Chapter 30: The Wendy of It All
An earsplitting roar ripped through Tinkerbell's head and a blinding light from nowhere attacked her eyes. She was left sightless and deaf for what seemed like an eternity. Not only were her senses mangled but she was disoriented. She could feel herself wobbling around the windowsill like a drunkard.
Tinkerbell held her arms out for stability and hoped that Peter Pan would catch her. What she found, instead of her redheaded companion, was a soft, sturdy wall. With her body resting on the warm wall, Tinkerbell's ailing senses were able to recuperate. Finally her eyes adjusted to the bright light and what she saw before her almost made her wish she were blind again.
What she saw before her, previously thought to be a soft wall, was a large furry beast. It was slobbery and barky with its overwhelming drool flooding Tinkerbell's feet. She let out a large groan as she tried to step out of the ever growing sea of spit. The dog just stared at Tinkerbell with its tongue hanging out. It had an extremely pink bonnet on its head and Tinkerbell couldn't understand why.
"Nana, get away from the window. You will fall." Said a drowsy voice from inside the room. It was a young boy's voice. Tinkerbell could tell. She had encountered more than her fair share of young boys recently. Upon hearing the command from the meek voice, the dog ran off and jumped onto a small bed where the tiniest child was waiting for it with open arms. The boy giggled as the dog licked his face.
While maneuvering around the large pool of slobber that was left behind, Tinkerbell saw a much more horrendous sight. In the now well lit room there were three beds: the first was small, containing the small boy and large dog; next was a medium sized bed in which sat a medium sized boy wearing a top hat and monocle; lastly came the terrifying sight of Peter Pan kneeling on the largest bed which was already occupied by a young girl. She didn't seem afraid of the strange boy in her bed, just amused.
"Get down!" Tinkerbell yelled as she flew over to Peter Pan.
"I'm Peter Pan!" He said, extending his hand to the girl. She had dark brown hair that just brushed her shoulders and eyes that were equally as dark. She was the kind of pretty that made older women hate young ones. It was a pristine beauty that came from hardly ever being exposed to the world. Tinkerbell was older than her, and indeed she disliked her.
"Wendy Darling." Spoke the annoyingly pretty girl. She had an accent that Tinkerbell had never heard before. It was different from the way Peter Pan spoke, but the same as the young boy who called the dog.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you not to talk to strangers?" Tinkerbell asked.
"Want to go to a place where no one ever grows up?" Asked Peter Pan.
"What!?" Screamed Tinkerbell.
"Yes!" Replied Wendy.
"Me too!" Said the one in the top hat.
"Don't forget me!" Added the little one.
"No, no, no!" Exclaimed Tinkerbell, but no one listened. The three children jumped out of their beds and Peter Pan was already throwing fairy dust at them. Wendy introduced the two boys as her brothers. The one in the top hat and monocle was named John. As soon as he was introduced, John stated that he would grow up to be a professor like his father one day. That explained the hat and monocle. The youngest one was Michael Darling. He held a teddy bear, wore pink footy pajamas, and seemed to be in a perpetual state of sleepiness. He must have yawned at least fifteen times between agreeing to go to Neverland and being taught to fly by Peter Pan.
Tinkerbell didn't care about the introductions. She was much more concerned about the absurd situation. Not two seconds ago, Peter Pan was cowering away from a group of adults after taking a lost boy who wasn't quite lost and now he was doing it again! Was he this hard headed or just this forgetful? Her thoughts were halted there as the Darlings and Peter Pan floated out of the window. Tinkerbell caught up with Peter Pan and landed on his left shoulder.
"Are you crazy!? We just returned a wrongly taken boy and now you're taking three more!" tinkerbell screamed into Peter Pan's ear.
"I know, I remember. But they're special." Peter Pan replied.
"What makes them so special?" Tinkerbell was the most frustrated she had ever been.
"She's so pretty. When I look at her my tummy gets all fuzzy inside." Said Peter Pan. Tinkerbell wasn't sure if he was answering her question or simply stating facts. Either way she felt like Wendy Darling was the most hateful girl in the world.
