Chapter 35: Punishment of Punishments

Queen Esmintu was the most shocked.

"Banishment! Oh it's too harsh Fin!" Exclaimed the queen.

"It's the law, Freya." Replied Solverfin. Who was Freya? Tinkerbell had never heard that name before. "As for the human children, they will be taken care of as it should have been in the beginning, by the pirates."

"NO!" Screamed Tinkerbell. "You claim to be just and practical dispensers of justice yet you would sentence these poor children to death at the hands of Hook and his men! I won't let you do it!"

"Oh Freya, what have you been teaching these young fairies?" Solverfin said with a pompous smirk toward Queen Esmintu. "Look at her. She thinks she knows it all but she knows nothing."

He turned back to face Tinkerbell. "We don't condone violence here. That's a human trait. It's one you should be fairly familiar with considering the company that you keep."

He gave a side eyed glance toward Peter Pan. "Learn something about your own people, will you.The Pirates will simply return the children to the Kingdom in accordance with the ancient decrees of the Tree of Li..."

Solverfin froze, staring at the tree, or more specifically at the burns that marred the tree. As if they all had one shared mind, the other 19 solvers turned sharply in the direction of Solverfin's gaze. The other solvers removed their hoods in unison, revealing their unique yet similarly pale faces. They flew all at once to encompass the circumference of the Tree of Life.

"It is scarred." Spoke one of the solvers in a similar monotone voice to that of solverfin.

"How did this happen?" Spoke another solver.

"Why did this happen?" Spoke one more.

"Tinkerbell did this!" They started to speak quicker and quicker.

"We fairies hold the tree sacred."

"Is Tinkerbell even a fairy?"

"She took 9 months to be born."

"She lives and cavorts with humans."

"She loves humans."

"She protects humans."

"But she endangers the tree..."

"Which in turn endangers us."

"She is not a fairy."

"She is a MONSTER!" All twenty solvers said in unison. Their statement was punctuated by a clap of rolling thunder. It was such a loud sound that it caused many of the fairies to scatter and a few to pass out.

Tinkerbell looked up at the sky but did not see what she was expecting. The sky above her had transformed into swirls of starkly contrasting colors. She looked toward the ground to see if anyone else noticed the change in the sky.

The ground, however, had also changed. It was blurry, and starting to dissipate. She could just make out the outline of the children being carried off by larger figures. With all her might, she tried to fly down to them, but her body wouldn't budge. It was as if she were trapped in an overbearingly strong current.

"You never fit in here. Neverland is not the right place for you. Do not come back!" Solverfin's voice was clear in Tinkerbell's mind even though her surroundings were disappearing before her eyes. This couldn't be the end. Tinkerbell hadn't gotten to say goodbye to any of her friends. She wasn't even able to see Tinkerelias's face. It felt like forever since she had seen him.

This wasn't how she thought things would end. Of course she knew that the solvers would eventually catch up to her and dole out their punishment. She had expected it. But, she didn't think it would go so fast. She had imagined delivering multiple heartfelt goodbyes to those closest to her.

As the current picked up and the swirling colors started to stretch before her eyes, Tinkerbell realized that her last memories of Neverland would be traumatizing and without Tinkerelias. It was devastating.
