Valentine's Day
It was Valentine's Day. The Oxford's cold breeze made it's away around the campus , playing with the red and white balloons and swaying the dazzling streamers.
Shravan Malhotra walked around in his black coat checking all the preparations for the official Valentine's party to be held.
Being the secretary of the cultural club wasn't easy. More responsibilities piled up on his shoulder , but he never complained. What's life without a little stress ?
Moreover organising events sharpened his management and communication skills.
It was his final year in Oxford. The University and it's occupants had helped him to evolve into a completely new individual. The love and honour he received from his batchmates and juniors overruled the homesickness. He wanted to give a perfect Valentine's party to Oxford. He wanted to celebrate his love for this place and it's people.
After instructing his teammates , Shravan fastened his steps towards the dorm to change into his outfit for the party.
The campus was bustling with students in red and black.
The official welcome speech was followed by a melodious song.
' Ladies and gentlemen , hereby I pass on the mic to the Cultural Secretary , everyone's favourite
Mr. Shravan Malhotra. ' The Emcee announced while the crowd clapped and hooted loudly welcoming their favourite batchmate or senior.
Shravan walked up to the stage dressed in a black tuxedo looking like a model right out of page 3.
Grabbing the mic , Shravan greeted everyone and finally arrived at the speech of the day.
' Love isn't all pleasant. It's like carbon , sometimes it's bright and vibrant like diamonds and other times it's too dark like graphite. But both sneak their ways into our life. Diamond adorns the pendant tied around the neck of our beloved while graphite transforms into the pencil which writes the story of our heartbreak.
There comes a time in our life when we fall in love with someone , who we have no chance with. We do our best to make that person feel the same way about us , but nothing works.
It's true that relationships or friendships which are made forcefully always break in the end and that thing hurts even more.
But , we still keep trying , and the thing is we can't even blame the other person because it's aren't there fault that they aren't feeling that way.
If we can't blame them , we can't hate them. So we keep falling in love with them , more than ever.
And that is one-sided love. It hurts but it is a beautiful feeling , isn't it ?
We watch the person silently , we keep thinking how beautiful they are and we don't expect them to do anything for us.
Unrequited love is the most selfless thing. We know that person doesn’t love us back, yet, we keep loving them. We fall in love with them every day. Their happiness is the only thing that matters to us and we’re not scared of the future at all. We give our everything to them and in return, we don’t expect anything but memories. It hurts but it also makes us feel good because that one person means the world to us.
We’ve given our everything to that person and all we have is beautiful memories which we’ll keep reminiscing till our last breath.
Eventually, we’ve to leave them but the pain that we have stays forever. We’ve done our best to make their life vibrant. We were sandalwood and we left our fragrance as a souvenir for them.
We are sad because of the separation but it doesn’t matter as we want to bless them with everything we can offer.
For we only learn to be brave in love , once we have lost at the hands of it.
So today , let's celebrate all forms of love , one-sided , two-sided or no - sided. '
Shravan left the stage with a beautiful smile yet his eyes spoke an untold story.
' Shravan ! ' Amy , walked towards him , amicably dressed in a scarlet gown. Shravan had carefully dodged all her advances in the past two years.
Her feelings were known by all and their mutual friends were so sure , they would end up together someday. But Shravan knew , they wouldn't and giving false hopes was never his forte.
' Shravan , was the speech directed towards me ? ' Amy asked , looking up at him with moist eyes.
Shaking his head, with a smile he replied , ' No , absolutely not ! '
Amy's face lit up hearing him. Gathering her courage she said ,
' Shravan , can we ummm... be together ? '
Her nervous demeanor made him chuckle. Looking into her eyes he again replied with a no .
' Why ? ' , her voice wavered a bit.
' Cause I'm still in love with someone , who I have no chance with ! '
Another heart was broken in the day of love..........
Shravan walked passed her and strolled towards his dorm. The party had come out just the way he wanted it to be and he couldn't be more satisfied today.
Entering his room , he discarded the blazer and made his way towards the bookshelf. His fingers found the special letter hiding inbetween the pages of his crossword dictionary.
Re-reading it for the nth time , he asked himself , ' Was it love ? '
' It is love ! ' His heart replied.
Miles away , Suman caressed their last picture together , clicked at the fair. He looked beyond happy. His favourite glasses perched on his nose , with a beautiful smile on his lips and his hand placed around her shoulder.
She closed her eyes , feeling the cold breeze. Missing him was just a veil over a deeper feeling , the feeling of love. How could she deny it anymore ?
In the heart of a girl , the rarest flowers bloom when she falls in love , as if being born again , mellifluously and compassionately.
Suman was re-born.
The heart is a foolish entity. It desires to grab love when you don't have any capacity for it.
And on Valentine's Day , love was breathing anew amidst the old forgotten places of his heart , love was at her doorstep with it's open arms to gather her in a homelike embrace.
Hey guys , I am back with a different version of Valentine's Day. Hope u guys liked it.
