."
"Think so?"
"I know so..."
"Well I mean, I'll probably be moving again sometime soon. There's this house for sale back home. My friend Dan sells houses, I've been talking to him about the house for awhile. He says it's haunted, but I don't believe him."
"Haunted? Weird..."
"Yeah, I'm probably not gonna leave for awhile longer though. It's nice here."
"Definitely..." this guy is really nice... I hope Gerard gets here soon... I miss him... my dewdrop... he's probably worried sick... poor boy...
