The story of Peter Pan is famous for alluring young children with its tales of action, adventure, and eternal youth. But alas, like all stories that have been around as long as Peter Pan, it has been skewed from its original path and is now far from the truth. While the story that we read in children's books and see in movies is beautifully foretold, few of its details are true. Perhaps if you look at it from a certain perspective, a perspective that did not have all of the facts, the story of Peter Pan is true as told. But I will tell the entire story from the beginning or as far back as my memory will take me at least.
I am called Orlandothu. My wife Polantadi and I are the oldest and wisest of the elder fairies and are in charge of keeping the histories of Neverland. The famous story tells of a brave young boy named Peter Pan who fights pirates with his band of rowdy lost boys. It goes on to tell of a responsible young girl named Wendy and her two brothers who are flown to Neverland with the help of Peter and his bag of fairy dust. Every child that hears the story is wrapped up in the love shared by Peter and Wendy and slightly saddened by the fact that they could not stay together forever. This story, although beautiful, is a sad mangling of the facts. The truth is this. The story of Peter Pan starts back before peter was ever born; it starts with the birth of a fairy. A fairy that will forever be linked with the name of Peter Pan in the Neverland histories. It starts with Tinkerbell.
