Plot
Definition: the main events of a play, novel, movie, or similar work, devised and presented by the writer as an interrelated sequence.
Sometimes, many people and I have the tendancy to write a story without a plot in mind.
More like, "let's make a story with this beginning and change it up if it feels too boring" type of thing.
To my opinion, and probably many others,
Having a plot is the most needed to make a goody story. It pretty much is the skeleton to your story.
What helps you make your story stable.
An idea for the plot is to write it down on paper or in your notebooks.
Here is an example without a plot.
"Let's make a story about love"
Person 1 walks up to person 2 and automatically kisses them, person 2 automatically kissing them back. Soon, a dragon appears and the couple fights it off and wins!
That is a story without a plot, before I get to the example with the plot, I would like to point out a few things.
1. Person 1 just walks up to person 2 and kisses them.
It's a bit cliché if you think about it, when things jump to kissing. Why not describe Person 1's feelings and how it would actually happen if it was real, think of it as a way the real world now would work if Person 1 did this in the real world.
Before any comments about
"But what if it's fantasy?"
"What happens if we like to write this way?"
"Are you saying that we are bad writers?"
Ok, yes, it could be any genre, like fantasy, if you would like.
If you write that way, it's completely fine, I'm here to help the fellow writers try to up their game if they wish with a few tips.
Definitely not, everyone has a certain way of writing like I do. Some people use big words, some use simple words to get to the point, some use excessive amount of description, some are still trying (like me). Not everyone is perfect, and that's the good thing. It would be boring read stories that are all the same and never exciting, kind of like reading a dictionary to my opinion, you read and figure out new words, since that is exactly what a dictionary is for, but it just gives words! Nothing exciting about dictionaries. Do you agree?
Back to my example story,
2.Already skipping the rising action, or part that gets the story to rise to the suspenceful part.
There was no detail in how that dragon arrived, nor how did the couple defeat it. Yes, you are a type of person that wants to get to the point and hate writing forever, but if you think about it, it is actually very helpful to other readers to imagine inside their heads on what's going on in the story. How does the couple win? Do they slay it? Capture it? What?
Now that this story without a plot is out of the way, lets see what happens when people use plot.
"Ok, a romance story, lets start off with Person 1 talking to Person 2 and confessing their love for them, the other one agrees and they kiss, then the ground begins to rumble and they stop and see a portal open up, a green dragon appears and they hold hands, fighting the dragon until its very last breath."
Person 1 slowly walks up to Person 2, watching the stars as the night passes.
"Person 2?" Person 1 asks, rubbing his right arm slowly and looking down.
"Yes?"
"Can we talk?"
"Sure!" Person 2 scoots over and Person 1 sits besides them
"I'm not going to try and sound like a creep, but I like you." Person 2 looks at Person 1, smiling and blushing.
"I do too." Then they both leaned in and kissed.
The ground began to rumble, and they stop, looking up at the sky as a green dragon with white whiskers and eyes appeared. They stood up and looked at eachother, holding hands tightly as they summoned swords. The dragon quickly sped to them and both of them combined their swords together, making a Mega sword. Both of them swung and cut the dragon in half, defeating it.
It's not that good, but it gets the point.
If you have a plot planned out, you will be able to find more ideas and be prepared for your chapter.
The main reason for this is to plan out what you are going to write before you actually do.
Sometimes, music can give you ideas, inspirate you, like me and other people.
We may not be the same, but we do not judge what you write. Yea, some people are a critic, but, as long as you love it, you write it.
Until the next tip! I really hope that this helped!
